  • From Feeling Better Than Ever to Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome
One of America's esteemed veterans tells his story of addiction and recovery. It happens like so many do, pain medications prescribed for an injury that leads to a substance abuse problem followed by a long road to recovery. His story gives us insight into his increased focus in the early days and post acute withdrawal syndrome during recovery.

So many misunderstandings here. Suboxone is worse to get off of than any short acting opioid and it you have to get through paws all again.

Thanks for sharing Glen. I’ve just come off my opiate pain treatment. I hate to say stopping a drug was the hardest experience of my life, we all have tragedies that befall us in this life, but it’s up there. Thank you for your service brother. Stay well.

I have been off opiates going on 5 months after 12 years of heavy use. The only thing that bothers me is that I have no energy or motivation. PAWS SUCKS. I understand why people relapse. My faith keeps me clean. ✌

I have been in PAWS from ssris and benzo for the past 20 months. The last 3 months have been unbelievably unbearable to the point that I am often times one click away from taking back the medication or being sedated again. But I have been holding off because it could be that I am almost out. I just wish we all could see the end and how much longer we got to go in order to make decisions.

That isn’t “restless legs” that is called “withdrawal akathisia” and it can become chronic and last for decades. Do not push through withdrawal. Don’t fear seizure & death. Fear things you have to live with like painful movement disorders. Half of opiate addiction is lower level akathisia and everyone doesn’t realize it.
