Guilty Gear is still some of the best of both worlds, but the cell shading line shading, filters and what not, give it a good mix of manga mixed with traditional Japanese art style. I think it does a great job.
I'm hoping for chacham Ahmed our favorite pelican girl legend to be showing up as DLC. Or even a certain blast fist wielding bad ass. So many cool diverse characters in the franchise.
We already got Hanzo, the original unza droppin bad ass that inspired many spiraling dropping ninjas in videogames ever since.
@Gorilla Jones me too. they could have at least gone for an okami look, where it is 3d that is masked to look like a comic book

So happy this is coming out with the love it was given. This will be a must buy for me on the PS4 so I can support more releases in this gem of a franchise.

Haha.. "You look like a fucking NASCAR driver!" I LOL when Vic said that. The fact that he rarely ever swears just made it that much funnier and unexpected. Of course John is dressed appropriately so. Good stuff all around.
I will be buying the Switch version when it comes out, I want to be able to take this everywhere with me.
Very enthusiastic review (and how could it NOT be with that outfit!). I think the game looks amazing and has the best art direction of any recent SNK game by a wide margin. I hope that the fact that SNK is trying so hard to match the quality of its classic era is rewarded with good sales. The incentive to buy the game at launch by offering a free season pass before the month ends is genius too. I know fighting games are sadly a niche genre (with the exception of the MK/SF/Tekken trinity), so I'm cheering even more for them.
They say next year kof xv they will try to make the graphic more good than samsho and i know they will make the gameplay solid for combo player

@@capsortee They have mentioned plans of releasing 4 characters in gaps of 2 months. The first character is Rimururu who got a trailer recently. The others are yet to be announced

Sega CD version hopefully! Lunar eternal blue is one of my favourite JRPGS of all time.
Crazy Picard you have good tastes!!! The story was amazing, the epilogue was new and gave a fantastic amount of replay value (gave me a reason to go back to old villages to talk to npc’s about the aftermath), and the saga cd has the better ghalleon battle animations (I prefer the fight at he steps of the magic guild vs the roof top any day). Also I’m in the minority here but I don’t mind the Pay for Save feature (gave me more of a reason to be strategic with my saves). Overall bad ass game and a bad ass series and Johnny is the only one that can do the series justice on a review!!

Thanks so much John and Vic for this. I was a huge Samurai Shodown fan growing up. My favorite was Samurai Shodown 2, and this reboot looks fantastic.
What's funny is that samurai showdown game would give you the Japanese snk shop Link to those clothes. You'd be greeted by the man Geese Howard himself wearing that hoodie.

I just got it. I been playing Samurai Shodown since middle school. I;m trying to go online to find a match, but yea, no one is online. Shame, because this is a really fun game to play, simple and easy to use, and looks cool.
As always your content is great. I would definitely pick this up if I had a PS4. But I'll keep an eye out for more of your Switch Reviews for now 👍

For using a PS3 fighting stick on the PS4, try the Dual Shock 3 to PS4 adapter by the Taiwanese company Brook. Every PS3 fighting stick should work on the PS4 wirelessly through this adapter with barely any input lag. Should be on Amazon.
I really hope the rest of the cast from 1 & 2 eventually make it in as well as backgrounds/stages.

Wow I used to watch electric playground on TV in the 90s. Samurai shodown is great. Got it already but it wasn't easy to come by as you'd expect for a new release. There was something about only printing so many copies.
Love me some Samurai Showdown! I remember back in the day with my Neo Geo CD with tons of hours with 1 & 2, Mostly loading screens LOL.

Update January 2020, I found a copy on sale at my local GameStop for $20!! Tried out tutorial, practice with characters.. i am hooked all over again. It is beautiful
looks way better then the newer k.o.f game. this looks like 2d snk in 3d, finally a good transition.
Yeahh, it's not bad, but I'd say Guilty Gear hands down gets the nod for best 2D -> 3D art transition for fighting games.
@@sillyskeleton nope, still a 2d game esque game guilty gear. it's still closer to the core. accent core :p. as much as i love some guitar shred, guilty gear kinda does become tiresome after a couple of games, i only like the first few and that psp game for the "shreds"\m/.

Just discovered this series last week with emulation, very good 5 is great.
I'm pretty sure someone else must have said by now, but the game is missing Gen-an (as Johnny said), Wan Fu and, well, as far as I know, Amakusa from the original Samurai Shodown. Other than that, I'm also looking forward to this one. :)
Gen an amakusa appear in samsho 1 new samsho is after samsho v event so dont worry maybe dlc.Snk will give fan favorite character but amakusa a boss maybe not

I like this channel been watching for years now I was a 90s kid arcades as much as I could big fighting game fan.But these type of games never stood the test of time for me no matter how good the now look.I couldn't play fighting games now I just do get the same buzz as when I was a kid.
If SNK brings out the sequel to Garou I will be even happier

I find this game not to be so great on the graphics side. It's still nice that we got a new entry in the franchise and there is a decent amount of characters.
There are 2 characters missing from the original game, Gen-An, and Wanfu. Wanfu's ending said he'd be forgotten by history, SNK were soothsayers as this video forgot him too.
Samurai Showdown 2 I must have spent 500 quarters on my breaks at the arcade. Best arcade game ever. Favorite character was Kyoshiro, the yellow, orange Kabuki Clown like character. His lion kick was awesome. Then they changed him for the worst in the 3rd and future games. This looks great though.
You two should do some more stuff together. Good energy!
I hope Darkstalkers gets the same treatment someday.

I think it should be a good one to buy as it has a dojo mode for practicing. If you like fighters this one is a must, the sam sho games have a different, more methodical flow to the matches.
It's getting great reviews, so, someone who's new to this series can easily pick up and get in. I also think that there's a free demo available on the Japanese PSN network(and maybe Xbox?) with 3 available characters. So, please give it a try. Plus, if you purchase the game before June 30th, you get the first season pass(with 4 DLC characters in the upcoming months) for free
The story is set before the events of the first games. Id say yes.

Victoly !! Long time samurai shodown fan here going back to the first one from 93.I been a little hesitant,towards the new ss since snk of today isn't the same.Still most of the response i've seen for it have been good so i'll will be buying it asap.
I'm guessing that SNK will probably redo a bunch of their games with a similar art style as this, so when the next Capcom Vs SNK game eventually comes out, the characters art styles won't clash too much.

Qanba Obsidians, compatible with PS3, PS4, & PC were on sale recently thru Newegg for $100 brand new. A friend bought one & we customized it with spare parts I had; Korean, Crown brand, translucent buttons, 4 lb spring, octo gate, & aluminum battop with matching sleeve & dustcover. It's such a nice feeling fightstick, & was cheap. Newegg emailed me a coupon code for $50 off + they had it on sale for $150. I gave the code to my friend & BAM!
I didn't need one, as I already own 2 of them. That price, though! It just ended, within a week or less.
I think SNK needs to really take a note from Arcade1UP and start re-releasing their arcade cabinets so more people can afford them. I love this remake and I can't wait to try it out. Now that I have a Pro, I've got to get this and more Neo Geo PS4 ports.

Yeah same here. I'll cop it on a price drop. Plus the game feels pretty plain and slow compared to what i usually play.

It's a lot about mind games and maintaining the neutral using fundamentals like footsies, etc. But, if you want to give this a try, there should be a free demo on the Japanese PSN network(with 3 Characters) I don't know how long it was supposed to last, but it's a good way to get to know a little about how it plays

OMG im a huge fan of samurai showdown and didn't even know this was happening. I was into samurai since i was a child and i love how they finally get more love in pop culture.

Shizumaru better be a DLC character. I always loved Shizumaru's design. Kinda sad that Gen-an, Nicotine and Sieger didn't make the cut.

This looks very good. I've always heard of Samurai Showdown but I've never played it myself so I may have to pick this up when it's cheaper.
My god my hype level is insane! SamuraiShodown is by far SNKs best franchise, been a super fan of SNK and the Neo format since the late 80s. 89 had to work 5 or 6months doing an insane paperRound just to get the money together for just one NeoAES cart and the Neo still in my late 30s the NeoGeo is my favourite format! Im a bit of a rare one when it comes to the Neo scene as much as I love my AES personal my pride and joy is my CDZ! And not because of the cheaper games, I have 20-25 carts, loads of the big-hitters as for CD I nearly have a complete set of officially released game so why I love my CDZ as much is anyones guess, however, now I have TerraOnions NeoSD and NeoSDPro I think my AES has tipped my CDZ!
The Shodown franchise is by far SNKs best, everything about it is mental, on launch day for the Original NeoAES I can remember getting it home and powering up, seeing those HUMUNGOUS sprites for the first time on a home-console I was quiet literally breathless! At the time playing something like Shodown in your own home other than the Neos just wasn't posable or the ports one did get were so stripe downed you were almost paying a different game!
For me I love the Shodown games, the entire franchise but 2 and 5Special being my top two, in 2004 when SNK officially 'retired' the AES console I literally cried, a grown man crying over a games console wasn't a good look!
Cant wait for my JPN PS4 version to arrive, the limited edition comes inside a clamshell/mk2 AES cart book, looks amazing! MJ
For 80cnd it's hard to buy with the slim amount of modes compared to something like mk11. Just wish there was more offline content.

I ain't gonna lie, I'm not a fan of the SFIV/MVC3 look all the old 2D series are switching to at all. It turns me off to all these fighter sequels and reboots. I can't be the only one.
same here, looks too kiddiefied, but then i can never think of a artstyle in general for 3d that works as good or better than sprites for beatemups.

Seriously thinking of picking this up. Known about the series for a very long time, but never owned any of the games.
The lack of Genan is very distressing to me.
The artist of this game is very good. The backgrounds are very beautiful to look at. Im a fan of this game since the original neogeo arcade the quality may not be AAA but it has the essense and feel of the original.
