Hey, I wanted to address some false infos: the Sheraton has a laurel and the Zephyr has an ebony fretboard. Sorry everyone, our pre-release infos were different. Cheers //Kris
I’m very happy that Gibson is trying to bring Epiphone back, I have a 66 Coronet and a 64 Wilshire and they’re amazing guitars. I hope Gibson can break the annoying consumer and convince people that they’re cool instead of the whole dynamic: -Epiphone releases a new guitar. -“Epiphones are junk!” -Epiphone releases a better guitar with nicer specs. -“That’s too expensive for an overseas guitar!” -Epiphone releases a Made in USA guitar built at the Gibson factory with high end specs. -“well, if you’re going to pay that why not just buy a Gibson?”. Looking forward to a Made in USA Epiphone Coronet with 59 specs!
I like how they are positioning the Epiphone name in a higher bracket where it should be, while still retaining more affordable offerings. Somewhere over the years, the brand became synonymous with "the instrument for those who cannot afford the real thing" type of malarky.
Epiphone was never meant to be a budget brand and they weren't until Norlin ruined that ended in 2019 when JC Curliegh Restored Epiphone back to where they should have always been
By far the best looking Epiphones with the solid good quality from the current production. I still am not swayed by those prices. I bought my first epi in 2016 for $499. Amazing guitar, switched to Gibson since then. I assume the inflation spikes don’t help now, but 1K plus for an epiphone? You can get a used Gibson LP tribute or very nice Mexican fender for around that
Epiphone still sells most of their main line for well under a grand. The over $1K models are just a few from their high end range which usually comes with upgraded pickups, hard case and other spec upgrades. I could get a Les Paul tribute for $1300 but my Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul has ebony fret board, long neck tenon, Seymour Duncan bridge pickup and a chainsaw hard case. The closest Gibson equivalent would be from their Custom Shop and well past $5K in price. Even the regular Gibsons USA Adam Jones LP doesn’t have those specs and features. I prob play and enjoy it as much as my Gibsons.
@@rocktorrocks You can get nicer fenders for the same price. That adam jones model has a nicer finish and is a "signature model", and is the same price as these 150th epiphones.
i got incredibly lucky and ran across a b-stock sheraton for 30% off. look for deals like that, the blemish that landed it in the b-stock pile is literally not noticeable at all and it saved me $400
@@ethanknapp2532 they’re still not as quality as other import models though, at a higher price. The issue isn’t the guitars. Like a year ago their max price of 899 (generally) worked really well for the quality. At this price I can get a Gibson, American fender, PRS SE or dangelico which will play better than the epi (maybe the epi will play better than the tribute Gibson…)
@@evanwyatt9971 all subjective. I see people all the time say “but you could get an LP tribute and have a Gibson.” That may be, I personally wouldn’t have one. And that’s totally just a preference. I can’t stand a carved top with no binding, but I digress. I don’t care what the headstock says, I don’t hear with my eyes. What a person thinks plays well is subjective. To say these won’t play as well as other imports without having played them is quite an assumption 🤔
True. That's not an Epiphone thing though. Not even just a general guitar thing. I think the same every time I go in a grocery store, or fuel my car, or look at any other prices. It's the world we're living in, guitar brands have to adjust their prices too. //Kris
Epiphone was never meant to be a budget brand in the first place and they weren't until Norlin ruined them that all ends in 2019 when JC Curliegh Restored Epiphone back to where they should have always been..
The original Epiphone NY Zephyr pickups were single coils but looked like mini HB. They all look great. I think the Sheraton and Zephyr will be very fast sellers. The solids are a great alternative to les pauls and SGs. They sound great.Does anyone know where these Guitars are being built?
Thanks for the review. Some nice adds over the standard Sheraton, one on order so we will see if it lives up to the cost. Still a bunch less than springing for a new or used Gibson 33X.
So sorry, these were our pre-release infos. You're right, the Sheraton has a laurel fretboard and the Zephyr has ebony. Thanks for the heads-up! //Kris
Man I can’t believe all of the complaining about Epiphone prices, remember Epiphone was a direct competitor to Gibson made in New York before it was bought by Gibson and then Gibson made it an inferior product, which I believe it never was until they decided to take it overseas for production. To me Epiphones were always really nice guitars that played well and sounded good and I love the fact that they are starting to make them like they should be made with great quality so stop complaining and happy that you can now purchase a very nice quality Epiphone
Hey, it looked flawless and the guitar felt like one that's much more expensive. Oh, and these guitars were not cherry-picked ones. We literally ordered them from stock, so these were random production models, just like ones people can buy. Cheers //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Probably going to wait for a good sale all the same...seems like no one is really even talking about them online and that they might not be selling well
That Zephyr Deluxe is spec'd exactly as the old Epiphone. That Zephyr made Gibson sweating bullets back in the day. So, is it overpriced? I think it's justified. Buy it, or just leave it.
Where's your buddy Guillaume? Did I pronounce and spell it right. Good playing Chris. Really love those pickups. Those two huge guitars made you look small, lol. Great lineup though.
First of all I think Epiphone pull trigger for turn back early 60s era. I liked Zephyr and Sheraton. Unfortunately I am not a Jazz player. But Sheraton may be good for me. If only I can get Sheraton. I bought 2012 model Epiphone Casino N/A and 2021 model Epiphone J200-CE VS model in past. They are still exist. I hope Epiphone EJ-160E turn back to stores one day. I wish Epiphone makes a good replica for Gibson Lucy Les Paul and Beano Les Paul. Then I wish I will have all Beatle Guitars. Now I have some complaint. Im living in Turkey. Think about this, normally 1959 Epi Les Paul around 900 Euros on Thomann, but in Turkey this is 37k Turkish Lira (around 1250 Euros) on these day. This guitars non-reachable on these days in Turkey this economic condition. And I think this 150th anniversay series is Limited Editions. When this series finish on stocks, minimum 200-300 Euros immediately will increased. Im also seaman which mean I can access many ports and since 5 months my all effort is buy Epi Lazarus Les Paul. Unfortunately there is not possible find new one. Still in Epi Web showing up as 900 Usd but on Reverb.com minimum 1000 Euros. Who can buy these guitars? Musk? Gates? This is not fairly!
I’ll look because they are interesting. If they had copied a 3 on a side headstock instead of the bat wing, would probably pay. Edit: Well, no. Not with the slim neck profile. Skinny and narrow necks ruined a lot of otherwise great ‘60s guitars.
Epiphone is a low-end brand of Gibson - to me it doesn't have enough name value to compete at these price points, especially when there are Reverend, Guild and others alike.
If they would have made an affordable anniversary Les Paul or Jr, I’d be all on it. These choices are the guitars I’m the least interested in and can’t even see myself wanting to even own one. Hard pass from me. 😢
Nice looking guitars but ridiculously priced. Who will pay that kind of money for a guitar made in China. Indian Laurel fingerboard in this price range? Come on. I think even the Gibson Tribute would be a better choice in this price range.
