BOTH SIDES of the MARIJUANA coin
Marijuana or marijuana is a drug produced from the Cannabis sativa plant. The psychoactive substance present in marijuana and hashish is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC can be consumed through smoking, inhalation, orally or even intravenously. The bioavailability of THC when smoked is around 20%, that is, if each marijuana cigarette has around 30mg of THC, only around 6mg will be absorbed.
In addition to marijuana, there are two other common ways of processing cannabis: hashish, which is also smoked and has higher concentrations of THC, and Hashoil or cannabis oil, which is the liquid and most potent form of the drug.
    Is marijuana addictive?
The term dependence in psychiatry is applied when:
-There is repeated consumption of a substance even though it is known that it is ----bringing physical or psychological consequences.
-An individual consumes large amounts of a substance over long periods of time.
-When the user has difficulty reducing the amount or frequency of consumption of this substance.
-Tolerance to the active ingredient begins to emerge, requiring higher doses to achieve the desired effects.
-The user spends much of the day trying to obtain the drug, using it, and/or recovering from its effects.
-Leisure and physical activity time is replaced by drug use time.
-The patient experiences physical or psychological symptoms if they do not use the drug for a long time.
-Contrary to what some currents say, yes, marijuana can be addictive. About 30% of people who try the drug become regular users and 10% become addicted.
Therefore, 1 in 10 users will become dependent, a rate similar to what happens with alcohol, but much lower than with cigarettes.
