One of my favorite bands. I saw their 2nd ever show-Sept. 5, 2019-and will see them at Budokan very soon (and quite a few times between). They've come a long way in a short time. Re "Odyssey", music/lyrics by a big-name song-writer and producer, Ryosuke Imai. He's probably best known for his work with J-Pop superstar Namie Amuro, especially her song "Hero". He saw Nemophila at the Aftershock Fest in Sacramento in 2022 and liked their sound. Arrangement by Nemophila's usual collaborator Kensuke Akiyama. Imai explained that the song title "Odyssey" evokes the epic poem of that name from ancient Greece. Just as the protagonist Odysseus experienced a life-transforming journey, so the trajectory a band follows or any human relationship follows-lovers, husband/wife, parent/child-is a transformational journey. This is a publicity "campaign song" for an anime movie entitled "Oshiri Tantei", which literally means "Detective Butt". There's love in the lyrics, which may pertain to the movie, which has a sort of romantic plot-line (despite its title), but the lyrics stand on their own. Vocalist Mayu said she was thinking of her baby boy when she recorded this, as he was ill at the time. Guitarist Saki (viewer's right) said she was channeling Brian May for some of the counter-melody in the chorus.
As for the English lyrics you were asking for, there's an accurate Japanese version of the lyrics available, but no official English translation that I'm aware of. I know Japanese and can tell you the Japanese lyrics are quite well-written and poignant, and reflect what Ryosuke Imai says above, but I don't have time to do a translation so I'll give the GT version. Believe me, this English does not do justice to the original Japanese, but It'll give you an idea of what Mayu is singing about. "Suffocating hardship made me lower my gaze. Today I held my breath because I wanted to forget even what I believed Things we can't understand, a time full of contradictions Because I can't look back anymore The feeling that I loved you to death There can't be any, that's how I felt If I touch you now, I'll know what it means Tears, smile, pain, hatred, all the love welling up I guess this is called forever I spoke to you with a gentle voice, as you chased your dreams and broke them I feel small that I was a little proud of myself for not giving up I was able to say that it's okay if we don't understand each other Absolute proof that I was too young If I can't reach you, life isn't worth living Because I think so now f I touch you now, I'll know what it means Tears, smile, pain, hatred, all the love welling up This will lead to the future The pain in my chest, this will lead to the future I'm sure it will arrive The feeling that I loved you to death There can't be any, that's how I felt If I touch you now, I'll know what it means Tears, smile, pain, hatred, all the love welling up I guess this is called forever Even while facing loneliness, someday Even if it's a little selfish We walk the same path."
When you put these 5 girls together with this kind of talent......they can absolutely play anything and nail it !!!!!!! Thanks for for not freaking out that it was a ballad.....it was written for a movie. But what show piece for Mayu voice.....absolutely beautiful......Saki's lead guitar riffs gorgeous and Tamu's drumming was so tasteful !!!!!!! Wanna my fav's from our girls !!!!!!! Wait till you hear their new one Ama Te Ras.... you better buckle up tight for it !!!!!
You hit it in this one 90’s ballad all day long! I’m actually traveling to Japan this week to attend their largest ever concert at Budokan so I’m stoked. You def can’t put them in a box as they will always surprise you with something as soon as you start assuming you know what’s next. Picking any of their live songs on their channel should be good, as far as some of their more out of the box songs you can try Style, Hypnosis, Monsters or AMA Te Ras for starters.
The song was commissioned for a Japanese cartoon series. Therefore it is not a typical Nemophila song but it shows what the band can do and how fantastic the musicians are. I'm glad you like it. The band members also do cover songs from time to time just for the fun of it. P.S. I recommend "ADABANA" next. The song is great, has English subtitles and great lyrics.
Perfect musicianship indeed on this one. Everyone massively contributes (without any overplaying whatsoever), but leaves the spotlight for Mayu. On a power ballad, that's how it _should_ be...but not all bands have that kind of artistic maturity. This band never misses.
You are 100 percent correct! Nemophila cannot be put in a box. they can and do play anything. But majority of their songs are heavy but they do have about 4 all together ballads. Life is an amazing song off the first album along with Game Over is another one that is underrated and has great duel solos and harmonizing just like Now I Here off the second album. But most their stuff is metal/hard rock.
nice bro! I guess a lot of people have told you how diverse nemophila is😉, there are so many different genres in their music, I recommend 《ama-te-ras》 as the next!🤘🏻🌸🤘🏻
I think yo have fond memories of the past.....those ballads were not nearly as good as what these girls just put out......this was an absolute MASERPIECE !!!!!
If it's an American accent its Neemo phila. The band and everyone else says Neh-mophila. You can check out any of their interviews and you will hear the ladies say Neh-mophila. mainly in their case because Japanese have an "eh" sound with the "e" As in fellow metal band Hanabi(eh) When I saw them in Japan Mayu was talking with Saki and she said Neemophila. Then she corrected herself and repeated Neh-mophila then laughed. She then said Neemophila Americano. I'm sure its fine for the US accent version but if you want the bands version its (Neh)mophila. Their Official live YT of "OIRAN" at NAON YAON 2021 has them introduced as Neh-mophila by "Kieko Terada", legendary lead singer of 1980's Japanese metals first big all lady band SHOW YA.

Showcase Mayus heart melting vocals..Nemophila Queens own any genre they feel like playing..
NEMOPHILA's genre is MUSIC

Mayu and Tamu the prettiest and hottest metal moms around
You have to do Dissension. You won't be disappointed 🤘
🇯🇵ネモフィラ、ありがとうございます!
Nemophila's like a box of chocolates... no matter what you get, it's delicious.

Awesome again 😊. Try the band Butcher Babies with the song Red Thunder. Greetings metal Raven
Nemophila with the power ballad…. They continue to impress.
Such a beautiful song that shows another side of this great band. An excellent power ballad, powerful vocals.
Ama Te Ras, Zen, Revive, Oiran, and Sieze the Fate, plus other's all have official live video.
😏♥️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘
This song has a November Rain feel for me. Which is, in most peoples opinion, minimum top 3 all time rock ballads.

This band never misses.
Great reaction, this song leaves me speechless. Once you get to know Nemophila better, for diversity, check out their Banana song.
This is beautiful in every way. Mayu has never looked better.
nice
That was brilliant, loved the change of key at the end.
This one took me back to 80s!
From the set, the filter, and the HAIR!
Crazy thing is, I probably wouldn't have liked it back then, but I do now!
