In his autobiography, 'You Never Know', Tom Selleck said the pitch for Thomas Magnum was "...someone who'd hit the pause button on their career because they'd woken up at thirty-three and realised they never been twenty-three". This direct reference to the Vietnam War, and the then still current American collective nightmare of conscription, is why the series is so hard to replicate.
I have vague memories of this when I was young as it was part of my family's regular viewing. A few of the content creators I follow have covered Magnum PI relatively recently. While I could have described to someone the plot of the show, until being reminded of it I probably would have described the tone as more serious. This is one of those shows that defined the culture of that generation
Thank you i have learned something new. I always thought a private detective and private investigator were the same thing until I looked it up due to your comment.
@@DoubleReelTV My post was a paraphrasing from the pilot episode of "Magnum P.I." Magnum encounters Lt. Ski, who is working guard detail at one of the gates at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. ua-cam.com/video/stXvMZ1JJAo/v-deo.htmlsi=2cNrPql1zADBQ_jb Time stamp 5:57
hey thanks for magnum pi.my mum's favorite & i watched magnum pi when i was little.say can you hint like Simon and Simon, airwolf if didn't hint yet & also wise guy.thanks
Thank you for watching and for the suggestions. Simon and Simon and Wise Guy are on my list of videos to make. The History of Airwolf is on the channel along with, Knight Rider, The A-Team and Streethawk
The modern remakes don't bother me, except they have the exact same name, so I can't tell if it's the original or a remake in the tv guide. (e.g. Charmed, The Equalizer, MacGuyver etc.)
The 2018 show just wasn't as good. It was a good attempt but had too many characters, it never felt that it focused too much on the main character, but I only watched several episodes, not all of them, so I could be wrong.

It was a great show. I watched all 158 episodes.
The Car is what sold Me on Magnum P.I., and the scenery as a kid.
Same here the Theme, The Ferrari and the scenery got me as a kid.
Hint for a video: Simon & Simon (a show that had a cross-over episode with Magnum P.I.).
Thank you for the suggestion, ill add it to my shortlist of videos to make
The OG Magnum PI is the best 👍👍👍💯💯💯
In the same universe as Murder, She Wrote and Simon & Simon.

Greatly enjoy this series, hope your channel takes off
Thank you
That show was great
Magnum was not a detective. He was an investigator, a private investigator.
