I would suggest doug to watch light speed rescue or time force but he might think the acting is too generic...but those 2 seasons really feel serious and the stakes feel big....i think most people would enjoy power rangers in space, lightspeed rescue and time force...those are my 3 go to seasons.....they arent generic....they feel like real dramatic shows with weight and no psa's..and they have adults as the rangers....and the characters drama and even jokes aren't bad..

That's how I felt when I discovered Linkara's history of power rangers a few years back. I've always been a fan, but him combined with the legacy toy line kicked it back into overdrive!

It was changed to 'Hero' in the UK because at the time they thought we wouldn't know what 'Ninja' was. You know, the same reason the US turned 'Philosopher' into 'Sorcerer' for Harry Potter. It all comes down to crusty old studio executives being completely out of touch in all countries.

    Channel Awesome
You guys should give PR a chance. Try watching one of the better seasons like RPM, In Space, Time Force or S.P.D. You can't judge the entire franchise by only the first season. Or if you need something to tear apart, you can always use Megaforce.

    • @JulioCoolioClassic
      @JulioCoolioClassic 9 років тому +2

***** if you mean five minutes of megaforce I understand but five minutes of Time force or In space, you can't judge a show by five minutes of it. It's like if I were to judge dragon ball by 5 minutes of a bad episode. Hell, on time force the red ranger DIES in the 1st 5 minutes.

The UK thing you guys are thinking off is the BBFC banned the use of nunchucks in film. This came after a few robberies and attacks using them (although the person involved was more influenced by A Clockwork Orange). TMNT2 was censored in a way that a shot with sausages being used as nunchucks was cut. The ban has now been lifted.

If those two knew back then, they would be amaze that the original source of Power Rangers (also known as Super Sentai) have lasted for more than 40 years and it's still growing strong. They are in their 39th series (if you don't count the two seasons of the unofficial sentai).

Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, is essentially what would have been the first two episodes of the new series strung together into kinda a TV movie special. So you are both very correct on this fact.
The original MMPR movie was a departure, almost an AU of the Television show. And fox caught flack for that back when the first movie came out. Especially considering the subsequent season of the TV show after the movie took the "ninjetti" concept in a different direction than what we saw in the movie.
But I do agree, objectively, the first film is better than the second, because at least they tried.

If that is you're opinion on power rangers, than I can live with it. But to the fans who grew up with it, it's more than that. Yeah we know it's goofy and strange from time to time. But over the years it grew into something more. For me it's what helped me get through a tough childhood. Every day when I came home from a day of getting my ass kicked at school. I would just watch the show and it would always make me feel better. It helped me know between right and wrong. And gave me the confidence I needed to join a karate class and start learning how to protect myself. 9 years later I'm as any black belt. This is just coming from a die hard fan because I've watched the show ever since I was 3 (I'm almost 19 now). But still critic I love your videos and your point out flaws in any movie and make a harmless joke out of it. The only reason I'm not telling you off for dissing the power rangers (seriously if you ever go to a power morphicon and say the show sucks. I can imagine it'll end up just like that little review you did on ponyo.) It's because I don't need too. They've been around for 20 years and still going strong. So I don't need to defend them to you. They're doing just fine without your opinion or approval.

If you will ever give Power Rangers a shot may I recommend
    Power Rangers Lost Galaxy
    Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue
    Power Rangers Time Force
In that order, yes I know that's alot but for 40 episodes for each season the tell compelling, good character's (most of the time), somewhat good acting but Doug if you are reading this please consider it not for your reaction but so I can see Critic's opinion and watch Critic try to tear three of my most favorite show's of all time (and the reason for watching them in order is crossover episodes and no they're not spoilers because every season does it).

So, question for the masses since I never watched Power Rangers: Is it all technically one continuous show, just with different banners kind of like Pokemon (although that may be wrong, after the Orange League I was out), or are they separate series that share a universe kind of like Star Trek?

    • @AnimeMasterManWND

It is for the most part it is one continuity. There are references to other seasons and some seasons even have team up episodes with previous season's team. There is one season that takes place in an alternate universe, but that's it.

My first and most nostalgic villain that I fell in love with was Ivan Ooze. At the time, Gak was being produced and sold as well as other similar products. I'm not sure if they ever sold Ooze in that form, but if not they should have. Either way, because of that time of my life revolving around things like the creepy crawlers ez-bake oven ripoff, Gak, and other slimy gross products that were marketed towards young boys in the 90's, I loved the idea of Ivan Ooze. Of course, the fact that I was at an age where not very many movies could capture my attention for long helped a bit.

I was probably like a year or less old when Power Rangers first debuted, so I think I started watching at around Zeo or Turbo in '95 or '96. I was hooked instantly, and even as a kid I watched a bit of Mighty Morphin', but the movies I really liked, even if they weren't all that good. Though nothing can top the original megazord of course, I wanna say my favorite was the thunder megazord from the second season, since it was a dragon that could turn into a warrior, and then suit up with the other zords.

One of my favorite Power Rangers seasons is In Space. I love the space aspect, The Red Ranger Andros has a good character arc. All the Villains from Mighty Morphin, Zeo and Turbo come together with new villains. In fact, after Mighty Morphin, Zeo and Turbo this was at first supposed to be the final power rangers season but clearly they made more.

I like getting your guys thoughts on the movies. Being a big fan of the show since it came out, I always find it interesting to see what the opinions of others are for the films. I do agree that there is a difference in quality in the two films many because of when they were made. With MMPR, this was 1995 and the shows chance to launch as a big media franchise after making billions of dollars just on the last two years of sales. This was also a means of getting fans prepared for the 3rd season where the powers would change by giving us a sneak peek at powers and concepts. This would change when we get to the actual series.
The Turbo movie, on the other hand, feels like the TV show because it's set in the TV show. The film was meant as an actual bridge between the previous season, Power Rangers Zeo, and the next season that was about to start that fall. The first episode of Power Rangers Turbo has a whole 3 minute montage of the movie as the group is explaining to Rocky what happened while preparing for graduation. Both are aimed at doing things differently based on the budgets provided and what impact it was meant to have on the series. Whether it was a work giving the show a big screen polish or continue the series with a theatrical event, if you were of the age and of the fandom that can see how things work, it's a great experience. I love both movies and I could explain some of the stuff that happened in the movies for what could be logical reasons per the show's concepts.

To Rob, I would recommend Super Sentai, the parent of Power Rangers where all the stock footage comes from. Often times the Sentai seasons are better than their Power Rangers equivalent. I would especially recommend the 35th season Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger since it is 35 flavors of badass. It is an anniversary season, but they explain the cameos and fan service so new viewers don't get lost. I am a Power Rangers for life guy (even during its worst seasons like Overdrive and Megaforce), but there's no denying that Super Sentai (usually) has better stories. (Don't watch Dairanger though)

Here in Italy it was called "Tartarughe Ninja" (Ninja Turtles), so it clearly wasn't applied, though I remember being puzzled since I had a coloring book or a poster or something that did have "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles", so it's possible that it was only on merchandise, or, most likely, it was only in the UK or some other specific country.

As a little kid I always found out-of-suits teenager parts boring (minus Bulk & Skull's hammy performances). Was very entertained whenever the show involved the power ranger suits, the zords, Zordon, or the villains. Yeah even then I knew it was corny as hell, but at its best it was some awesomely stupid that I didn't care and enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure. I haven't really watched it in a while (aside from occasional UA-cam clips, parodies, or reviews for nostalgia sake), but I still look back on it with fun memories.

One of my favorite seasons is power rangers in space. I love the space aspect and the red ranger andros has a great character arc. All the villains from Mighty Morphin, Zeo, Turbo come together with new villains too. In fact, after Mighty Morphin, Zeo and Turbo Power rangers was supposed to end with Power Rangers in Space but, that idea quickly went to making more.

Many people died during the great Ninja Massacaru of the 1900s! A combination of strict weapon laws and the banning of Ninjutsu as a spiritual movement led to the underground growth of organised Shinobi mafia-like organisations. Those were some dark times.
I'd be a little more sensitive about mocking the UK's relationship with ninjas =(

The part when Adam (the ranger Bosch played) complained about him being the frog: That was his idea. From what I read, he and the rest of crew must've had a blast when making this movie.

Though to be fair by the time I was a little kid cartoons and sit-come were pretty oversaturdated so Flinestones had a lot of competition for my 7 year-old attention.

When Power Rangers debuted in 1993 I was just outside of 10 years old. So I did watch Power Rangers as I got older I do see how corny the show is, but when I realized that I'm 10 years older then the show I went on a Ranger Retrospective just to say that I've seen all the series, and I've realized why I liked it as a kid. It's corny but fun minus a couple seasons. As far as both movies go the first one is somewhat good even if it has bad CGI. The second one Turbo is bad. Not just the movie but the series as well. But you got to admit that weather you like it or you don't it's the most sucessful kids show ever. Not a lot of kids shows stay on the air for over 20 years.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was my generation - it premiered when I was six, but even I don't have fond memories of it, 'cause my mom strictly forbid me to watch it. "It's too violent!" she said, apparently out of the fear that I'd start roundhouse kicking my sister if I laid eyes on it. I didn't even like gym class, what made her think I'd want to start fighting?
But now that bit at the end has got me curious to hear your real thoughts on the live-action Flintstones movie.

I grew up with PowerRangers (and to this day I still see MightyMorphin as the best) and while the movie had a lot of non-connon stuff in it, I thought the suits, Lord Zedd and Zordon were superior in the first movie. As for the Turbo movie, I question the ship as well. And the two former rangers were Jason and Kimberly. As for the Flintstones Movie: Viva RockVagas. I couldn't get through it because The Great Gazoo's animation - particularly the face - terrified me. And I watched is as an adult.

Interesting fact about Britain's ban on "Ninja's", although this may have nothing to do with the rebranding of the Turtles in the UK. In the 70's when Kung-Fun was highly popular in Britain, a comedy show (and a bloody good show) called The Goodies did a parody of the Kung-Fun craze by making there own Kung-Fu art called Ecky-Thump - or just hitting people over the heads with black pudding. And in the episode two of the Goodies decided to go up against the third Goodie with their multiple Kung-Fu martial arts and when one of them dressed up as a Scotsman and used his bagpipes as a weapon, an old man actually died from laughter at the scene.
