Hello there. Thank you for sharing this method. The Tower looked Great. I'm going to give this a go next time I'm out. Sometimes going in with pen first can be a bit scary. Painting the shapes in first gives a more visual idea of how things are going. Paul from Suffolk. 👍
Thank you so much 💕 that's so lovely of you to say so. I definitely plan on doing at least a couple of urban sketching videos a month alongside other things. I have a loooong list of places I want to visit and sketch. How recently did you start? ❤️
This was very interesting to watch, I enjoyed hearing where you thought things started toget a bit wonky, and where you were enjoying it more. I would definitely watch more content along these lines!
Thank you so much Annette. 😊 There's definitely going to be plenty more videos like this one and have created a playlist dedicated to sketching. Thank you so much for watching. ❤️😊
i thought you were painting in the pub! Lol! Sounds like it would be fun! "Pub-painting"....It would probably look fantastic!.... until saw it the next morning! Lol!
I absolutely LOVE that you mention which particular colors you are using at each interval. It's very helpful to see which colors you use when and for what specific purpose (to tone down/ to accentuate/ to bring forward or push backward/ etc.) throughout the painting. Thank you for sharing your creative process! 🙏☺
Hello there. I can't wait to actually get out there and sketch on location. I just need it to stop constantly raining 😆 There's definitely going to be plenty more sketching around the Isle of Wight videos coming up on my channel. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words ❤️

It was an interesting technique and fun once I got my head around doing something backwards to how I usually work, and one that I am definitely going to practice further. Working on a new location which I am hoping to have ready for the weekend. Thank you so much for watching and for commenting. ❤️
It wasn't too bad when I left the house, but the closer we got to the coast, the colder and windy it got. There's a chocolate Apothecary near by luckily, where we defrosted and had a chilli hot chocolate 😊 Thank you so much for watching and for your comments. I hope you have a lovely day. ❤️

That's wonderful to hear 😊 Thank you so much for watching and for the comment. More is definitely on the way. Working on a new one right now that should hopefully be up for the weekend. ❤️
Cool. From an 'unimpressive' beginning to an impressive finish. It's all in the details, isn't it, in this particular piece. The old tower became alive at the end when you added all those little bumps and wrinkles. You see, even wrinkles have their place too in life. Seriously, I find it was the details at the end that made this drawing/painting appealing to the eye and mind. Good insights too. Thanks.
Hello Delores 😊 Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. There's going to be a whole playlist dedicated to sketching. I posted a new video this week where I sketched a thatched cottage. ❤️
Beautiful location and watercolour painting. I love that tower, it’s so unique and has such rich history - you can really see that in your painting too. And on a side note, Dave looks so cool in his little warm coat! 😍😍😍 x
He still needs a Foo Fighters hoodie 🤣 I love the Appley Tower. We're so lucky to have so many old and beautiful buildings on the island. I can't wait to get out and about to do some others. Once it stops raining 🤣 Thank you lovely lady ❤️
Ha, Dave would look awesome in a Foos Hoodie 😃🤩 I’ve always wanted to go into Appley Tower. I think they wanted to use it as an arts’ space once, which would have been lovely! But your watercolour definitely does it justice! I can’t wait for you to do some more watercolours from around the Island. Godshill would be idyllic 😍 x
Wow I saw the thumbnail and clicked on it because it reminded me of where I grew up, Ryde I.O.W. Many years ago I sat and drew that same building. I'm just getting back into traditional art and this video has truly touched my heart more than words can explain. Thank you.
Hey Anthony. I grew up in Ryde too. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the video. I'm planning on sketching many locations around the island. I recently just posted a video of Little Jane's cottage in Brading. Your comments have made my day. ❤️ Thank you so much for watching
I left the Isle of Wight when I was about 12 years old and I’m now in my 30s. You’ve inspired me to take a holiday and do some painting. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos :)
The technique with watercolor is much useful when you are on the go and can’t really stay for too long in one spot just to capture the colors and then going home to finish. It came out awesome thank you for sharing 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words. I did bring paints with me but the wind was blowing everything around too much, so I gave up, went for a hot chocolate and sketched at home 😆
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. There will be many more sketching around the Isle of Wight to come. I'm currently working on my next sketching video right now that should hopefully be up for the weekend. ❤️
Beautiful artwork of a place that holds special memories for the family ❤ definitely keep doing what you’re doing - the island has many treasures to explore 😘

What an interesting video Lynette not noticed this technique before it really does work really well, thanks greatly appreciate Lynette you sharing and explaining the method used and to see the amazing result
I LOVE this video. I've been struggling with keeping my work loose. I end up with way too much detail in the inking. You're so right when you say knowing when to stop with detail is the most difficult part. I can't wait to try this myself. I'm subscribing to your channel and can't wait to see more!!!
Hello Penny 😊 Welcome to my channel. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video. I always struggle with just adding that one more bit of detail. I find it helpful to ask if it is essential to the overall image or not. I hope you have fun giving this technique a go. Your cat in your profile picture is beautiful by the way 🥰 Thank you so much for watching, subscribing and for your kind words ❤️

I love this technique. I tried this recently, trying to get the basic color blocks down while there at the park. May or may not finish it but it was good learning experience. I would love to see more videos like this.
I hope you finish it and love the result. This was my first time trying it out and I have to say, I am hooked. There will be plenty more sketching videos like this on the horizon. I'm currently working on one that I am hoping to get up for the weekend. Thank you so much for watching and for your comments ❤️❤️
I think this came out rather well. At first I was a bit hesitant with the way you applied the watercolors, but that turned out very well indeed. To top it all off, I enjoyed the short tour of the place as well as the comments you made while painting and sketching. You asked if there was anything one could ask for while you are there I must admit I will most likely never get a chance to see this place so anything of interest you can sketch and paint I have a feeling I would enjoy seeing. If you do sketch something else I would appreciate getting a short history of what it is you are sketching and just where it is so others who can go there can find the place(s) sketched. Thank you for this. I did enjoy it. I think I will even hit the subscribe button. Have a great year this year. Stay safe and healthy wherever you may go. -OkieSketcher1949😊
Hello Robert. Welcome to the channel. I was incredibly hesitant too when I began. This technique is the opposite way I usually work, but I really enjoyed the challenge and how it changed the way I observed what I was painting. I really appreciate your input. I have a long list of 30+ possible locations that I intend to sketch around the Isle of Wight. I just need it to stop raining constantly so I can do so 😆 I love buildings and landmarks that are steeped in history, luckily they are in abundance where I live. I was honestly a little worried about talking too much about the location but after your insight, I won't hold back on that in the future. Thank you so much for watching and for your valuable comments. Have a wonderful day ❤️
Hi! This just popped up on my feed… I loved it :) First video of yours I’ve seen and subbed right away, lol. I love these kinds of videos, yes to see the art evolve, but more to hear the thoughts, the behind the scenes thinking that goes into an artist’s process. As an artist & designer myself, I have a lot of the same thoughts and struggles as others do and it’s a HUGE help to the old mental health balance to hear you’re not the only one who feels this way or has these thoughts. We can be told that repeatedly but hearing it organically happen from someone is the most help. I really liked the recorded voiceover- very clear and allows the artwork to evolve underneath… nice detail shots too… getting up close to see mark choices and such is really lovely. Keep on art-ing please!
Hello there 😊 Welcome to the channel. ❤️ Thank you so much for watching, subscribing and for your kind words. It's really comforting to hear that I am not alone with the self doubt and critical inner monologue thing. 😆 I want to be honest with my videos and reading that it's helpful to others, I will continue to do so. What kind of art do you create? ❤️
I loved your video. Please, please do more. You did a wonderful job of inspiring us to be kind and not too judgmental of ourselves as we sketch. I'm a perfectionist and really struggle with being loose and free. Thank you for sharing your small struggles.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. There's definitely more videos like this one on the way. Working on one now that should hopefully be up for the weekend. ❤️

2023. 04.13 love this! Totally enjoy the history and location descriptions. Travel on paper vicariously through your eyes. Thank you for being brave and showing a process that is outside your comfort zone as it where. Beautiful result! Excited to try putting the paint down loosely and then sketching in detail. You brought this landmark to life on paper. ❤
I really loved your video! I couldn’t believe how painting rough colors in allowed you to complete a work that turned out so beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Loved the video. Surprised it was on the Isle of Wight. My Aunt lived there for a number of years in the 70’s and I stayed there several times. Loved it 😊 Loved ur video and the style of painting. Thank u so much❤❤🏴🇨🇦
Hello there Linda ☺️ I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the video, there's definitely going to be plenty more sketching around the Isle of Wight videos coming up on my channel. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words ❤️
Great piece of art. The large clump of grasses on the left balances the tree on the right which brings my eye to follow the left side of the tower back to the left clump of grasses, there I rest and start exploring the tower. I enjoyed the journey of traveling through your painting. Thank you for bringing me along with you❤😊
Hello Jeannette. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. I thoroughly enjoyed making it. ❤️
It turned out beautiful. I'm not sure I could do this. I like everything mapped out. I also would have given up early on. You clearly show that building up the layers with the details brings the picture to life. I'm just going to start with watercolours so I will eventually try this technique. Please do more!
A gentle, soft touch of watercolor is here. So nice to watch the process step by step. Yes, reversed technique is new to me, interesting & convincing as shown here! Keep it up to show us more!!

It's really good, Lynette. This type of video is fascinating. As you say, our Island has so many beautiful spots for urban sketching. I am an absolute beginner, so this has really helped me with some confidence. Seeing how the whole process works is brilliant. Yes, please! More!

Totally awesome, I’ve never seen this type of work. Really enjoyed your process, thank you.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video. ❤️
Thank you for very interesting and great time
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video. ❤️
Your cat in your profile picture is beautiful by the way 🥰
Thank you so much for watching, subscribing and for your kind words ❤️
I absolutely love this technique, what a great exercise in working loosely, very impressionistic. Fantastic! Please do more like this.
Hello Bonnie 😊 There's definitely going to be plenty more sketching around the Isle of Wight videos coming up on the channel. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words ❤️
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for-thank you!!! And I’d absolutely adore seeing more of the Isle of Wight! 😍
Hello Bronwyn 😊 There's definitely going to be plenty more sketching around the Isle of Wight videos coming up on my channel. Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comments. ❤️
I grew up in Ryde, really miss this place. Amazing sketch and painting thank you for sharing. Kind regards.
I like how you are using a sketchbook for what it is intended for: learning.
Hello Kaitlyn ☺️ This was definitely an education, my first time doing any urban sketching for at least 10 years.
Thank you so much for watching ❤️
I just need it to stop raining constantly so I can do so 😆
I love buildings and landmarks that are steeped in history, luckily they are in abundance where I live. I was honestly a little worried about talking too much about the location but after your insight, I won't hold back on that in the future.
Thank you so much for watching and for your valuable comments. Have a wonderful day ❤️
Yes please make more of the paint first and draw later I think it’s a brilliant way of urban sketching. Thankyou its quite stunning. More please
I want to be honest with my videos and reading that it's helpful to others, I will continue to do so.

I loved your video. Please, please do more. You did a wonderful job of inspiring us to be kind and not too judgmental of ourselves as we sketch. I'm a perfectionist and really struggle with being loose and free. Thank you for sharing your small struggles.

2023. 04.13 love this! ❤
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. It's really appreciated ❤️
I really loved your video! I couldn’t believe how painting rough colors in allowed you to complete a work that turned out so beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
I love the way you have created the Appley Tower, im new to any type of painting and really like this style.....so it's a more from me :)
Loved the video. Surprised it was on the Isle of Wight. My Aunt lived there for a number of years in the 70’s and I stayed there several times. Loved it 😊
Loved ur video and the style of painting. Thank u so much❤❤🏴🇨🇦
This piece turned out lovely, Kendra! Very nice. I really like the idea of laying the paint down first and then sketching after. Fun stuff!
I enjoyed this, nice change from the usual watercolor painting video. Thanks!
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words ❤️
I sure want to try this, great video
I hope you have fun with it. ❤️
Thank you so much for watching 😊

Nice job. I love how that sky came out. Just the right amount of sky. Something ill keep in mind. Overall it all came out nice.
Amazing, thanks for sharing this masterpiece work!
Hello Josue.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words ❤️ There's definitely going to be plenty more sketching videos coming up on my channel with a playlist dedicated to it.
Thank you for showing how to loosen up when painting. Cute dog too. I love the IofW.
This turned out great! I want to try this technique myself. Keep up the great work!

It's really good, Lynette. This type of video is fascinating. As you say, our Island has so many beautiful spots for urban sketching. I am an absolute beginner, so this has really helped me with some confidence. Seeing how the whole process works is brilliant.
Yes, please! More!
Ah a fellow Islander. 🙂 Hello Paul.
We are incredibly lucky to live in a place as beautiful as the Isle of Wight.
There's definitely going to be plenty more sketching around the Island videos coming up. So far I have a list of 30+ possible locations, it just needs to stop raining so much, so that I can start visiting some of them. 😆
