As well as reviewing drawing tablets, monitor arms and doing some fun drawing on the iPad, I like to seek out those small accessories that I know will be useful in the everyday life of my fellow illustrators, animators and creatives. That's why I want to show you the PNY Portable SSD.
This portable hard drive is smaller than a credit card and is amazingly robust. A great piece of tech for any artist who needs to take all of their essential files with them on the road. It also makes life easier when transferring files between PC, Mac, Laptops and iPads too. This USB-C drive is so much more efficient for your artistic life than uploading and downloading your art over WiFi.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments bellow.
Until next time, keep on creating!
    Lawrence.

*Edit/Update:* Found a teardown elsewhere. Internally, these are just like a flash drive. They contain *NO* M2 SSD, and are *NOT* moddable/shuckable. After discovering that just now, I think referring to these as _SSDs_ is somewhat misleading. :-(
I came here expecting a teardown of this after searching for that sort of video in Google, so a little disappointed not to see whether the internals are an NVME M2 SSD or just a bunch of NAND chips hooked-up to the bog-standard ChipsBnk controller PNY tend to use in their (Consumer) products.
Personally, I can't say my experience of PNY has been particularly great - Having had to return a whole batch of Attaché drives to Currys after it turned out they were clearly useless for all intents and purposes (I mean; 130Kbps over USB 2?!?). I guess product quality will vary and in fairness I don't think I've ever experienced data _loss_ from a PNY product, but I certainly can't rate them anywhere near WD/SanDisk or Seagate/Samsung in terms of performance and reliability.
Cheers for the great review, though! Still handy to see exactly what you get in the box and just how small it really is! :-)

I'm wondering how reliable these are or how long they will last. I'm guessing it depends on how many times you write to them? No clue. Will they last as long as a traditional compact disc ?

if it's not usb-c it looses all it's value. it's just outdated hardware. any brand that uses micro usb still is sinful.

Why? We still use USB-A for s lot of devices too. I am largely in agreement with you but the USB-C ONLY camp only cuts down YOUR options and was probably given to us as a marketing line by companies wanting to sell new tech when it isn't 100% necessary (I've worked in Marketing long enough to know that happens - 20+ years).USB-C is needed when you need super high transfer or (mostly) power requirements but for a small portable drive like this then Micro is still a viable option. +PNY have just released a new V2 of this that I think utilises USB-C so if you feel you need that then go for it. But you can check the comparative speed rates and see if you think it's worth any extra cosst.

it's for a ssd. unless it's dated tech there is no reason to use micro 3.0, I think usb-a or usb-b are fine choices. but usb micro-3.0 is just a bad port design. it is mocking us. it has backwards compatibility with regular micro which is completely useless since with a device like and ssd you will never use it with a micro cable that can't do 3.0 speed. which aren't even that fast now days. I removed my harddrive and am only using a new ssd... I don't want slow transfer speed. and on top of that. the new tech is superior, usb-c are much more durable. I already have a few. and I still haven't had any issues with breaking a usb-c device, but I bulk buy micro cords because they just suck. I have over 5 cords that are broken at this very moment. using micro connectors. it's not helpful. to be fair I've never broken a regular usb-a or usb-b port (think printer cable it's huge and bulky not meant for an ssd)
