The one thing I love the most about this video is when you realized you needed to undo the stitches for the rain covers, you just did it. No hesitation on if it would get messed up or try to work around it, you just went all in and THAT is the awesome part. I think I lot of people would look at it and say "I already did that stitching, so it's done and I'm not touching it. I think being able to pull stuff apart, especially stuff you are creating, is the key to customization and truly wonderful works. Nice design!
😃
Can't understand why Tandy has not yet sponsored you....terrific work, as always. Congrats (again)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen Tandy sponsor anyone. Perhaps this explains why all of their ideas are outdated and far from fresh, new or inspiring. This would be a good start.
It is so cute when you are carrying your baby around when doing crafts. You must be a super mom.
Best part of having this beautiful bag is when people ask "Where did you get that amazing bag?!"......Made it myself !!!!!!!! AWESOME
Exactly! :)
Thanks for not only making a great bag, but finally teaching me how to pronounce the name of that Swedish backpack correctly!
Haha!
Do you have a template for this?
Nice backpack
I love that you don't have it completely figured out and improvise a bit along the way. It's beautiful!
That is beautiful! Making stuff like this yourself is the best...unique and totally your own. I've gotta do more leather work myself ;-)
It's so much fun with leather working and opens up a whole new world!
i just cant do the patches thing. nothing beats the look of simple plain leather. no question
Thank you so much for this video. I have a waxed canvas backpack that I have taken with me around the world traveling. It has seen a lot and been through a lot and is on its last leg of life. I already have leather I purchased to recreate this same bag but have lacked the courage to jump in and start this project. I believe I’ve just found the best video for me to attempt this pride to. Thank you so much 😊
That's looks really great 😍😘😍😍😘😍😘😍😍😘😍😘😍😍😘😍😍😘😍 I'll try to make one. looks Awesome
Darbin that was Fabulous, Me and My Daughter absolutely loved this, Thank you for Sharing : )
Dad and Grace,
( Toronto )
just found your channel. Loving your work. hitting subscribe in 3....2.....1.....****
Great stuff Darbin. As a side note: I think you sound a bit like an older version of Luna Lovegood, from Harry Potter. ;)
It's funny; I've had the bug to start working with leather for a few months now (it was something my late dad loved doing) and now I keep seeing you doing all this amazing leather stuff... This bag is gorgeous and I'm super motivated now to try to do something with leather myself! Nice work!
Great to hear Vincent!
Back pack is great!
there are some good leather making channels on UTube, but I do find double sided sticky tape really great to hold leather in place when I am stitching I also find hand stitching I lot easier, must admit though machining is much easier, I certainly very impressed with your bag. Cheers Cheryl
Thanks Cheryl! I agree, using the double sided sticky tape is really great at times.
I super love this project! Great job. I also love your videos.
I REALLY want to make this...did you ever post the type of leather you used?? Also, did you ever make a pattern for the backpack?
Wonderful!!! I luv your ‘can do’ attitude and creative drive!! I’ve been doing leather work for about 6 months now and have been wanting to do a backpack... thnx for the inspiration!!!
Beautiful Design & Diligent Awesome Craftsmanship! 😆 What is the Brand name of that small Ruler, you were using please? Thanks A Million! 👑
Oregon has it's fair share of rain. I would have treated the leather with some sort of oil/wax waterproofing to avoid saturation if you are caught in heavy weather. Once the patches are on it's too late. It possible to Scotchgard the patches after the fact, but what's underneath is untreated. Don't get me wrong I like patches too. I sewed on a large loop panel onto my canvas bag so I could add lots of velcro backed patches and swap them out as I choose. It's true you can have a lot of patches, but I find all at once is overwhelming. One day I might make a leather back pack like yours. It's really nice to know it's truly yours on a level that money and market can't touch. There are a lot of such things for sale on Etsy, and you're right they cost a lot. Thanks for the video.
Hi, Im wondering how thick the leather is that you are using? When you buy the leather, how many squaremeter is the cheet?
Thank you in advance!
I have like an embarrassing amount of patches! And yeah Oregon my home state! This is an inspection of a video!
A question aimed at leather workers.. I was taught to use a picking iron and a harness awl to make the markings/holes for my stitches. Is the tool you're using in this video a different tool than a picking iron and why would you use this instead? Thanks to anyone who can help.
Awesome backpack. How much you think you spent on leather? Thanks
Darbin vc ê sensacional. Como está seu Baby? Vc conhece o Brasil?
have you tried walking foot for your sewing machine, converts a sewing machine for leather working
Where do you get your leather from, how many oz is it and how many square feet is it?
Thanks.
Great work........ I recommend you buckstitch.
The only thing more beautiful than that backpack is your baby!
Good Video. Great detail. Thanks for sharing. Paz
Hand sewn Backpack is one of the best things you can have ! it is worth the work ! =)
Hi, very nice job, your bag looks cool. Where do you get the leather from ?
That is awesome! I've been playing with leather work and hand tooling. I haven't put a video up yet, just a few IG posts but I think I will post one near the end of April. Great work Lin!!
It's a lot of fun and opens up a lot of possibilities!
learnt a lot...from India with much love
I'm all man but I would like to see baby videos. I dig babies.
Where do you get all your leather. I can’t find any in my area. Other then really thick like saddle leather.
Very functional, this looks great! I love it!
I like the hammer/mallet you are using, did you make it yourself Linn?
How heavy is the bag? Leather is heavier than other materials. My guess is 2 lbs.
Nice. I hope you put a date on everything you create. Way in the future you will appreciate that.
great bag, im making one also out of 8oz leather, sooo hard to hand sew, looking for ideas for closer
I'm new to this is there a reason you hand drill the dots to stitch compared to using a machine to sow.?
Nice work definitely buy one to collect patch from all over the world
Buen trabajo, muy original.
it would be an amazing gift i loved it
Awesome!! Been flirting with the idea of making my own bag.. very inspirational 💪🏽🙌🏽❤️ Props from NYC
All of the leather bags I have seen have the side sewn on differently. The edges are sewn facing the same direction so that the bow goes inside under the flap versus how you have it that pushes the bow outwards. It is hard to explain but looking at leather bags you may see what I am talking about. You can see what I am talking about on this bag (www.saddlebackleather.com/leather-briefcase). I do like the solution you came up with. It looks pretty cool and definitely not something you would find elsewhere.
Great project! Great backpack! Jag har länge följt dina projekt med stort intresse. Gillar det du gör!
Vad kul att höra!
Any advice for a beginner as far as where to buy tools and all.
Terrible background music lol
Love your back pack! How thick is the leather?
I love this bag
Muy bonita,enhorabuena Darbin!!
What kind of leather and weight are you using?
Fantastic. Inspiration for me to get some leather and start learning
do you think this would work with a thinner leather like goat or sheep leather?
Your back pack looks Amazing! I definitely want to make this! GOOD JOB!
You have a new subbie , loved this video, did you use a normal needle to do that
I'm from Brazil and just find your channel two days ago... now, I just wanna start new projects and this will be the first. Absolutely amazing! Congrats ;)
do you know the speedy stitcher? i think it would help you a lot..
Hi @Darbin,
May I know what camera/s were you using to shoot this video?
Thanks in advance, and more power!
Hi Peter, I put all the equipment I use in the video's description.
Going to recreate this
Hello! Was just wondering what kind of leather and thickness you're using for the bag. Is it chrome tanned? Thanks for the great video!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Where do you get your leather from?
Awesome looking back pack. What type of leather did you use? I would like to make one for my motorcycle that I can strap to the passenger backrest. Keep up the great videos. Thank you
Great backpack. Awesome work.
WOW. This is the perfect backpack! I love watching your channel, and hearing how you think out loud to process designs. Entertaining and educational!
I skinned a leather couch, Jimmy Diresta style. Your backpack has me inspired to get some leather working tools and get to making something with it. I wasn't sure about the patches, but you're right, it does look better than just beautiful leather. Will get even better still with use. Turned out great. Like your leather working vids, and the toolbox too. Thanks Lynn
nice work and design.
🙏👍👏👏
Lindo👏👏👏saludos de Perú
I love watching you make the leather bag as well as your other wood working videos. AWESOME! Where is this particular background music from and who is the artist???
All the background music (7 songs) are from the youtube library.
Darbin Orvar 👍🏾
Sorry I am tired last comment had errors:)
Are you using a saddle stitch?
can someone tell me where I can find the same type of leather
Excellent! Where did you get the tools?
It's hard to make a simple leather backpack. But you nailed it by making a complicated one with ease. Thanks for this cool video/ build!
Very nice work. Thanks.
Very Nice bag . I love it . Good job .
Wow! One of the most inspirational pieces ever. It's wonderful to look at but you strike such a special chord when you mention keeping this bag for many years, using patches to mark new adventures. THAT is a life lived well! I am glad we live in a time when someone like you can share these types of things. This project moved me.
Love your creative mind!
Cool
Great job. I'm impressed with your resoucefulness.
It is unique to yourself because you could design based on your preference the size, the leather, the colour. The outcome is amazing!
I just got into leatherworking myself, though I still need to pick up some more stuff for stitching; I decided to start off carving, stamping and tooling to get practice with those before moving on to constructing/stitching, so seeing this was really an inspiration. Honestly, I'm not sure if you really could find a leather bag like that for sale as something other than a custom order, and the fact that you made your own means that it will always be unique because it contains aesthetic and functional choices that reflect you, your personality and your creativity. Many years back, when talking to my father about something else, I got what I consider to be the best piece of advice pertaining to crafting; almost all projects start off simple, but very few remain that way for long. I've really taken that to heart and just accepted that even if what I was originally shooting for was something simple, I just have to go in whatever direction the project wants to take and trust that it will all turn out all right in the end.
Good!
I think you out did yourself this is absolutely fantastic the patches just really made it perfect
Thanks for sharing
Thanks Jerry!
hermosa mochila, un exelente trabajo de talabarteria....beautiful backpack, an excellent work of saddlery ....I hope that the translator of google transduces it well, greetings from Buenos Aires ...
You do amazing work! May i ask where you purchased the leather from? Thank you again!
Inspired.
Thank you.
nice. i like the patches. i think its ok to have lots of patches but as long as they mean something to you and not all j brought just because you like the designs. my friend buy a patch from every where he goes snowboarding and sews them on
Cool Idea !. I want to know more about the tools you used. Always interested in watching your Videos :-D
I carry a backpack. Love yours!!! This is an heirloom piece :) I'm a fan of your patches too
Thanks!
its perfect, I love it, very nice work, my favorite thing about this video is the fact that the bag you made was hand stitched👏👏👏👏👏😊
Instructables patch! Your whole process is inspiring and great to watch! I like how you shared your brainstorming ideas and your thoughts. Great video and stunning results!
Its amazing!! I can see exactly why you LOVE it, thanks for telling such a sweet story =)
