  • Taymor’s filmed version of the play she debuted at Brooklyn’s Theater for a New Audience in 2013. In this splendid production, a reverie of love, lust, infatuation, and desire, the charmed Puck-in the visage of a Chaplinesque character-manipulates young lovers through a night of magical excitement and quintessential poetry.

I would say this performance is the best A Midsummer Night’s Dream Shakespeare’s play is seriously presented: the cast, the acting, singing, lights, props, make-up, costumes and stage management! Besides, the tones of the play, the play within the play, the “real” and the fantasy world are all wonderfully and beautifully created to make the “illusion”!possible! Five stars!

I don't know how many disappointing, even embarrassing, Dreams I've seen in my life - until now. This was a production of pure genius - at every level - imagination, conception, execution, casting, acting, staging, costuming, sound design - and most importantly Taymor's brilliance as a director in pitch-perfectly balancing dark and light as two aspects of the same singularity - and of course the centrality of the unseen, of wild nature and of the sacredness of the flower - all aspects of cosmic reality and precursors to human madness. If you only ever watch one Shake-speare production in your life, make it this one. Bravo beyond words. Thank you so much for posting. Life is too short to have missed this joy.

Thank you for uploading this video! I live in Chile and I'd only watched the 1999 movie with Rupert Everett as Overon. I watched David Harewood as The Prince of Morocco in the movie The Merchant of Venice, 2004. He's talented and I like it when dark- skinned actors play big roles in a play. I've seen Shakespeare's plays in Spanish. I prefer English versions and I loved this one.
