  • Spain's real estate boom a few years back has left it with a surplus of vacant housing. At that time, it was trendy to invest in real estate. Now, the unused accommodation is giving rise to a whole new squatter scene.

    I see three problems here:
    1. The irresponsible inaction of the local, state and federal governments.
    2. The fact that banks can leave apartments vacant for so long.
    3. That the dude in the video has his ass up all day, meanwhile his disabled wife has to put food on the table. And then he has the audacity to say that he can't let his wife sleep on the street.

    That....doesn't make any sense... The owner wasn't allowed to force his way into his OWN property that HE owned? I would have kicked that door down and chased those people out. So many Southern European countries have such backwards laws and horrible economies and when you hear stories like this it begins to make sense why.

      I never understood this law in Spain either. In a normal situation this is called breaking and entering and it's a crime. In Spain it's totally okay to just steal someone else's private property. Totally insane.

      The rights of the criminals are more important than private property in Spain.

      If you try to break in while there they will attack you and if police comes, police arrests YOU.

    The fact that you have around 10 more dislikes to one like shows what people think about this. It doesn't matter who you are or in what states you are if you live in a country where you can work you cannot steal someone's house.

    What I know is the proper way is you need to have your bill of payment and mortgage papers property papers to prove that you’re the owner of the house then you can go to the police the police gives the squatters. To move out I think 48 hours mainly but it’s not difficult it’s just paperwork and don’t leave your paperwork in Spain in your house but put it in a bowl’s in a bank office so you can get to it all the time.

      It’s still ridiculous! Really stupid laws. You go to holidays for one week come back and all your stuff is gone and someone is living inside your flat and you are homeless! Perfect country!

    This is an organized way to live for free, but most homeless people can't find this opportunity, so it is sad to see young people living on the streets. Maybe eventually they will figure it out, but I know it is different for every person! So good luck to all who are down on their luck. have fun, Spain is great for outdoor activities! Peace!

    I'm Spanish and I don't think the problem is as big as they put it in this video. There's a lot of empty houses owned by banks and people occupy them, so what? I much rather live next to an occupied house than an empty one. The last case where it's owned by someone is much less common and yeah, there should be a law to protect that.

    • @IPOCRI
      @IPOCRI 6 років тому +12

      yea but some people not only live in there. They steal valuable things over night and they treat that house like garbage, break stuff, shit on the floor, vomit on the bed...

      You know what is the problem ?? You can't get I side the property of other people and just live there. That's totally illegal. If you owned a house try to go to a long vacation and when you come back there's some people occupying your house, how would you feel about it????
