Unfortunately it depends. If you live in the rust belt, you can expect broken/seized bolts, so it may take 1-2 days if you don't have experience with that. If you do and have all the right tools, probably no more than 3 hours.
I big cat killer on these Subarus is when the head gaskets blow, which they will if you have the crappy single layer head gaskets (almost every EJ-25 except turbos). They need to be replaced before about 100K miles or you'll end up with coolant and/or oil in your cat$$.
Yo I have a 2001 forester and I have the same issue. Just started sounding even worse today!! Which one would you recommend getting from rock auto now seeing as the Bosal isn’t available from them anymore. Thanks mate
I just picked the cheapest one I could find tbh. I'm sure the cheaper you go the less effective it gets, but hard to justify big price tag for old cars. Just look at the photo, and compare it to what's actually bolted to your car. Also -- consider taking your old catalytic converter to a scrap yard, OEM stuff can be worth $100-300. www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=12522449&cc=1368727&pt=5808&jsn=822&_nck=Ekt6BqBF1pwlXdx0gYlm1esw98pF26vehMm%2FGG3C%2Fl2QOXSJubi7WSpUmUSdg3OxWOs2f5z9h422EONy36O0PjCuaadDqI1r86y%2FvJ1lBqy8eOR0sg7BszdZN4sjtsowg31%2Fygv61Xs98S2UdQ37qdUJn6fFWl7zR1w2ckD%2Fqt%2BHTEXGsdHf6S1wHLzeI%2BZZ%2FQavk%2Fj20lWLNjn7zjAO%2Bt9MvSVFZXwaHCjwkSiAknwCIfrCMRBVvZ8TBzSBkpSO%2FRd6KGS0QwBUQni9T5NIgZc0ZOZqFmmS5oqvW%2FqCwesZ6Ezr0qVC7oru86g1yzWftXqY2FwC%2FZrxEPidJCUNUSYTDZz4zpjtslq9s%2Fs%2FaIM%2FbFQnpiCaA%2B6wwipQLd2TwNirYu0C6vXwWzi3%2B5tgCA%3D%3D
Hey man. Awesome vid. I might do this with my 11' because of same issues. However would I just be able to replace it with a straight pipe? Since there is still a cat in the front. Also wondering if that would increase performance. I should also mention that my forester is a PZEV model so it has that emissions stuff.
Yes and no -- you can personally do whatever you want, that's what a lot of folks do to increase the performance (although you'd probably need to pair it with a bigger intake and maybe even a tune). But usually it's not legal either -- you probably won't pass emissions/inspection without a catalytic converter.
Not sure what you're asking. Depending on how bad it's clogged, you'll feel some to no exhaust. Though if it's the latter, your engine probably won't run at all.
Really helpful video! The diagnosis part at the end is pure gold. Thank you.
Hello, i have water out of exaust, is there any other place posible besides head gasket?
Thank you
Glad to see the conclusion here
Same, it lost power so slowly over time I never noticed. Now it feels like a racecar to me!
@@Bootstrappin I bet. You earned it - I’m sure countless hours were spent researching
About how long did it take for the entire process? About to do the same to my '01.

What if you completely delete the cat. A local engineer told me that this engine ej20 gains about 10hp
You can (and probably will gain that hp), but many states require them to pass emissions

I need a primary one! Help! Exact same year
It's built into the exhaust manifold. You'll have to double check the fit, but this might work: amzn.to/3emIP9d
@@Bootstrappin looks perfect. Cheers!
Love your sense of humor. Ass pain math checks out. Thanks for the vid! About to jump into my ‘01
Thank you! According to my calculations for that model year, you'd better have a torch handy for the bolts!

Phenomenal video
Thank you for providing very clear efficient intel
your new backyard doesn't look as scary in the bright sunlight (but what does?)
Yeah the night just isn't very nice to abandoned buildings lol
YOU DID IT BOOT MAN!
Yeah! Feels good man.
How many miles does your Forrester have?
Never mind I watched the whole video, great video btw!
@@salohcinrekucm2119 thanks man. But yeah, about 177k miles now.
Would you feel air coming out of the muffler ?

Just had my cat converter swapped out with two o2 sensors right before Christmas.... $1035
Ouch, yes that sounds about right unfortunately. Why did the catalytic converter fail?
Well done! Hopefully that was the right part and you didn't just convert your Subaru into a Cadillac.
Lol my perception of luxury is completely lop-sided now. It's quiet as a Rolls in there.
I added the required amount of stickers, and now it’s a 10 second car.
Grocery shopping list: +300 hp. Instagram sticker: +450 tq.
Old cats are worth money at the junkyard
Good point! That's what I'll do with this one.
Don't EVER use fuel cleaner additives or Cat cleaner additives will destroy your Cat
You're super funny
