More on “monofloral” honey: No beekeeper can guarantee, of course, that a bee hasn’t visited another type of flower. However, there are best practices they follow: Beehives are placed in an area dominated by manuka in full bloom. The honey is immediately extracted following the end of the nectar flow, and the honey is laboratory tested to ensure it meets thresholds for pollen count (and other variables).
Makes sense. Thank you!
I live in New Zealand and have been buying Manuka honey for years. We saw a sharp increase in price when we had an influx of Chinese legal immigrants over the last 15 years. I would see them grouped around the honey section in supermarkets debating on which one to buy in bulk to send back to China. This doesn't happen anymore as there is now a more direct commercial supply to China but the demand grew exponentially because of the belief in its health benefits. Here in NZ we don't experience the over-blown hype about its health benefits like I've seen on American TV...all we experience is the 2-3 times of it's price increase.
Interesting that you guys haven't succumb to the hype! In America it seems like we're always looking for a quick "magic bullet" to cure our ailments rather than doing the slow work of changing our lifestyles.
I’m not much of a follower but I actually get excited when I see a new video from you. There is a trust that I can’t explain. Thank you for True Food TV!
I've dedicated myself to developing that trust with all of you, so that means a lot to me, thank you!
Thank you for sharing information on Manuka. I've been wondering if the enthusiasm for it is warranted. Perfectly timed! ❤
Oh God, I just love your channel so much! It's packed with information and you're a very good presenter.
Thank you so very much!
Hi Nicole-
Appreciate Sharing such great information.
Thanks for watching, Michael!
Thanks for this video. Was informative. For a beginner regarding Manuka Honey, u covered all major points briefly n with crisp. Good presentation.
Oh Nicole! Thank you for your wonderful channel! These things always make me scratch my head. I've been on this earth for many decades and have never heard of this stuff. I can see it's not new. I wonder why this is the first time I've encountered this information. Is it because other honey manufacturers have tried to suppress it? Either way, I think I'll stick with honey that doesn't cost a fortune. Thanks again! You are awesome!
Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for the valuable insights and helping the community be educated. Thank you also for NOT using background music. I've seen a lot of channel who have this repetitive background music that does not nothing but distract! :-)
Thank you Nicole for your thorough research 👏👏👏👏😍
Thank you for watching!!
👍🍯Great info and thanks for the simple breakdown. I love manuka honey. The only thing i would add is that multifloral manuka honey still has all the health befits if the MGO is over 100+. Lately ive been getting Gold Fern Honey, they have great Manuka at reasonable prices on amazon ❤
Interesting about the multifloral aspect. I have tried GoldFern honey and I really like it too.
Your video post on UA-cam about Manuka honey was highly informative and honest. That shows that you are a person of high integrity and morals. Keep it up and God bless. Don't allow my praises to get to your head and start to mess up.
As usual I learned something new from your video. First time heard of this brand of honey.
🙏🙏
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi Nicole,
Thanks for the great discussion on Manuka Honey!
Important point for wound care: Only use medical grade Manuka Honey that's been gamma-irradiated and sterilized for wounds. In many places, these dressings need medical device registration. Regular Manuka Honey is great for consumption, but wounds require the sterilized version. Medical-grade Manuka Honey dressings are fantastic for wound healing (in my experience!).
Regards.
Indeed, and for most wounds a good honey ointment will do the trick, no need to buy actual expensive honey
Really did they have all that in Bible times do bres need it yet they're o ly insect not to get infections
Propolis is miraculous n bees don't put it thru any process lol
You're absolutely right! Thanks for that note.
...wonderfully done clip, Nicole, and very distinct (if you would be honey, it would be mono-floral and at least 100+) 🌻
Ha! Love it - thank you!
I love that the OMG scene is muffled instead of full on invading our ears. Good job!
I would never do that to my lovely people!
Love the detailed chapters
But I wanna know, can this be produced in any part of the world under greenhouses with just that one flower? Are there any who do?
Could you recommend a specific product or brand and where to get it from?
You’re the best! 👍🏼😃Thanks!🐝🌸
Thank YOU for watching!
I knew you were an undercover agent for big honey! Lol. Jk. Thank you for breaking it all down.
MGO... GMO... OMG!!! 😂
😆
What if you add tea tree oil to your regular honey? Would that work?
You should try stingless bee's honey, there are many different species where each one produces different honeys.
Great information, thanks!. But I'll stick with my jars of raw Harvey's Honey from South Jersey. Pine Barrens variety is my personal favorite.
Sounds wonderful! I'm a local raw honey girl myself. ;)
قناة مفيدة جدا لكن ينقصها الترجمة للغات الأخرى وخاصة العربيه
I like lavender honey made from lavender nectar the best, tastes amazing.
Lovely!
fantastic video
Thank you! 😃
So it's gathered, processed and bottled the same way as all other honey's? Maybe TeaTree land is scarce? Then it's just localized as you said. Maybe postage is higher, coming from so far away 🤔
It'd be nice if you gave the sources you used, for if we want to read further on it. And it also helps with your credibility 😊
Yemeni Sidr Honey is another strong contender for best medicinal quality honey.
Theres a local honey farmer just making small batches and the cream honey is incredible
I bought some rain forest honey and it was awesome tasting. I buy honey for taste
B4 it even hits the gut it cures coughing and sore throats and more
No magic superfood? Try Raisin Bran!! Happy going in, happy going out.
If it’s UMF and MGO rated/certified does it matter as much if it’s explicitly stated to be monofloral? You’re presumably getting the important compounds with a high rating.
I would be suspicious of a multifloral with a high rating.
The only honey I like, is you
pure and honest
Awwww, thanks
They just did a study on manuka honey and biofilm and it was incredibly effective. I do think you guys might be getting ripped off though. I can get a 250gram 350+ mgo container in new zealand for 15nzd which is around ten bucks usd. I would get the cheaper one and enjoy the flavour daily. Its nice enough to eat off of the spoon.
A very useful channel, but it lacks translation into other languages, especially Arabic
I heard about this a while ago when my elderly mother had wounds treated with “New Zealand honey”. It worked for that clinical use, but I didn’t taste it….
Yes, sterilized manuka is used specifically for topical treatment.
You are the honey.
I'm curious, in order for this honey to be derived from a single plant that plant would need to be in bloom for the entire season. In a warm climate I would assume the bees would be active all year around. Does the Manuka plant bloom all year and can they control bees from seeking out another flowering plant? This is an observation. I don't know if anyone knows the answer.
only flowers for a few weeks, last year sharvest was very poor due to the weather and bee keepers struggled to keep bees alive, this year 2024 has been a good harvest
I've pinned a comment aboe about monofloral honey. It's a good question.
What about Jarrah Honey? Suppose to have a higher antimicrobial rating than manuka.
Jarrah is superior, but Manuka has has been so well known, they are charging for brand, Jarrah Marri sidr are all superior
I love manuka honey. It has a distinct taste that is different from non-manuka honey. Primarily, it is not as cloyingly sweet. At the lower MGO/UMF it has a subtle note that is hard to describe, but it takes a turn from sledgehammer sweetness of non-manuka honey.
Higher MGO/UMF tastes more medicinal to me and veers even more from the taste of non-manuka honey, which makes it less enjoyable for me. If I want medicinal, I'll just take medicine. I don't get the demand for high MGO/UMF, really. It might makes sense for diabetics who want to take less for the same perceived benefit. Like all natural products with unique properties, manuka might have a stronger physiological response depending on the individual. If certain people experience a strong response in their body, I am inclined to believe them. For me, I love the taste of manuka, so I don't mind taking more spoonfuls of the lower MGO/UMF.
look into stingless bee honey.
So if you mix Tea tree oil with regular honey do you get a Manuka like honey?
no
@@swn02why not?
because it's the oil from the leaves
wouldn't want to injest oil which is for topical use
@@swn02She said the antibacterial benefits were topical only anyway.
❤❤❤
For the people asking: No, you can't make Manuka honey by adding the tree oil in regular honey, because a big part of the flavor difference comes from the different glucose/fructose ratio in it, which differs from most types of honey and is significantly lower in fructose.
The brain is a highly metabolically active organ requiring a large amount of glucose. Methylglyoxal (MGO), a by-product of glucose metabolism, is known to be involved in microvascular dysfunction and is associated with reduced cognitive function
white manuka honey is great.
Did my thesis on honey. Manuka's cost to health benefit ratio is not good. You're just paying like 30 more dollars for miniscule improvement of certain aspects. Not all mind you, only few aspects.
Just stick with your local farmer fresh honey. Those are great.
Thank you for sharing Honey
Honeys been around since the Bible times n it worked!
No, i prfer notmal honey, cause hanuka honey distinct scent that overpower everything you added in, even in milk, unless you like the scent.
its only worth buying semi expensive manuka honey if you are appling it topically, if eating it you dont really get any benifit, but hey i also get it for free
Sounds awesome!!
or just buy tea tree oil?
Anti-bacterial only works for bacteria. Many ailments are viral or fungal in nature and it won't help at all. I don't think the anti-bacterial properties are what's soothing sore throats as even the cheapest artificial honey seems to help and most common forms of throat infections are viral. Outside of direct contact to skin and strep throat, im very skeptical of any medicinal properties.
It also clearly doesn't effect the gut biome as the anti-bacterial properties don't discriminate between the "good" and "bad" gut bacteria. Therefore it would upset our gut biome like anti-biotics do.
So... How many 300$ bottle I have to eat to because immortal 🤣
To me it isn't any better as the raw honey didn't c any health benefits then other raw honey.
I may be one of 10,000 people, maybe more, but I do not like Honey. I like tea, I like coffee, as it is. Nothing else. Well, with tea, a bit of lemon, but I do like lemons & other citrus fruits.
Honeys delicious 🍯 it's sweet do you not like sweets
monofloral honey is a joke, you cant control where bees go unless you have a sprayed monocrop thats like 16square kilometers.
There are areas where manuka is the prevalent flower in bloom. See pinned comment above.
Second comment❤
thr australians just want feed off the manuka name, not their aborignal name, which i dont know
Every bee works incredibly hard to make honey for their hive. It belongs to the bees - not for humans to greedily use. There are so many natural, tasty sweeteners including maple syrup, coconut syrup, a multitude of sugars, molasses, malted syrups, real corn syrup (not high-fructose), golden syrup, and then there are those syrups, made of kind-hearted folks, that taste like honey but are vegan, etc., etc.
In one honey bee's entire life they make less than a gram (0,8 gram) of honey. Honey bees are also a invasive species in all of North and South America (Australasia and other island nations too). They crowd out natural pollinators disrupting our eco systems.
Please consider other sweeteners as people don't need honey but the bees actually do. Thanks :D
First
I do not like Honey, except my wife... & I call her Bunny...
What a load of..... I bet a million that an asprine even doe a better job against inflamation. Get real people
Oh yeah GOD Said in the QURAN 1500 years ago about the honey and we just now figured that
Dude, Honey 🍯 is created by bees 🐝 let's give them the appreciation over a myth of religion that is just 1500 years old.
Nature > God.
@@abc_cba 👍
Most cultures used honey for medicinal uses for 10000 years. There is written records the Egyptians used it 4000 years age. There is nothing in the Quran that was not known by most of the world’s population. It is not a scientific resource, not even close .
The most potent honey is potentially Sidr, it has not been tested widely but a greek test came out with MG0 800 equivalent rating. Yemeni Saudi Sidr is considered most potent. Sidr tree is mentioned three times in the Quran and also in the Bible.
