The Philippines' relationship with China is like your rich neighbor who is trying to build a fence in your backyard and take over a portion of your property and claim it as theirs even if it is not. If that's the case, how can you even have a good relationship with that neighbor?

Deterrence is the right word. If an aggressor nation knows you are prepared militarily, then they should think twice, much more if you have the support of the strongest military in the world. But Philippines should expect US to rescue Philippines in eventual war on the same thing with US to the Philippines.

Presidential BBM did the smartest thing in seeking help with allies like US. Let’s face it Philippines military of defense cannot stand alone without any support from other countries like US. China doesn’t recognized the international laws period. Just like any other socialist and communist country as we know of they don’t negotiate they only take. Power is the only thing they know about. When the country is weak there’s no chance to stand against it. Everyone’s love independence but sometimes freedom comes with a price! In times like this we need to reunite and set aside pride, personal opinion and beliefs and differences and to reconsider that having allies and countries that are willing to fight side by side is better than fighting the giant alone. And sometimes we just have to see things for the way it is. If that requires to leave your own country and family to defend yours or join other countries then it’s the hardest decision one can ever make …
