Thank you for putting this up - really helped me get going on some non-insulated terminals

Please remember to *explain the shape and function of the tool*, especially considering all the other videos that don't. Especially for something like this, it's hard to get a close up view to realize that each of those holes have two different sized openings. Not all crimping pliers have that, and there may be labels for metric on the small side and awg on the large, which is super confusing for anyone who is doing this for the first time. This is speaking from experience. I ended up misusing the tool because no one mentioned that the dies would be shaped like that, and my first crimps ended up looking like it was done by someone's teeth.

you left out a pretty critical step. the orientation of the terminal in the crimper actually matters. if you look at the crimping die, you will see its has two sides. one side will crimp the tabs tighter in and the other side will not crimp as hard. the tabs that grab the insulation are meant to go on the bigger part of the die. if you crimp the terminal backwards it will either not close all the way, or it will super crus the piss out of the insulation and not crimp the exposed wire enough or both. you also left out that you want to strip 1/4 inch of the insulation way before crimping, which will leave just the right amount of insulation for the lower tabs to grab and wire for the upper tabs to grab. you also left out that you need to inspect the terminal after crimping. are BOTH tabs on BOTH sets of tabs curled in nicely? if any one of the tabs went the wrong way or was smashed completely flat, toss it. did the insulation get ripped or not grabbed? if so, toss it. are the tabs that grab the wire fully grabbing the wire or are is there some space around the wires for them to wiggle? if there is wiggle room, you have the wrong sized terminal (too big). if the tabs couldn't full wrap into the wire then the terminal was too small. also you need to give the terminal a good tug to make sure it just doesn't immediately fail. and lastly, you can feed solder into a crimped terminal to make it super strong and a good solid connection

Thank you for adding this useful knowledge! I’m just learning about open barrel connectors and this should save me from a lot of errors

I was thinking just that, he said the obvious part with no other helpful information. Thank you for filling in.

A quick discussion of the tension adjustment would be useful. Otherwise, good demonstration
