I used to have all connections balanced but with my analog desk I have unbalanced inserts. I didn’t like it but connected all inserts unbalanced to my patchbays and there is no difference in quality at all when using short cables. If anything needs a quality cable then it’s probably guitar cables.
For power protection I build myself a surge protector with noise filters, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Also al my gear is on one wall socket to avoid earth loops. All my gear in my studio draws only 450 watts, a vacuum cleaner draws more. A 16A wall socket can handle 3000 Watts so no problem with everything on one socket.
With harddrives make sure your backup is an old Sata spinning disk. When a SSD crashes it can’t be repaired, a Sata disk can. Have at least three backups is considered safe, again better safe than sorry 😊

Regarding cabling and connectors - if one thinks of the older recordings people love and aspire to, the signal paths will be through loads of patchbay bantam connectors and brass contacts. I can't think of any that are even self cleaning gold plated .. (other than that swiss or italian brand that uses special tiny plugs).
This level of minutia should never matter for making music - it is all about personal audiophile obsessiveness for sitting listening to monitors like an audiophile listens at home.

On the topic of cables, power conditioners and so on: I think everything in the signal chain matters - and just like with all other things in the world, mostly it's the case that if you want better quality you have to pay more - but it doesn't all matter the same amount.
I often feel like on the pro audio side of things, people think that cables don't matter, and power conditioners are a waste of money, and there's no difference between an affordable DAC and some expensive DAC etc etc. And on the audiophile side, they seem to be only interested in a turntable that costs more than a car, and interconnect cables that cost as much as their amp, and I often see audiophiles with systems where they have much more invested in their source components and much less invested in their speakers (and nothing invested in their room).
I think people who fall into the extreme category on either side of things is wrong. An inexpensive DAC isn't exactly the same as a very expensive DAC - the expensive one is expensive for a reason. And no, your room isn't magical - if you are in a room that's smaller than 10m x 9m x 3m, it would be drastically improved by being acoustically treated to a significant degree. These statements shouldn't be controversial, they are based in well-founded scientific principles.
For me, the difference is the return on your investment. The difference between a treated and untreated room is going to be enormous. The difference between cheap speakers in a treated room and expensive speakers in a treated room is going to be enormous, too. The difference between an expensive streamer and a very expensive streamer is going to be very very small, but the price difference will be very big.
Anything worth doing is worth doing right. And things worth doing right are usually difficult, too. Getting a great sounding studio takes work and resources, and it's worth doing. I think it's prudent to aim for the biggest ROI possible, so I think investing as much as possible in the correct order is imperative. Room first, speakers second, and then move further down the chain towards the source.

Ed's right that you can get some top-notch orthopedic office/studio chairs at bargain prices - I just got one from Corporate Spec (in London?).
    £189 instead of £800...!
I think they specialise in buying-up and refurbishing equipment from fancy offices that've gone bust - don't quote me on that, though... lol

All good "sexy" items to consider 🤣👍🏻
My recent ones have been the IsoAcoustic mini pucks, cables & adapters, USB power supply cubes, Strings, and Owens corning stuff & wood to build acoustic boards/bass traps/room treatment, etc. 🤓🤘🏻
    Thanks for sharing your conversations

Why are you guys not talking about rock-salt lamps?!
They have been vital in many studios for about a decade ... apparently.

I don't know but about 5 - 10 years ago they seemed to be as common as NS-10s ! Often next to the NS-10s.

I am so in the "your such a tight ass" remark crew.
The time it takes to do it makes it not a saving lol... you still need to buy a bunch of the ends and then you have a bunch of plugs that are a waste... just sell those wires and be a tight ass that way lol
