I've watched almost all of your videos, particularly Myanmar vlogs. I am very much enjoyed your vlogs and delighted for sharing about my country, Myanmar, not only us also the world. Hoping the next vlog is going to be exploring " the Taungoo Dynasty", which is famous between 16th - 18th Centuries in the history of Myanmar (Burma). Cheers!!
'Gaung Say = Shampoo' island Gaung -> One's head. Say -> Wash, clean..... Great video. You can find the book you mentioned if you met with the monk. I think I heard them conversing when you were near the hanging plants area. Cheers mate.
Much appreciate the super video. The island is so serene, beautiful and peaceful that one writer dozed off. Don't need any drugs to relax! I was transposed to enjoy the peace and quietness there. Pls keep up the great work!
Hey Doug, love your video. I went to school (primary school) in Moulmein (Mawlamyine) in the early 60's but never been to gong-say-kyun. Moulmein was a very beautiful and quiet town that time. I used to walk along the Strand Road (Kan-Nar-Lan) in the evenings with my uncle. I would say that Mawlamyine and Kan-Nar-Lan look very much different today however not in a positive way.
I love your videos Doug. Very informative. As a Myanmar, I appreciate your effort to visit places in Myanmar. Even I haven't been to shampoo island. Just one thing. Don't drink ice cold water in very hot weather. We had many cases of death from it. I'm not kidding. I'm just worried about you.
Nice long ramble to Shampoo island. It seems that it's deserted for most of the time and comes alive for festivals. The solitude is wonderful as is the dense vegetation. Amazes me how people build shrines in the most remote and deserted places. How did they manage to get the supplies all the way and that too I suppose a long time ago when modern amenities were not available.
A good long video... I slept midway, after power nap finished watching. This channel deserves more views and subscribers. Seems Millennial don't have patience.
This is a pleasant surprise video. It is a long one but I don’t even know how I finished . Island is very well maintained . Burmese people called Naga as Naga. I think it came from Indian language . We share a few common language from India to south east Asia. We also share common night time stories in south east Asia. I am glad you finally got ice cold water 💦 from little shop. Garuda is “ Galon “ in Burmese. It is a mythical guardian bird.
Yes we share the same family from northeast india ,tibet, some ethnic language in nepal and china because Sino-tibetan language. And also rakhine, kayin, kachin, chin language. We can find more details in google about Sino tibetan language family
Another great video! Quality so much better on the Panasonic and also apprecicate you enduring the weight of the cameras for a better production. Really wish you could upload 4K. I'm a Wednesday born as well. :-)
Hi Mr Douglas U held up yr thirst for a long time as there is life in that Island so you would have got help however my advice is you are to carry some bottles at all times
I prefer the G85 depth of field and color saturation that is assuming you did not do any enhancements on both videos. It surely adds more oomph and drama to the overall shot composition. That being said, the GoPro does show a wider field of view and we are able to take in more of what's going on behind you. I do prefer the 'Regular Mode' on the GoPro better as the 'Super View' makes you look weird... lol! So I guess carrying both is a wise solution buddy :)
Thanks for the video. Even though Maw La Myine is my hometown where I grew up and studied until regional college I had been to this island only once. Gaung in Myanmar meaning is Head and Say means wash or cleanse , so the whole meaning of the island is actually Cleansing the Hair or hair wash. Btw , the Garuda in Myanmar is called Ga Lone (ဂဠုန်) , a legendary bird who like to attack Na Gar (dragon). May I know how long is your Gopro battery last ?
Darn that sign put a stop to you taking all those narcotics and liquor you were planning to have while there🤣 . Though that would have been some good 'content' to you off your face there haha
thank you for filming shampoo island! Never heard of it until you! However we are concerned about your skin, my mom wants to know if you wear sunscreen ? please do !!!
Nice day out Doug. Just love how steady 5 axis IBIS of your G85 is, much better than my little GX7. Makes me want to upgrade to a Lumix G9 now that they are below $1000 and Panasonic just updated the G9 firmware with new video features to almost GH5 like quality, pretty awesome. Naga is a Sanskrit word for cobra. Naga images you see are artist rendition of mythological great cobra, in Burmese we call this mythical creature Na-Gar also. Buddhism is full of magnificent stories involving the great Naga king. (Not a dragon but a serpent/cobra creature) If you need help translating Burmese signs and paragraphs to English, we can help you with that. Just post the photo of the text in the video. Gaung-Say-Kyun>> Gaung(gaung as in sound)=head, say=wash, kyun(kyun as in soon) = island Wa-Rah-Da-Mu-Dha (Pali in Burmese scripts) = Varada Mudra (Same Pali term pronounced slightly different but same meaning) = Generosity gesture (welcoming/granting gesture to followers)
I really miss you...You know what is happening in Myanmar right now...Military coup...Help Us please..I have been your fan for a long time...Would you mind checking out the news of our country ?😞

Hardly anyone goes there except you. It’s a very dried video. . Sorry. Just suggesting when you visit countries like Laos, talk with the local tourism industry so you can help in promoting their tourism industries. God blessed

Do you know george orwell, british authur.he lived in small town in Myanmar for about 2 years and wrote a novel. I think you should try.
I wonder, how shampoo Island survived river floods during monsoon?
i guess one reason could be coz its situated at mouth of river delta , isnt?
Such a hot day..you need some shade against the harsh rays of the sun😎🧢🕶
