As far as I know Dave Chapelle was never banned. He walked away - had enough of Hollywood’s BS. 💜

They wanted him to change his show so he said, I'm out.
As far as I know Chappelle never got banned...he turned down a new contract and left to Africa, the rest is history. He stayed true to his self and got recognized worldwide because of it. He is brilliant and should be recognized for that...he is the greatest comedian but he is also so much more than that. You should check out some Carlin...he is also pretty amazing (George Carlin)

In his Letterman interview he talks about a sketch where he questioned if the crew was laughing at him or with him. Apparently this rubbed him the wrong way and he walked away from a 50 million dollar third season payday. Say what you want about his brand of comedy, like it or hate it, the guy never sold out.

Lol, Leo! Dave didn’t get cancelled or kicked off the air. He felt he was being used by the higher ups at Comedy Central, and quit to go to Africa. He makes light of it throughout season 2. Was a shame what we all lost, but he had his reasons. At least he’s finally back in Hollyweird.
It'd almost be easier if you just binge watched the whole series.
Unpopular opinion but a lot of the skits haven't aged that well. On a rewatch I skip a lot of them because they just aren't funny. Now don't get me wrong the classics still HIT but the entire collection isn't what you remember

You would love to see Dave Chapelle on Inside the Actors Studio. It's about 30 minutes long so i don't know which channel. The guy who is the interviewer on Inside the Actors Studio is amazing. He is a total vibe of his own.
here is something that only came to light recently through dave himself.
despite the fact that it was one of the most popular comedy shows ever made, dave did not own "chappelle's show"
the reason? the contract he signed when CC came to him was made in desperation. dave had a family to raise and was only doing minor and bit parts in hollywood. so he took the money upfront and signed away the rights to the show.
fast forward a few years and CS ended up on hbo max. not only did dave not know about it, he didn't see a dime of the money. now, dave didn't really need the money. it was the fact that his name wasn't his own and his legacy was traded away without his knowledge or say so, which is part of why he left to begin with. earlier this year, he related this story in one of his netflix specials and he asked his fans to "cancel him". he told them not to watch CS anywhere, to show hollywood that the viewers had the power to make changes.
well............it worked.
a week after the special aired, ratings and views for CS on hbo max dropped to nearly zero. then HBO gave dave back the rights to his show and his name perminately. and now you can watch the show on netflix and dave didn't want a dime of the money. he just wanted his name back.

I forgot about this skit!!! It’s hilarious! When my husband and I started dating he had all of the seasons on DVD. A few years back, a bad hurricane came through Florida and we were out of power for two weeks! We had our bedroom hooked up to the generator, all we could watch was DVD’s. It was a nice to have a laugh after what we had just gone though!!

The other thing I was gonna say is Dave is by far my favorite comedian. I think maybe even the best, his delivery and way of story telling and comedy is something most have never seen before. It's really no worse than anything Cosby or Murphy or Pryor ever said, only difference is he just took 10 extra steps ahead that's all. Times change and so does everything else, the problem is everyone is so sensitive and serious that they can't take a joke. Dave has always been this way and it's nothing new, so yes it's a little over the top but he's only kidding. It's genius, the world is very sad right now and alot are angry, but its nice to see you laugh the way you always do, if more were like you right now I think things could get back to some kind of normal.
You need to see the Fear Factor skit with Tyrone Biggums. Player Haters Ball is a great skit also.
