- The legendary fighters in the upcoming THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV will be making their stateside debut thanks to a partnership between SNK PLAYMORE and Atlus U.S.A. The vaunted fighting game series, which first made its debut 1994, is entering a new evolution with THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV thanks to series-first 3D graphics and debuting exclusively on the PlayStation 4 console. THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV will arrive to consoles later in 2016.
THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV Feature Details:
• 3D Evolution: All 50 fighters, movesets and more are rendered in full 3D graphics that preserves the essence of KOF's visual style but updates it with a whole new dimension.
• The Best Refinement since KOF '98: Through extensive playtesting and balancing, the controls have been streamlined, and the Combo and Max Mode mechanics have been overhauled to create the most competitive fighter in SNK's history.
• The KOF Saga Continues: There's a robust single-player storyline where several years have passed since the previous KOF tournament. Now a worldwide business, the global KOF will decide who is the strongest as both individuals and companies with their own ambitions have come to compete. Players compete against CPU-controlled opponents to unlock the storyline.
• The Best Roster Yet: There are 50 fighters total, with 31 returning from previous entries into the KOF series, and 19 brand new characters. All 50 characters will be available at the game's launch.
• Revamped Online Experience: THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIVhas devoted a lot of development time to improving the game's netcode for vastly improved online gameplay. KOF XIV uses the PS4's online architecture to have a whole host of online conveniences, from spectating to saving replay/battle data, and having a single online KOF XIV profile to connect with friends.

I have to admit, I'm mostly interested in Hein just because I tend to like characters who dress in formalwear. Maybe I'm weird for being drawn to the character for that reason.

It's quite something to see the changes in character design over the years. See how badass and awesome Geese looks compared to the overly wacky and awful new characters they've introduced in this entry of the series. The classic characters have grit and balls. These new ones are just a joke.
I don't agree, I like all of the new characters except Sylvie, and think some of the older ones are aging poorly. Geese, however, is timelessly badass.
I wouldn't be against SNK making a fighter that's all gritty, serious designs. That might be a good idea for an Art of Fighting reboot. But KoF has had wacky characters from the start. It's always been like a festival of characters from different types of games thrown together.
You make a really good point. This probably isn't the right franchise to try and stay 100% gritty. A sequel or reboot to Fatal Fury, Mark of the Wolves 2, or Art of Fighting like you mentioned could work better.
+VideoGameVictims MOTW was more serious and melancholic than regular FF games, so its sequel could amp up the grit even more.
That's because someone like Geese belong to 90', it's modern day now so SNK need to make character that to appeal to younger audience. If you ask me for a 50 characters cast with nothing but serious chars, it'd SUCK and boring. I want some people to feel like their fashion and style is as old as I am, and I want other characters to feel like they jump head-first into new trends, without batting an eye. XIV is exactly that, it's a mix of old vs new, classic vs modern trope and someone like Geese is appreciated more and feel special because SNK didn't try to "clone" him for another with same personality, after all, there can only be one Geese.

There won't be an Xbox One version, & a PC port likely won't happen for a while.

black ryu Ask SNK. My guess is that most of the FGC is on PS4. Couple that with the Xbox One's abysmal performance in Japan, SNK likely didn't want to bother with the XB1. I do think we'll get a PC port, however, but it'll take a while.
At the end of day its a business they aren't going to bring it to a system on the "hopes" it will make a profit you can keep begging but owning an Xbox for fighting games your getting the short end of the stick.

Geese's gameplay is emphasized on defensive moves. They'll add "Deadly Rave" on his son instead, if MotW 2 would be in development.

I don't think Geese needs to be nerfed since he didn't turn into a real menace to the rest of the characters in the KOF saga (with the exception of KOF 2002 UM) including this one.

Just me or is it looking better than it did in original videos and screenshots? And I don't remember seeing Atlus attached to it from the beginning. Did they get brought in as publisher mid-development and if so is that the reason for the perceived improvement in graphics? Or were they already on track to make those changes or even still, has Atlus been the publisher since the whole thing began and I just never took notice? Because I could swear I thought this was all SNK Playmore at first.
Atlus is just the publisher in NA, but they have no effect on development. Also, SNK Playmore changed their name and logo to just SNK a while back.

Huh so this is where Shibasaki is on his off days of being a butler for Karin Kanzuki, kicking ass in the King of Fighters Tournament. I knew the guy had fighting potential, he just had no reason to fight in SF since that would be betraying his regular job duties ;) But no seriously Hein really reminds me of Shibasaki, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if they were twins.

I don't care much about Billy, Hein kinda reminded me to Heidern sometimes and Geese is looking really good, it's a shame that they turned his Raging Storm into a Climax Move.
The motion is easier now (qcbhcf+AC instead of the pretzel), so they probably didn't want it to be used like Athena's Shining Crystal Bit. If it were more readily available, it would have to be toned down due to how effective it would be as an anti-air, and they don't want that for Geese's most well-known move.

Lol Hein is the only one member who speak Japanese while Geese and Billy speak English.
Rugal, Rugal's kids, the Meiras and Luise share the same problem, but who really gives a darn if SNK (Shin Nihon Kikaku) can't hire VAs who can speak German.
Roy Asturias Well yeah since this is a Japanese game so they can't find a Japanese voice actor who can speak German, but hey at least they can choose the English for voice Hein lol. Well I don't care if the characters is speak Japanese or English in a games after all.
