- Malaysians love MELAKA / MALACCA it has some of the best food in the country like asam pedas, laksa and the famous chicken rice balls.
First up, we'll visit Red Square, also known as Dutch Square, which features beautiful colonial buildings painted in bright shades of red. This is a popular spot for taking photos and learning about Melaka's past as a Dutch colony then colonized by the British.
Next, we'll head to Jonker Street Night Market, one of the most vibrant and colorful places in Melaka. Here you can find all sorts of souvenirs, street food, and local delicacies. If you're not interested in the market I recommend to visit Melaka on a weekday, as the crowds can get overwhelming on weekends.
Speaking of food, we'll show you where to find the best breakfast in Melaka: Chicken Rice Balls. This unique dish is a must-try and can be found at several restaurants in town.
For a second breakfast, we'll take you to Jonker 88, a popular Peranakan eatery known for its Nyonya Assam Laksa, a spicy and tangy noodle soup that's considered the best laksa in Melaka.
After some more sightseeing, we'll visit Masjid Kampung Kling, a beautiful mosque with a mix of Malay, Chinese, and Indian architectural styles.
If you need a break from the heat, we'll take you to one of the many amazing Melaka coffee shops called the Daily Fix, where you can enjoy a refreshing cold coffee and some snacks.
Next, we'll hop on the Melaka River Cruise, a relaxing boat ride that takes you along the scenic Melaka River and past some of the city's most iconic landmarks.
Finally, we'll visit the Church of St. Paul, a historic church perched on a hilltop that offers stunning views of the city.
And of course, we can't leave Melaka without trying one of its most famous dishes: Assam Pedas. This spicy and sour fish stew is actually from Sumatra, Indonesia, but has become a beloved dish in Melaka.

Your opinion about a tip to a tour guide is really great, awesome. We call it sadaqah, giving something without expecting in return or giving something that make people happy or any type of charity. In Islam, show a smile to others is also sadaqah! and we got reward from the god by doing any form of sadaqah! You are a really good person! Have a nice holiday & may god protecting you! Amin.

@@ayngelinaSadaqah is not the linguistic term for a tip. It's what Muslims call for what they give as alms.
There is a difference. A tip is given for good service, whereas Sadaqah is given as an act of generosity.
Tipping is not a default thing here as it is in the West. A tip is earned by providing exceptionally good and satisfactory service.
So funny, I know and love your channel for the food and never missed something like a big boat replica! Everyone’s got their interests, and if I did videos they’d all be nerdy visits to museums, farms and handicraft artists. 😂 I love all your international food education, means culture to me as well. ❤
Oh I love farm visits too! I’m glad to hear you don’t miss the boat replica. I want my videos to reflect what I actually do while traveling rather than getting trapped into going places to make a video. And my favourite days and walking then eating and more walking and eating. So I appreciate others do that too 🙂

You have to spend a few days at least in Malacca. Been there so many times and as I write this, I' m thinking of driving there! I remember a place - a shop that that you have to go through and it leads to an open space where you can relax and have a snack and a couple of beers. It's beside the river so you spend the day just unwinding as the boats pass by.
Prices of hotels have soared esp Casa Del Rio - walking distance to Jonker walk. The more tourists the higher the price. Lots of Singaporeans and their Dollar is almost equivalent to that of the USD.
Hope you enjoyed your stay in Malacca.
In the end we spent a week and I would definitely go back, but yes I would agree it's not a shoestring budget destination at all.

The Dutch managed only conquering Melaka, they tried to capture Selangor & Perak but was repelled. The Dutch Fort still standing today at Pangkor, Perak. Luckily the Dutch failed in their attempt, otherwise we would have been part of Indonesia by now, haha 😀
- Asam Kandis & Asam Gelugor are the family of Mangosteen from the Garcinia genus, some called them faux mangosteen. Asam Gelugor is sliced & dried similar, function as tamarind to give acidic taste to the food.
- the boat ride better tried during the night, much more beautiful as the river edge is fully neonized.
- the ship is the replica of the Flor de la Mar, Portuguese vessel that sank in the Indian ocean. 1/2 of the original size.

I actually appreciate a lot the food sections. I am a stubborn eater, not very open to trying new food. If i were there id for sure go to most familiar food I could find, kababs or even a hamburger to refuel and id only focus on seeing places. You are reminding me food is a big part of the culture and making me wanna try them.
That means so much to me, in the last few videos we didn’t find a lot of local food and I really felt like something was missing. We just landed in Laos and I was telling Alan we have to make more of an effort to find the local spots

It is not a boat. It is a battleship , a replica of flor de lamar. 1/3 the original size. A maritime museum inside.
I’m from the east coast of Canada and so for me everything is a boat but you’re right calling it that minimizes what it is.

Hahaha well thank you for the feedback. Buddy moon is really into sharing lots of history and very enthusiastic about monuments and things, but it’s not my bag. That said Alan also really likes it so I think we’ll be incorporating more.

The british and dutch were friends. During the napolean war, the dutch passed the administration of melaka to the british to avoid falling to the french forces. Once napolean was defeated at waterloo, the british and dutch entered an agreement called the anglo dutch agreement which allowed both to take singapore, malaysia, borneo and indonesia as their colonies. The britsh actually destroyed the portuguese fort to force everyone to move to penang but that failed. The governor of the straits settlement stanfort raffles stopped the demolition.

THAT being said, my family is Catholic, but we still love visiting churches and missions.

But I actually liked sharing the church. I think the ship would have bored me. But I decided to feature things in between the meals in the future as long as people are interested.
@@ayngelina I googled the ship and it looks stupid, honestly. It's just a maritime museum. So I may be a hater, but at least I'm a smart hater😂 The other "in-between stuff" on the other hand was very interesting and worth it. I know food shows are popular right now and some people are interested in food. In terms of content if you wanna focus on that, that's your call, but in terms of actually being there, I think it would be a shame and waste of money to travel to a place and not experience the sites. There is certainly more to culture then just food, so I'm glad you decided to step out of your comfort zone. At the same time though, if you're serious about this, you sometimes need to cater to what your audience wants. Unless that something is a stupid replica shit with nothing inside😂

I am leaving for Malaysia in July. Just wondering if the food and drinks are safe? someone told you you can't drink their tap water so those teas, coffees and Milos that they make are they made from tap water?? I am quite scared of getting food poisoning but did you ever go through any issues with the food or water? Thank you so much for your video btw! so informative
You can’t drink tap water but all the drinks and ice are made from filtered water as locals don’t drink from the tap either and ice is cheap and delivered easily.
I just wanted to add a few tips because I see you're really scared of getting food poisoning. Malaysia is a great place for you as a lot of people speak English and hygiene standards are high. But no matter where you go, a bit of stomach trouble can happen simply because you're in a new place and minerals can be different in water etc. I'm not sure where you're from but I always carry Pepto Bismol with me just in case my stomach starts to rumble or I feel a bit nauseous.
Use the lime on your table to wipe your chopsticks or utensils before you eat - locals do it.
I've been traveling around the world for 14 years writing about food on my website and I've only ever gotten food poisoning in my home country Canada because I let my guard down.
But also I think a lot of people aren't getting stomach issues from drinks or ice. It's because they don't wash their hands enough and then touch their nose or mouth. If you have hand wipes also wipe down your phone daily as it's more disgusting than any toilet will be :)
Go to busy street food places and local restaurants, most people get sick from hotel restaurants because they don't turn over food quickly enough as locals don't eat there.

Your Hainanese chicken rice didn't look like it came with rice...hence you had to order rice balls. Odd.
And although I am not native Malaysian, I would say the rice is as important as the chicken. It needs to be cooked in chicken stock and the full of flavor.
I think it's my fault. If I remember correctly I told them not to give me the rice because I ordered rice balls. I have stopped eating white rice so I don't like to waste it by putting it on the table. Although with your comment I think that may have been a mistake.
