I agree both are definitely evil..but i guess what the US military is mainly focused on is terrorrism...cartels and mafia never had any political agenda, just straight up profit, business..so these mobsters are less likely to kill just for the sake of spreading terror unless they would gain a handful of money...whereas middle east guys are purely driven by hate and deep rooted indoctrination...in fact, if the al qaeda or taliban had the means, they wouldve taken over the entire western world already

A good friend of mine went into the Marines right out of high school right after 9/11. First tour got hit with shrapnel from a roadside bomb, injured but not life changing. Right around this time frame of terror he got a job offer from Blackwater for private security. Pay was HUGE and you only worked a handful of months a year and tax free. He was literally signing the papers when his mom flew across the country to see him and cried and begged him the entire week to reconsider. The stories she saw on the news and read on the internet of stuff like this. He ended up reenlisting in the marines and went over to Kabul as a sniper around the US Embassy. He’s now retired, with a family, Mom has her grandchildren. Could have easily gone a different route….

Back in the summer of 04 my unit was sent to the FOB outside of Samarra, by the bypass bridge for the tigris. time magaize wrote an article calling that the most deadly 25 miles of road in the world because of the IED operation the insurgency was conducting. We were tasked with stopping said operation.
We conducted a random hasty road block and inspected a few cars. My driver wahted to inspect one more car after we were told to mount up and roll out. He didnt like the way the man in the front seat was lookinh but he was older with a bunch of older ladies.
A month or two later he walks in the TOC as a bunch of us were looking at the photo of Zarkawi our Brigade HQ sent to us.
He says "whos that?" I just say "the ace of spades". He grabs the picture and says "holy shit, that was the guy in the van from north of the bridge."
Everytime i hear people talk about Zarkawi i get annoyed about how long it took to get his picture to us.

@@craigrj232323Spent 04-05 patrolling the pits of hell in Ramadi, literally foot patrolling Route Michigan from OP to OP. with a little time after the elections in Fallujah as well. During one particular patrol just past OP 297 on Route Michigan our platoon stopped a Haji dump truck traveling in the dark rolling blacked out. To our surprise and theirs as well, we had jumped some agency fellas rolling with nods on with the entire back filled with CAG Operators... there was a bit of initial shock on their part as we were a bit amped up and they were in a non dispersed fixed position with all of us surrounding the truck, but after cooler heads prevailed it turned out they weren't out on direct action HVT... they let us know they would be in the area escorting. Asked us about threats in the area and how to avoid anyone else... we all agreed it was rather suspect... escorting who? To this day I question whether certain players and known actors weren't allowed to move freely or aided in their movement in thr Anbar Province... it's tough being on the ground doing grunt work when you feel people in high places are simply moving pieces on the board as they see fit to benefit their discreet objectives. Years later on my last deployment I had those ugly feelings come back pulling security for some of those same agency fellas types in Mosul handing more than 200,000.00 us dollars monthly to former members of the Iraqi SRG, simply paying them off to limit IED manufacturing, when payments were late the IED numbers went way up, I would tell the interpreter to translate all my angry words at them but I'm sure they understood my English anyway, always wanted to canoe the lead guys head in and take his gold plated AK.

He tells the events with a chuckle and said they thought of them as no more than dogs and would laugh about the piles of bodies they produced, shrugging his shoulders and says war is hell hahaha. I’ve only recently learned from Sean Ryan podcast that there’s a huge difference between Iraq and Afghanistan. And also the difference between the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. From what I’ve learned is that they are all totally different animals.

That Iraqi governments that we try to put in place, or Afghan was definitely not dedicated to us, considering they gave up in one day literally. After World War II look at how we set up everything in the Middle East. It was engineered for this fight. How many people died like 20 years ago in the fight between Iran and Iraq or whatever. It’s engineered.

Well yeah, British/american policy is to maintain a destabilised Middle East to maintain American military industry profits and maintain American control of resources.
Saddam had to go so Israel could get their oil money.

Cannot wait to watch this. Been a fan of Tim since his fighting days, and listened to his Rogan podcasts a few times over. It's clear them two get along well, but it'll be interesting to see is what I feel a totally different side of him perhaps. Thanks for getting him on mate, a true legend and hero.

    Here's a couple questions:
Why were we there (Iraq) to begin with?
Was it to reel in Sadam Hussain who we placed in power? What he went Rouge?
Is it truly for our national security that we must play the regime change game?
Is anywhere we attempted to change the government, better off than we found it?
If not why can't we just stop that as a standard solution for every problem?
