For my money, Isham Jones had the finest white outfit of the pre-Swing Era -- in any case, it's my favourite in this category. On glorious display here is the crew's easily identifiable sound, a prominent feature of which being the use of brass bass -- in a period in which many bands were eschewing the more cumbersome instrument in favour of the string bass. Dating to 1914, this sentimental song deservedly retained its bucolic appeal for decades.
