I LOVE my Alembics. Definitely not for everyone, but when they shine, they SHINE !! The tone is unlike any other bass EVER made. The playability, everything. It's the Rolls Royce of basses.
Hello Johnny! What you have there is an Alembic Excel bass. It has controls for Vol, Blend, Bass & Treble. The Bridge pickup is a "Fatboy" pickup that has a stacked coil and a larger magnet, resulting in twice the aperture of the neck position pickup.BTW - There are no humbucking pickups made by Alembic. The neck position pickup is an "MXY" pickup, also hum cancelling via a stacked coil. Alembic pickups require an active circuit due to the amount of windings on the pickups - very low windings which results in low output, BUT, the broadest reception of tone from the lowest lows to the highest highs. Thus the sound of the bass. The hardware, the woods, the build qualitiy all contribute to the end result. Do some string bends on the Excel. Then do some on any other bass. Alembics TRULY report your input!!! Thus, to me the best bass money can buy. Keep up the fantastic work.
When I bought my Alembic Europe 4 string I thought to myself: I will never need another 4 string bass. Still true after 15 years. I don't have the money to buy another one thou...
I had a buddy who owned the other (popular) kind of Alembic. It's like you said; 'if this is what you are into, then you are into this'. SAMICK, IBANEZ, SCHECTER, AND ERNIE BALL are what I am into. That Alembic almost sounds like my TABU Bass.
I own the Alembic Excel and it is THE best bass I've ever owned, and I own Peavey Cirrus, Yamaha MIJ 1980's, and other Alembics. The Excel is a Peavey Cirrus bolt on but better. For those of you that think I'm nuts, there are those of you that know exactly what I mean.
Any Alembic player I have ever seen has only one bass on stage, the Alembic in their hands that they are playing. All you NEED is one Alembic, they are as good as it gets.

When you really get going on it, it sounds as if it is a bass inside another bass! Pretty magical!

Haha....I understand exactly what you mean, the same here
Hahaha, I Know the Feeling, I'm Glad I got my Jazz and Music Man Before I got my Alembic or I'd only have One Bass Also.
Right on....! I have three Alembic.. 93 Essence 5str, 74 series 1 fretted and a 77 series 1 fretless..all three individually unique ......!
Beautiful Bass. Through and through.

This Bass becomes you and you it, friends to see the voyage together , Hootie where you at
That open E sounds great. Clean, plenty of fundamental and punch, clarity but no shrill high end at all. very nice.
Whew! That setup is amazing and Drew and Andrew's equipment does help, but, the bite on that Alembic is truly a major hit when it comes to bass! Wow!

I've seen Jimmy Johnson play his Alembic 5 string a few times, it's the only bass he has on stage.
Record with Alembic, you can't go wrong!
