Glad to hear Valerie certify the greatness of Diana's version. Is it truly a masterpiece. Not to take nothing from Marvin & Tammi's duet which is an all time great duet. But Diana's version has more depth and orchestration. To hear it from one of the creators it's one of her proudest productions...enough said.

I must say, the background singing on this song was phenomenal. Some of the best background vocals ever. This song is almost perfect. Diana Ross was WOW!

I heard this song downtown coming out of someone’s car, as soon as I got home I searched for it, I knew it was Diana, that voice, her signature sound, and the way the song is formatted gave me something that Marvin and Tammi’s never did although I still adore their version and it was what made me fall in love with the song in the first place.

Same with me, I heard this song driving back from the beach summer of 1970 riding in my boyfriend's 65 convertible suicide doors Lincoln Continental with some other friends and I stopped talking because I recognized her voice, made everybody else be quite, and next day I was at the record store looking for that 45,, I was 16,, to this day, one of my all time favorite Diana Ross songs 🎵

☺ Ashford & Simpson and Marvin Gaye trumped Berry Gordy under the ground. LOL
Ain't No Mountain High Enough and What's Going On are the best pieces of work with the Motown name on it! Period. Two great sounds that defined the sixties transition into the seventies.

Ive heard all the other versions....all of them. And I sing along and reminisce to a point with those versions, because at the very least, the lyrics make all the different versions relatively credible. But Diana's original???...its like fire, shot up in my bones. Whenever I hear it, I have to be very careful with my emotions and how much of them I let loose, because it was the song that was played at my folk's wedding. My Dad died in 2015..and me and Mom, do not speak anymore, even tho' I value what she contributed to my life, before I came ALL THE WAY OUT, as a gay man.
So "Aint No Mountain.." takes me back to a time when I really liked looking thru my old photo album..and all the pics that were handed down to me, from relatives. And many (or most) of those pics are from the 60s & 70s, when this song became embedded in every aspect of American society. This song is "Americana"...and its a very nostalgic tune, too.

Valerie Simpson recorded some demos of the sons she wrote for Diana Ross. With all due respect for Diana Ross, I think Valerie sang those songs better. I love Valerie’s voice no matter what she is singing. She is such a humble class act with so much talent. I play her interviews over a lot.
