Having the S9, even the the 5.8" seems not enough for proper multimedia usage. Wide phones are actually smaller than before, the S9 on the 16:9 ratio is actually a 5.25" screen, smaller than a PSVita screen.
That would have been my pick from the very beginning. I'm a sucker for big phones. 20 pro too skinny and no headphone Jack. 20 X. Smaller notch, headphone Jack, bigger battery and screen size, same excellent camera as the pro and cheaper 😊

In display fingerprints and 3d face unlock plus wireless charging and 1440p display. But then again it depends on your needs. X has huge battery headphone jack and a pen u can use. I personally like face unlock for when my fingers are wet i nevervuse iris much on my note 8 but i do use it when ever my hand is wet and i like going back to when we use our thumb for unlocking. Pro just looks more elegant to me
I have the Mate 20 X the 256Gb version with 128Gb Nano card inserted. I agree with the UA-camr, it's certainly better than Pro. He forgot to mention that the Pro's curved screen is useless, just shrink the available surface and no content can use that area. Plus the rear fingerprint sensor is very useful when it comes to selfies or roll down the notification banner. Faster too. It makes awesome night photos. Runs seamlessly with 1250 apps on it. The best phone currently on the market. If you have a big hand. Just fit your pocket and still can sit down. There will be no bigger phones. That would be impractical.

I have had this phone since launch and honestly I still love it as my daily driver, the big screen is great for media consumption and multitasking. The only problem is I don't know when this eventually needs replacing what to go with. I'm not over impressed with the Samsung fold series atm, I like the sound of the Xaomi folding phone you covered a month or so ago. Though I'm hoping this phone will last at least another year, by then hopefully there will be some more big screened options.
I'm one of the X-Men (okay, I'm a woman) :D What made me cancel my Mate 20 Pro order - 1) no headphone jack (yeah, most use Bluetooth headphones nowadays, BUT what if you have a collection of great 3.5mm headphones?). 2) USB-C speaker - when you connect the cable on the Pro, the sound is muffled! I can live with the slightly lesser resolution, lack of waterproofing and less-sophisticated face recognition. Curved screens, meh, I always got the impression from reviews they were more susceptible to breakage when you drop them (can't vouch for this). The more-subtle notch on the Mate 20 X is a WIN, as well. I had a ZTE Axon 7 because I LOVED the stereo speakers and DAC amplifier (3.5mm headphone jack). I can see many complaining that the Mate 20 Pro has volume limitation (which ZTE had with EU versions, but rolled back with a software update). Does anyone feel the headphone volume on the X could be better? It's not awful, just needs a little more oomph. It's weird that the slightly-more expensive Pro has some worse features (imo) than the X. And, I'm glad to report, the Mate 20 X fits in my pocket!
Been using Mate X over a month: Battery life is crazy good, screen size is perfect for gaming, watching youtube etc, double speakers are fantastic, Kirin 980 is absolute beast and fast, wideangle lens is fun to use. The biggest minus is the speaking/talk speaker, its very very quiet when talkng to someone. Hopefuly they will keep making these X series!
u forget to mention the 20pro have superfast 40W charging(and come with the charger in box) and the reverse charging. the later is nothing but gimmick, but faster charge is always welcome. and the 20x have extra graphene cooling system for gaming. no idea if it's gimmick or not, I only got the 20x. but I never feel the phone heating up so I can only say it's cool.
Mine arrived today, I'm coming from a nexus 6, got it running at about 2pm today. Everything off my old phone loaded smoothly, I think I can safely say I'm going to love this device. Will give an update after a couple weeks. 👍👍

Mate 20 and Mate 20 X both have IP53...maybe that doesnt sound "good enough" but in truth the Mate 10 regular had IP 53 and look at its water test here on youtube. It survives full submergance for 5 mins no prob. They even open the phone and there is no moisture inside... Dont be fooled by the IP rating, it's lower because of the headphone jack but in reality it is enough for accidental drops 👍

I think the price is just about same in HK and China. Also know the hk version will have a better cleaner software because China version runs on China rom.
I like the 20 X for it's speakers, bigger screen, audio jack (it's more than just a headphone jack), faster fingerprint reader (could care less it is not in display, speed and accuracy is more important), and minimal notch. Pro has more gimmick features (who will ever really use 3D modeling more than once to see if it works) not worth extra cash. Although wish they put wireless charging in the X. Cable is faster but wireless charging is a nice option and I'm sure there's room in that monster for the extra tech.
My Mate 20 Pro 3d face works flawlessly. Works even with sunglasses on and also even when i don't look directly at it. But yeah I'm very impressed with the face unlock.
My 5 years old Sony Xperia Z Ultra had already face recognition unlock function. They sell old stuff as new lol Besides why does anyone want to scan their proper 3D face pattern into the global system? To make the surveillance camera's job easier to track you down? :))
@@LnZ_Blu It doesn't work on the Mate 20 X, it'll still charge at 20W maximum. Only the mate 20 Pro's battery is able to pull a full 30W charging (not 40, that is only a theoretical limit). The Mate 20X does 22.5W, which is as good as Dash charge in OnePlus.
@@LnZ_Blu Why is it a shame? It is almost as fast as Dash charge, which itself is one of the fastest charging methods in the market. You should be more than happy. The Mate 20X can charge around half its battery in 30 minutes.
Good review man, as a guy who loves big phones(ever since the Sony Z Ultra) and I last rocked the Mi Max 2, I am really interested in this phone. Right now I currently am using a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and like the phone overall but hate that I have to constantly charge it. Just curious, I know this phone only accepts the new nano sims but I'm wondering if it is possible to buy a microsd card and just cut it smaller to fit? Also would you say the camera overall is a step up the S9+ and the P20 Pro? I know you said it is top 2-3 cameras on the market. Also what are your impressions of the Mate 20? In aus i have the 20x cn version. But the telco sms says something about 3g shutting down soon and 4g volte will not work on this device. Honestly... i like the idea of stable night video recording for fishing camping or watch a mate do drunk acrobatics etc. Other than that BIG ass buttons for texting and less top heavy are a secondary desire...
Bought it on the release date.. My advice... Immediately buy the smart cover accessory.. It immediately makes handling the phone soooo much easier.. Get rid of the transparent back case that comes with the box .. Enjoy .. Best phone ever owned 👍👍👍👏👏
I can't seem to decide what one I want more. Only problem is, where do you buy the Mate 20x? Ive seen it a couple sites but they all have uk charger or china. Sure I could use one of the ones I have now but then charging is going to be slow as hell :( Also, I wish someone could do a size comparison with other phones. Does it record unlimited time in 4K? It also sounds like it would be future-proof and last for a handful of years. The size? I am rather tiny and always have to use both hands to run my phone anyway so probably not a big change there. You forgot to mention there is a stylus that works with this phone although unlike the Note 9 there is no internal storage. Great video. Thank you.
I can add wireless charging sticker to the 20X, but not being water resistant is a disadvantage. My LG V20 was damaged when I dropped it in water. Also the 20X does not have an expansion card. Other than that I prefer it's size.
watching this video with my new Huawei Mate 20X which I've ordered directly from Shenghzen .. the nightmode is insane... It collect enough light to make photo's from the stars ✨ I have the Mate 20pro aswell (just have payed 75 EUR through a contract extention ) and never had an issue with the 3D face detection...The in screen fp sensor has to be pressed very accurately... the sound quality is so much better on the 20X...it has 2 real speaker's..audio is loud and clear..
Since you got the 2 devices it would't hurt a screen on time video with streaming (youtube or twitch). For me it's the most important thing on a smartphone, for the typical "sleep" mode my S9 takes about 1% every 25-35mins.
Ben, i want to ask something regarding Mate 20x 1. how is your battery life? I got around 12 to 14 hours battery, screen on time around 6 to 7 hours plus. My settings are 2 active simcards, mobile data, wifi and Bluetooth are ON all the time brightness around 50 percent. It is acceptable? 2.Regarding Nova launcher, i have issue when opening split screen. Everytime i open 2nd window, i cannot choose the apps that i want but i can only choose recent apps. But if i use the huawei stock launcher, when i open the 2nd window, i can immediately chose the apps that i want. Any comment?

No one seems to talk about the 40mp for taking actual 40mp images. How well does it do taking 40mp photos exclusively? Is it slow?

Hey Ben, I’ve saw it somewhere that apparently you can use Mate 20 Pro’s 40W fast charging plug and cable to charge the Mate 20X much faster than what the X provides you with, is it true ? Have you did a test on this ?

You should try to do a Mate 20X vs Galaxy Tab S4 as a portable multimedia device. One thing the Tab S4 would excel is comic/manga reading.

How about Fast Charging? Mate 20pro has 40w Supercharge while on the otherhand have 22w only??
Not to mention 20x Has liquid cooling with Vapor chamber and graphene cooling tech on it. And for about 100 bucks cheaper. Way more worth it IMO than Mate 20 pro.

Honestly... i like the idea of stable night video recording for fishing camping or watch a mate do drunk acrobatics etc.

Bought it on the release date.. My advice... Immediately buy the smart cover accessory.. It immediately makes handling the phone soooo much easier.. Get rid of the transparent back case that comes with the box .. Enjoy .. Best phone ever owned 👍👍👍👏👏

I can't seem to decide what one I want more. Only problem is, where do you buy the Mate 20x? Ive seen it a couple sites but they all have uk charger or china. Sure I could use one of the ones I have now but then charging is going to be slow as hell :(
Also, I wish someone could do a size comparison with other phones. I always see it side by side with the 20pro. Ive never seen the 20pro before. Not in any stores yet so cant really judge how big the x actually is.

ben's gadget reviews - oh, wow, I may have found a phone with dual speakers, extra storage (sucks about the nano though especially since I jumped the gun & got a micro - sucks to be me for that), and I think will record in 4K(?). Does it record unlimited time in 4K?
It also sounds like it would be future-proof and last for a handful of years. The size? I am rather tiny and always have to use both hands to run my phone anyway so probably not a big change there.
You forgot to mention there is a stylus that works with this phone although unlike the Note 9 there is no internal storage.

I can add wireless charging sticker to the 20X, but not being water resistant is a disadvantage. My LG V20 was damaged when I dropped it in water.
Also the 20X does not have an expansion card.
Other than that I prefer it's size.
All the Mate20 got expansion card, but it's Huawei propiertary, Nano memory.

watching this video with my new Huawei Mate 20X which I've ordered directly from Shenghzen .. the nightmode is insane... It collect enough light to make photo's from the stars ✨ I have the Mate 20pro aswell (just have payed 75 EUR through a contract extention ) and never had an issue with the 3D face detection...The in screen fp sensor has to be pressed very accurately... the sound quality is so much better on the 20X...it has 2 real speaker's..audio is loud and clear..

Since you got the 2 devices it would't hurt a screen on time video with streaming (youtube or twitch). For me it's the most important thing on a smartphone, for the typical "sleep" mode my S9 takes about 1% every 25-35mins.
Ben, i want to ask something regarding Mate 20x
1. how is your battery life? I got around 12 to 14 hours battery, screen on time around 6 to 7 hours plus. My settings are 2 active simcards, mobile data, wifi and Bluetooth are ON all the time brightness around 50 percent. It is acceptable?
2.Regarding Nova launcher, i have issue when opening split screen. Everytime i open 2nd window, i cannot choose the apps that i want but i can only choose recent apps.
But if i use the huawei stock launcher, when i open the 2nd window, i can immediately chose the apps that i want. Any comment?

salva ferrara it does not have wireless charging and it’s a gaming phone with liquid cooling lol that phone is not ever going to get hot
The both have the same exact camera only real difference is the resolution notches screen size fingerprint scanners and wireless charging
