  • In this video, I take a look at a few on camera field monitors. Specifically the Zhiyun-Tech TransMount 5.5', the Atomos Shinobi, FeelWorld F6 Plus (now discontinued). I briefly touch on the differences between the Atomos Ninja V and the Shinobi. I take a look at the different features on each, including focus peaking, false colors, waveform, scopes, zebras. Also I give my opinion on overall ease of use.

      Consider a Feelworld LUT 6, it's a brightness powerhouse 2600nit and also much more convenient size (just a tad larger then f6+ which is perfect) ! But the price is 1.5x to 2x of f6+

    This is the first time I seen someone do the screen reflection which is extremely important for outdoors shooting. Props for showing real world comparison. Definitely helps seeing them side by side. I would of like to see latency between the camera and monitor, also how long it takes to power up and down.

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  2 роки тому

      It's important for sure! To power down the Ninja, you have to hold the button for WAY too long. Other thaan that I love it!

    So far this has been the best video for these monitors. I do wish that you went a little more in depth on the focus peaking on the Feelworld. I've rented the Ninja V a few times and love the focus peaking, I'd buy the Shinobi, but it doesn't have the HDMI out, which is huge for me as I do interviews and having a 24" monitor connected makes the art director happy. Regardless, I'd love to hear your opinion on the FeelWorld's focus peaking. Does it have different intensity settings for that like the Ninja or Shinobi? Thanks bro!

      Hey Scott! I can't say for sure on the FW monitor, they switched models in the timeframe I was working on this video. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much. You may try calling B&H and talking to a rep there who can hopefully do a hands on Q&A with you.

    Is there a way to use touch focus (for the lens to focus where you tap) on the Atomos screen? Liked for example tap the Atomos screen and have the lens focus where I tap, like it would if I tapped (with touch focus on) wherever I touch on the a7siii monitor?

    • @rynfilms

      None that I'm aware of. It would be an awesome feature though.

    have you tried the smallhd focus 5? It has 1000 nits, i believe the same as the atomos and i cannot see it at all outdoors. cant focus or get exposure right. I need something brighter but only see the freeworld over 2000 nits for under $750

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  3 роки тому

      I haven't used the SmallHD. I have a sunhood for the Ninja when I'm using it outside, it helps out a lot!

    Are you able to hide the menu settings of the Atomos monitors just to have the bmpcc menu settings on the screen of the monitor?

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  3 роки тому

      Yes, it's somewhere in the HDMI output menu on the BM. I forget exactly where, but it's there. 👍

    Great Review. I still haven't pulled the trigger on a monitor, I keep using my iphone as a monitor which isn't ideal, but at least I can see if I'm in frame... I guess i can't cheap out..

    Do you actually need a sunshade for the Shinobi or is bright enough outdoors without a shade? thanks

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 роки тому

      Like many things, it depends. The sunshade is a huge help, but not necessary. If you're shooting outside a lot, get one. If you're only outside from time to time, it may not be worth it. I went without one for a while, but after using it I don't think I could go back to not using it.

      @@rynfilms Would you say the Shinobi (without shade and in sunlight) is brighter than a camera screen? I know the visibility would be better do to the larger size - but am curious if it the Shinobi is also brighter. I use a Sony A6500 that is notoriously hard to view in bright light. Ideally I would like to not have to use a shade. By the way enjoyed your video on this topic

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 роки тому

      @UC8r50zJoyGZYHs0xnok3Ql%E2%9E%A1w Absolutely brighter! It is so much easier to see in the daylight than the back of a camera.

      Uhmmm it's 599 on B&H. And probably an extra 100-200 dollars on an SSD. We're talking $700 - $800 usd. You can buy a sick 35mm anamorphic cine lens from SIRUI for that price.
