Johnny Hallyday was practically unknown here in America(USA). He would ride his bikes(motorcycles), go shopping, drive hot rods in California or Florida and didn't worry about being chased by CRAZED fans(like me). My favorite song by him is "Souvenirs, Souvenirs"(1960). RIP mon Johnny/Rest in Peace pal. Salut du Virgnia Beach, Virginia, les USA, grand frère.

He was much more than the french Elvis. Actually is music style was far from Elvis those 40 past years. He had Also a great , Beautiful voice, He was an incredible showman. Over the years all the best french songs writers worked for him. So he always had beautiful songs to sing in différents style during 55 years. Of course is a legend. Such a nice guy.
Les médias anglophones n'ont été pas été très objectifs et même assez dégueulasses dans la façon de présenter Johnny Hallyday. A leur décharge il y a le fait qu'ils ne le connaissaient pas trop. The independent met en avant le fait qu'il était tatoué et drogué, alcoolique histoire de ressembler à Keith Richards, même pour ce qui est des vices il faut qu'ils comparent avec leurs propres références ! autrement dit en plus d'avoir des vices Johnny Hallyday était un rigolo qui se prenait pour un mec de chez nous ! Le comparer systématiquement à Elvis est ridicule, certes à ses débuts et même après Elvis a était son modèle et sans lui Jean-Philippe ne serait pas devenu Johnny, mais on voudrait nous faire croire que pendant près 60 ans le mec s'est pris pour une sorte d' Elvis, ce qui est complètement débile. Aucune mention de ses chansons sur The independent, ah si on évoque le fait qu'il a repris des standards américains, mais Johnny Hallyday c'est 1000 chansons et une majorité écrites par des auteurs et compositeurs français.

Johnny who? This is what all the world is asking. Hallyday was the greatest rock singer the world has never known. He was the most well known French singer but never made it abroad. Passing much of his career translating American songs into French did not help either, and it is a pity since he was more than that, he had a terrific voice and some very powerful songs of his own like "quoi ma guelle"
