    Im a man with borderline personality disorder, ptsd and bipolar disorder. I have worked jobs i have hated all my life. My first passion as a child was art and drawing but of course life and mental illness got in the way so i stopped drawing around age 8. Im now in my late 30s and finally in a position to learn how to paint. I still have a long way to go but its my dream to have my work in a gallery one day. I felt discouraged this morning but this video has brightened my morning up again. Your artwork is awesome. Thanks for the vid.

    It's so true that watercolor (and works on paper in general) are often held in less esteem than works on canvas or panel, and that's really unfair. We've seen so many excellent works on paper that took every bit as much time and ability to accomplish as oil or acrylic painting, we think it's time for collectors and galleries to finally end that bias!

      Thank you Blick! Glad I’m not alone in thinking this way 🤔 You have to be change you want to see in the art world! I’ve been in so many exhibitions that place higher value on canvas works (sigh) time for change 😁

    As an oil painter I value all painting mediums in the same way! I’m sorry that your medium faces artistic discrimination when it requires the same discipline and technical skills. Thank you for sharing your journey :)

    Your momma peeping through the door was super cute. It reminds me of my mom when I'm in a work call and that's the exact time she'll stop by asking me if I want coffee or tea or something. But I love it 😅

      I’ve done over 20 watercolour portraits and many landscapes over the past year so I have developed my skills to control the medium the way I want it to!! I usually have a vision in my mind of what I want to paint…I then paint from a variety of references and my imagination 🥰✨

    just out of curiosity, what did you use as a reference for the girl? Was it an original staged photo or did you happen to find it online and decide it was perfect for the piece? either way I love this 💕

    This is very pretty, I also wanted to stop the video and comment about something that is a bit of hang up for me and maybe some other potential viewers may also have. When I watch videos, I will often not watch an artist if I see any potential bad habits being practiced by the artist, for fear I may also take in the bad habit. I will try to move beyond this. But just wanted to mention at min 3:06 that it is hard for me to see watercolor artist leaving their brushes in cups of water. I'm sorry if I seem picky, but as someone who is trying develope good habits it's very hard to see others clearly demonstrating a lack of discipline themselves. Regardless I'm gonna post this and push play. Hoping I make it thru your video. Based on your apparent skill I think their must be some things I can learn that I can benefit from. But honestly, I want to think the person I'm learning from has advanced skills, or perspectives that I can also develope. And it's sort of a red flag when I see a lack of care for their supplies. Anyways, best to you and I hope this doesn't seem rude to you! Angry again, very pretty painting.

      @chantalleonhardt  Рік тому

      Omg thank you so much for sharing your perspective! I actually know this, but during that time I’m painting 3.06 I’m swapping brushes pretty much every stroke so I like to keep them in the water ready to go! Any longer period of time and yes they do need to come out otherwise the bristles will bend! Also can’t believe this work was done 7months ago 😮

    • @chantalleonhardt
      @chantalleonhardt  Рік тому

      Also I’m definitely not an advanced artist. I would say this is actually my first painting that I found my art style 😊

      I was JUST THINKING ABOUT YOU, & My response to your video. I am so relieved to hear my comment didnt upset you! Your painting is absolutely brilliant, and the video clips and content was well worth pushing thru my discomfort over your supplies! I would of said as much after viewing it... but my electronic skills are subpar and my device doesn't support me leaving a comment if I have the video playing. . Lol, so I actually worked very hard to leave the comment. Close UA-cam- reopen it, find video again, pause if if it auto plays...and button mash til it actually starts typing, it takes several minutes to do this. But, I felt compelled to do so(such a minor issue) ...as I said, it was a very lovely video! Just happy i didnt hurt your artist spirit! Many blessings and happy painting!

    Watercolour is absolutely NOT considered as "lower" than oil paint...wtf

    • @chantalleonhardt
      @chantalleonhardt  Рік тому +2

      Unfortunately so 😢 if you go to many art galleries and exhibitions they will place higher value on oil paintings than watercolour, at least in my and my friend’s experiences! Agreed it’s pretty shit!!
