How have I never heard about this band before?!?! I'm 42 years old! Been listening to rock and metal music since I was 7 years old! This song... They’ve never really gained the success they’ve deserved here in their home country (England). I’ve been following them pretty much since the beginning and the early albums are melodic rock masterpieces. There’s tons of music out there like these, but it kind of went underground a bit. Loads of bands from the 90’s like Von Groove, Gotthard, Newman, Harem Scarem… and post 00’s bands like H.e.a.t., Vega, White Widdow, Eclipse, Midnite City … so many more it’s crazy.
All brilliant if you like quality catchy rock!
There are two fairly modern tracks I would instantly listen to next. Dragon and St George, then the ballad Hourglass and Landslide.
Half of my life with the company of the songs of Gary and his band.... Thanks for those moments. And about this.... this is a Masterpiece, I really love this song.
This is a beautiful song with a wonderful hookline. So many bands sadly lost the ability to write great songs. Ten is not among those.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Hughes is possibly the only baritone singer in hard rock. Most hard rock singers are tenors or counter-tenors. Very unusual to have such a low-pitched lead vocalist, but it makes them unique.
Yes, baritones are rare in rock and metal in general, though some do a good job at hiding it (Geoff Tate from Queensrÿche comes to mind). That said, Gary used to push himself a lot more on the early Ten records. I get that he might not want to overdo it anymore - but rather write the songs in a way he can sing them live on tour without having to pitch them down.
However, as a result, the songs will get lower and lower as the band ages. Gary has always gone up right to his passagio, but never really beyond (except in a few songs where he uses pinched falsetto). If you listen to Power Metal singers, some of whom are baritones, too (like Chris Bay from Freedom Call), they bridge early, so that it’s hard to tell where their chest voice ends and there head voice starts. Gary always bridged late, or not at all. And the downside of that is, as you get older, your passagio shifts downward.
So even though Gary’s voice still sounds healthy (in contrast to a lot of those hard rock “tenors” who screamed their voice to shreds), the songs simply sound less energetic, because with his approach / technique, he has to go lower and lower.

This song sounds ok.. pretty good… keep making songs like Albion borne.. raven’s eye heaven and the holier than thou …(many more) that challenge the listener… this song is a bit pop/rock and easy to listen to … but Gary is a good songwriter ..hope the rest of the album shows a bit more temper 🫢😍

My origin on playing in rock bands were listening to Morbid Angel, Carcass, Napalm Death... but since child, on my TV I listened AOR bands like Survivor, Journey, Phenomena, and many others. Eclectic person. So, if you don't like that kind of masterpieces, don't comment anything, be a good boy and get out!!!! 🤘👍
