Making a custom crystal reveal chamber in a Vire and Corvus hilt build

  • I've wanted to do a crystal chamber build for a while now, but I have not liked the VHC chambers or other options. Since my favorite part of hilt building is customizing the parts, I decided to do my own.
The customizations so far are all to the, now no longer available, 2 inch ribbed extension in gold between the emitter and the switch housing. Five holes drilled and threaded to mount the Corvus Saber Foundry Shrouds. The fun (read stressful) part was what I just did today: actually cutting the reveal window into the part. I had to take into account how it attaches to the parts above and below it as well as how much space I could safely open up. T-Square, tape measure, and marker, followed by Dremel with a cutting wheel. I then used my drill press and drilled out the corners before prying the cutting away with a screwdriver. Power and hand tools to file, sand, and even out and...I can breathe again since I didn't destroy the part (or hurt myself) in the process. 😉
I'll clean up the aperture a bit more and then move onto the next step of electronics and kyber crystal with mount. That's sort of new territory to me so I'm going to learn from a few experienced builders on how best to proceed and then map the next steps out.
