    It's true that modern society is so caught up in ideology that they'll deny beauty over what they think it communicates socially/politically... almost as if beauty is inherently oppressive, or a threat to this modern ideological tradition. "The modernist puts a lot of ideological and philosophical reasoning behind every building." That quote is so accurate. It is like the tradition of egocentric ideological over-thinking put into practice in architecture. And the result ties into Michael's point on beauty regarding "readability." Our minds read ideological designs as chaotic, unrefined, and appeasing to ideas rather than to real principles of beauty.

    • @Usernameblank9891
      @Usernameblank9891 Рік тому

      Its not even society itself, its infiltration on academia. There's no way normal people would think those ways unless they were drowning in propaganda for decades. Some (((forces))) just want to make everything ugly, disfunctional, monotone, confusing, and chaotic as possible.

      Modern Architecture is true to some basic principles like:
      -Usability
      -Durability
      -multicode and flexibility
      -truth to materials
      -understandability
      -humanity
      So there are is a certain technical terminology. This counts for good architecture. Of course there are building around there, it doesn’t matter from which epoque, that are marginally even considered architecture (considering Enzo piano: liminal spaces and nonarchitecture).
      There are so many wonderful modernistic buildings that put the human in focus. The Bauhaus concluded the „Neufert“. There are so many great modern(ist) architects. I live in a modernist building. I love the light just pouring in.

      @M.A.K.666 most modernist buildings are objectively ugly from the exterior, barring a very few fringe opinions like yours. They are often objectively great looking in their interiors however, lots of sunlight in the design philosophy being the main reason
      But a traditionalist mindset and modernist interior principles dont have to be mutually exclusive. Traditionalism is simply a framework that tells you to respect the style and customs of a local culture, instead of utilizing the oppressively globalist modern styles like brutalism and modernism which seek to make every location look the same
      I also disagree with you lumping humanity into modernism. Modernism is very hostile to humanity, as its hostile to local culture. Anything globalist is hostile to humanity as humanity isnt a hive mind. individuality, uniqueness and cultural differences are what make humanity so special

    The Native American tee pee is my favorite architecture at the moment. You can have a nice fire in the center of it. Everybody inside sits in a circle so you can see everyone. You just set it up for the ceremony then you take it down in the morning. The way that sound and fire light play inside the tee pee is magnificent. I tend to think that we spent hundreds of thousands of years gathering together in structures like that. I think modern humans are desperate to relate to simple elements like fire or earth and to be surrounded by organic materials. I think humans are starved to see each other’s faces lit by fire light. Sitting on the ground in a tee pee all night supports a person in feeling like they are living on the earth and that their life is meaningful.

    We will be objected that beauty is very suggestive, for this reason I prefer to say that modern art most often lacks nobility and humanism in the sense that it most often does not trigger any emotion in us. It no longer elevates us, no longer transcends us.
    Here, in Europe and in France where I watch you and follow you on your excellent You-tube channel, we have the same kind of questioning about modernism and progressivism which have become a new religion that we are ordered to embrace under pain to pass for horrible conservatives with fascist overtones.
    It is a real dictatorship of the mind. We must destroy the old world and everything related to it. And beware of those who do not adhere to it; we will be excommunicated, ostracized and led to the scaffold as under the terror in 1793

      It is one element of the hypnotist's process , discombobulation of the past and of memory . But to what end ? The only way we are going to make it through this is if we understand that many people are actually insane , and use craziness as their "Mask of Sanity " -- where as most of us , are a little crazy , and putting on the mask of sanity allows us to communicate on a stable platform . My definition of fey , crazy , and insane are very helpful to think about this . Fey is when you make a farm land out of your mashed potatoes on your plate . Crazy is when you have potatoes , tell your table mate to look at the airplane , and steal his potatoes when he looks away . Insane , is when you take your plate of potatoes , and smash them on your head . Understanding how to recognize people with plates of food upside down on their heads , is where to start ,

    A good example for the cost effective approach to add on to the analogy that Michael used is smartphones.
    Smartphones range in cost depending on what you put inside them and what design you decide to go with.
    If you choose what is mainstream and normal all of the molds already exist, all of the punch designs already are programmed in at the factories, and assembly workers do not have to learn a new muscle memory movement to assemble your phone.
    Therefor most phone companies stick to very similar designs from others because if you choose to do otherwise you have to get all new molds, all new programming designs for the factory machines, and the assembly workers have to learn all new movements for their end; and in doing so that eats into your profit as you will have to pay more for say a 6 inch screen as opposed to +6.5 inch screen which is much cheaper due to so many other companies already ordering phones of that size from the manufacturers.
    Apple did the iPhone SE and people said hey we want more of that! And apple really didn't follow up on that, but Oppo, Google, and Asus did because the market demand is there which means the overall extra expenditure they will have to pay in manufacturing costs won't be as high because it is no longer just one company making a niche product but several making similar designs which means the manufacturers have less work to do in order to produce those sizes

Sure, they may be able to recognize beauty, but they are in no way capable of creating beauty. In order to produce beauty, you must have a genuine love for the human spirit. The problem in the industry in general is agreed upon by the general architect though: it's not the aesthetic ideology of the architect that is the biggest problem necessarily, it's the aesthetic wish, or rather, the economic profitability of the client that is the problem. 99 % of the time clients are genuinely moronic about any matter of architecture, and as long as you present options which have a clear difference in profitability, they're gonna pick the worst option regardless of function or aesthetics. Architects who wish to design beauty and harmony are locked by the client.

    • @michael.diamant
      @michael.diamant Рік тому +7

      Both clients and developers were as "moronic" and "greedy" in the past as now. What changed is that modernist architects promoted the idea that beauty is both subjective and not important. Fits developers like a hand in a glove and they use it fully. It also reduced the need for architects and thus modernists have undermined the whole profession.

    • @theawesomesausage

      @@michael.diamant True, but wouldn't the shift of cost also matter? Materials back in the day used to be the costliest part of building development, but (depending on where in the world) now the cost is more allocated to the workforce. Having people practice sculpting and manage ornamentation is costly for this reason.
      I'm asking because I am studying to become an architect. I want to engage in the traditional ways and develop it further.

    Believe me there is a reason why the messengers of Dystopia all work VERY hard at dressing and coiffing and sculpting their physiques to maintain serious contact with the masses . Beauty is a primary memetic connector , which can be used as a Trojan horse of content .

    One must always remember that the human brain is what is experiencing and filtering - and that the male mind is asymmetrical, and the female mind is symmetrical . So the male will actually become energized by symmetry , and the feminine will -- for example, more likely enjoy a male with his hair parted to the side , than down the middle, and a male will more likely enjoy a female with her hair parted down the middle . In my opinion , the male female conversation has been totally ruined during the last 100 years , and is the primary place of therapeutic healing that needs to be brought into EVERY conversation . If it is not , it will come into the conversation through the back door , or worse , through the chimney !
