    Take a pliers and bend on the stand offs in the original case. They'll break out of the metal fairly easily and cleanly. Re-use them as nuts in your new case. Or if you have fine thread motherboard stand offs laying around.

    The motherboards I use are optiplex 3020 sff also known as dell dih81r/tigris its lga1150 and I believe it supports standard coolers (EDIT: I can confirm they support standard coolers, I put an Intel stock one and a screw on cooler.) you should take a look at them. I'm sure you've already had experience with it, but thought I'd share in case you haven't

    You can use an Intel stock cooler with these boards without an adapter. Cut the wires and plug from the old cooler and put them in these corresponding holes on the stock cooler. Black to Black, Red to Yellow. Yellow to Green and blue to blue, the 1st colour is the proprietary connector wires and 2nd stock cooler, this can be transferred to all coolers if you can integrate it. For the "hdd fan", you can cut the wires and put them in the same holes as the cpu if you can't use the fan itself.

    Need to check the mobo I used as it is practically the same and I had no problem getting a stock cooler to clip in.
    UPDATE: It was a dell optiplex 790 sff. Not sure the exact mobo but I've found most fit a stock cooler, and if it's just off try an lga 775 cooler if you have one, you never know

      on the sff the stock cooler will still work but with the usff you can use the stock coolers so this little trick helps get around that.

    I modified stok HSF with 4 pin intel to 5 pin dell by using male to female 2.54 pin header cables (arduino cable)... Just change the blue cable position.
    But i still wonder is it ok to leave the chipset without heatsink like that...
    You can see around of it to be browny because of heat...
    I wanna add a chipset heatsink, but there isn't holes around the chipset...
    The original hsf looks like covering the chipset that can suck the heat.

    10:40 just a little tip, the pins them self are actually standard spacing, it's just the plastic shell which hinders you from putting in standard connector.
    Most of them are quite easy to remove and you can fit a normal 3/4pin in there, assuming there is no capacitor blocking.
    It's usually 100% reversible, as the plastic shell is usually just pushed down over the pins and not fastened with anything else.
    Nice breakdown for any new DIY guys out there.
    Edit: only works with 3pin( or 4pin if you leave one out of the side) and it will go full throttle. However a good fan at full throttle or with in build resister is still usually much quieter, and would result in same scenario as running from molex/sata but you will not get CPU fan failure. You can flip it around, running at much lower speed, but will give out CPU fan error.
    I mention this, because not all countries have these adapter readily available. So it might make for a fair upgrade in fan. Alternatively, use case fan on the CPU pins and CPU fans on case pins.

My sistem is an i5-7500 16GB RAM 1TB HDD, no gpu.
    Edit: Forgot to mention that the crucial ram is 2666MHZ while the Samsung one 2400, it's limited by the bios and obviously by the lower mhz one.

      It has not been done and I am not sure on the specifisc but I am def looking to get one in the future and see if it's possible so stay tuned!! as far as the memory, yes they will work in dual channel it would just default to the slower speed ram. now some memory don'nt play nice with each other but those are both good ram and should work. I would try it and run it as is for now and if you brave poss the ram speed a little bit.

    • @DLMtechgarage
      @DLMtechgarage  4 роки тому +2

      yea it does become something to think about when it comes to this particular board from dell. The MTX and traditiona; sff ones don't have this issue and this board limits the variety of cards you can use because of the power connector location but you do have a few options. first being looking up the dimension of the card to see how long and wide it is, smaller 1070 variants clear it as the more beefed up version create an issue. another thing to consider is using a 24 pin L adaptor as it will move the wires away and give you more room so your not butting up again the end of the card. I will put a link below and have known people to go this route and I have heard it works well. the third option is depending on the case your going with you can use a riser extension cable and vertically mount your gpu. Its the easiest way to do it and is a nice look but costs a little more due to the riser card and buying the mount, or for the mount you can fabricate something yourself. Hope this info help, thanks for watching and def let me know what route you choose and how it goes.

      You have a few ways to try and solve this. You can upgrade the cooler but you are gonna need to find a cooler that is not too tall and will clear the surrounding components. The company Noctua makes some that I believe work but they are expensive and you will also need a adaptor to plug it into the mother board. The next option I would consider would be checking the thermal paste. If you have never changed it then that is def your issue. Fresh thermal paste along with dusting out the computer and cleaning out the fans and heatsink will help alot. Use quality thermal paste like artic mx4, or thermal grizzly. Another thing you can do is upgrade just the fan and reuse the heatsink. You can get a 80mm fan from Noctua and adapt it to the heatsink. Their fans have alot more air flow and work great. It does seem that I think the issue is thermal paste. I have used these computer with that set up and never had temp issues but I had to change the thermal paste and clean out the dust on the blower and heatsink. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions and def check out my other video on dusting and cleaning a computer. Thanks for watching!

    Hello, thanks for the video, really interesting.
    A quick question: I have a Dell USFF (vjauj58549.i.lithium.com/community/image/serverpage/image-id/22945iBEAAEBB8804E7FA9/image-size/large?v=1.0&px=999) I need a bigger tower. Swapping to a generic seems to be complicated with the pin compatibility. Then I am checking which Dell Tower is compatible. Any idea please?

    • @DLMtechgarage
      @DLMtechgarage  4 роки тому +1

      swapping to a generic case is actually not that hard as it seems. Their are great guides and info that help. The pin issue has actually been simplified by this guy who sell adaptors he makes on eBay.
      www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-390-3010-3020-Front-Panel-Header-Adapter-Kit-3pc/264638815586?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
      Def check it out and it might be something to consider.
      I have never swapped them to another bigger dell case but I would recommend to just make sure the motherboard measurements fit as the usff board appears to be a little bit longer. You may run into the cpu cooling fan issue due to the bigger cases using typical mounting standards for cpu coolers.

    • @DLMtechgarage
      @DLMtechgarage  4 роки тому

      I would say yes and no. Using the top slot you should be fine. Now depending on the size of the graphics card like a 2.5-3 slot graphics card you then would run into an issue but most standards cards fit with no issue. I ran an rx570 from power color with no issue. I would not put like a 2080 strix or anything huge like that. Thanks for watching hope this help and hope you can subscribe to help the channel!
