Spend thousands on a private detective and then when you have his name and address . Send a box of your angriest bees (a bee bomb) to his house for Christmas . It’s the only logical choice you have .

Get the no show type it doesn't omit any red light at night.

Many years ago I fitted a switch to a drawer at work which contained a small amount of cash which was being stolen regularly. It was wired up to a light in a nearby office. It worked a treat. The thief was caught the next day. Good luck!
That was a good idea! Hopefully I can identify this one! But I’m really hoping this video draws the whole thing to a close.
I hope the video does it too. That would be ideal. A video camera would be a sensible insurance policy you will hopefully never need! I installed a memory card in my hedgehog cam yesterday and really enjoyed the footage this morning! There were visits until 2.40am!!

One of the worst types of theft, stealing from honesty boxes is as low as it gets. I hope you caught the bugger.

You will find him inshaAllah, thiefs are greedy. My ideas would be to set up a camera but even with a camera depending on where you put it, it might means getting stealed a few times before you know who steals from you and you have to take in consideration that putting a camera visible will make the thief afraid but might makes the honest costumers angry.
What I would do is put a camera that is not visible for anyone and lower the quantity of jars you leave you have higher chance of catching the thief by elimination. That thief is likely dumb and comming at the same hour to steal.

I had to take mine down because not only did they steal the honey and the money they took the whole box. Hopefully you catch them my friend and you can still provide this service for the honest people out there.

This has happened to me a few times this year. I have a lock box and limit the number of jars i leave out. it's a shame some people have no shame

Sickening!! I would do as you said, wildlife trail camera, but rather than one jar of honey, pop a few bits and pieces on show as bait. Some garden produce maybe instead of the valuable honey. Good luck, I really hope you catch the culprit!

Friend had a light sensor across the drive so it set off a loud buzzer at the house.
The auto spot light was put very high up.

We have had a honesty box selling eggs and someone has started taking eggs without paying so annoying i have put cctv on the egg box now

Thats a good idea...truth is I don't want to know who's stealing from there. Id rather the person draw a line over it and move on and for it to stop. ☹️

Fit a camera for the next month or so, incase it happens for the third, fourth time. Be a shame for this to be the cause of you having to take the box away.

You removed a hive from a tree not so long ago... A similar method should work 😅

Oh mate 😢 I've came across this video as looking for advice as someone is stealing from my honesty box 😢 I was silly and didn't stock take the last few months but this last two weeks alone I've lost £34 😢 so heart breaking when you put your heart and soul into something. Gosh knows how much I've lost 🙈💔

That is very disappointing. Camera is the way forwards. The new ring security cameras with the app work well. You can see the live feed from your phone.

Another beekeeper I know has a sign inside her honesty box that reads "there's a stairway to heaven or there's a highway to hell, please take the stairs.... be honest!" 😀
Thiefs are lowlifes and taking from a small producer who depends on this income is disgraceful...
I hope this video of yours puts an end to their dishonesty... keep the faith man... most people are good.. it only takes one bad apple to spoil the orchard.

Gruffydd why not have a contact number that people can call to say how many jars they want and a time they will be coming so you can put the honey in and know to collect the cash soon after they have left

Locals may appreciate it as they can avoid having to engage in social etiquette chit-chat and asking 'Sut mae dy Dad/Fam/y plant?' when all they want to do is quickly get some honey. The reverse is true too - it will help prevent you being tied to the telephone talking to the local chatterbox when you are busy!!

Hi there! I’ve just discovered your you tube channel by accident 😄 I was googling honesty boxes and egg stands. I’m in Ireland, in a fairly built up village, lots of passer by’s so I know with my 20 chickens I can at least make good money to keep feeding them etc… I am just wondering what came of your thief? Did you catch them or find out who they are? Did you confront them? Also…. Have you any advice for me in setting up my stand? I intend to use a locked metal box with a slot for putting coins in. It will be bolted of course. Anyhow, you put up some very interesting videos, I love everything farming and animals. New subscriber here ☺️ many thanks!

We knew who the thief was but decided not to confront her.
Since doing this video a lot has changed for the business and we now have a shop on the farm for people to come to. We can take cash and card payments from there so it made sense only to sell from there.
My advice is make sure you have a metal lock box chained or bolted and that people can’t sort the change out themselves. Correct money only.
They are more likely to steal the money rather than the product. But there is no way you can make it 100 thief proof.

If I put an honesty box out honey, cash and box and all would go in less than 24hrs. All the best with finding the guilty party. And keep on the right side of the old Bill.

Hi Gruff, such a great shame one bad apple decides to steal your wares, if it was me I would have to take the box down and leave a message in its place explaining what has happened maybe just maybe you might prick their conscience into coming clean, take your wares in doors gruff it will stop this thieving you probably know most of the people buying your stuff with you living on a farm I’m guessing you live in a small community. But yes this is not a nice situation to be in I do hope you find a way that suits you and your family mate, all the best.

We sell eggs and honey in an honesty box and we had a chap coming in a Mercedes car And just took the money he didn't take any honey he didn't take any eggs he just took the money we got to know who it was doing it when he stopped in his car walked across to him he quickly got in his car and drive off and never came again obviously realised we know who it is but he didn't risk coming again and we made a metal safe for the money I haven't looked yet did you catch him
No not yet, been really slow sorting it out. I’ve got a metal box ready and painted just need to bolt it down in place.
Currently I’ve got a note on the box to call in the house. This week now il get it done! 😊
I'd hide in those bushes and wait like a cheetah then scare the crap out of them when caught. but I'm extra like that. Hope you caught the stinker and I really hope it wasn't a neighbor.

Sorry to hear about the theft. The one mistake which I think you've made is to just have a plastic box for people to put their money in. You definitely need to have a piggy bank type thing where peopl can only put money in and can't see how much is in the box. Preferably secure the box to the honesty box so people can't pinch it. Also, have you thought about introducing contactless payments using a iZettle or Sumup (you'll need an internet connection though)? That's one sure way to mitigate theft of cash. Granted it won't stop people from stealing the honey but if they do them you'll just lose on the cost of the product as opposed to the actual sales proceeds

You should attach a small wire and sensor to the door and have a colored light go off in the house once it is tripped. You will know when someone has been to your box. :) I owned a pub for a few years, it was never fun catching someone you like stealing from you. I grew up in the farm area outside Vancouver and farmers do the same thing with honesty boxes but I seen that mostly with cut flowers. On a side note, been looking at starting to keep hives for years and I have been enjoying your videos. Hopefully this time next year I will have a hive or 3 going. :)

@@gwenyngruffydd I wish but I'm renting at the moment. I should be in or close to moving into my own property next year. You might laugh as you are a long time beekeeper but I like the Flow-Hives. I saw it on Kickstarter years ago but I had just gotten married. Then I got busy with divorce, losing my house and having to go into bankruptcy. I'm building myself back up. I am planning on building the Flow-Hives over the winter. I use to live on a sailboat and I want to treat the wood the same as the wood on the boat, on the outside. I want to thin out spar varnish, like a 50/50 and do like 7 or 8 coats. The wood will look beautiful. I don't think I have had real honey before but if it's like the revelation I had with real maple syrup, it will be amazing.
I also, lol since the divorce, heart problems. I have gotten off all processed foods but I still like some sugar in my green tea. I'm hoping to make that switch. I also hear real honey will help with the natural flora in your digestive track, that's a nice bonus. I am a nurse by trade and I have used real honey in wound care. I can't see a down side. I thought about hives as a kid but my sister was very allergic to bee stings so that was never a option.
I spoke to a local bee keeper and for $650 Canadian, he would sell me a producing hive (two brood boxes and two for honey). Seems like a good price but I have been debating between getting a hive so I can split it for my Flow-Hive hives or if I should wait and just start with the new system? The house I am renting has a nice size yard and I'm about 2 blocks from the North Saskatchewan River, which is an natural green/flower corridor in my area. Unfortunately, there is no shed or garage to keep equipment in. I figured starting a Flow-Hive here would be easier until I move. If I wait, I can buy a Nuc for $275 Canadian.
You, being the expert, what would you do, get a hive because splitting the hive is more important or would you prefer to start with Nuc's?
I would start with nucs. And buy complete empty hives. And move the nucs into the hives once their big enough.
I would recommend you start with 2.
Placing empty hives around the place as swarm traps is a excellent way of catching free bees.
I haven’t got any experience with the flow hive so can’t comment on how good it is. It doesn’t appeal to me. But I can definitely see why people want them.

The problem with CCTV is that if you are not constantly monitoring it you will need to spend potentially a lot of time looking through hours of footage. Even if the recording captures someone in the act it will not necessarily help if you cannot ID them.

Yeah I’d bolt in the money box to make it more secure. Set the cameras and maybe along each route so you get an idea of where they come from.

This is so sad, I'm very sorry for you. It's the reason I'm undecided about having an honesty box on my street. In your situation, although it risk a losing another small amount of money, I'd carry on as you are but with trail cams up. If youre able to, out and check the box hourly and keep a record of contents and then you've got more evidence for the police. I wouldn't change things until they're caught on camera though, as much as you want to prevent theft, you also want to catch them as they'll only go and find easier pickings with your neighbours.

I remember getting some daffodils 5 bunches for a pound, bloke pulled up in a brand new Mercedes at same time. Put 20p in the box and had 5 bunches.

After watching this video a few months ago I built an honesty box for my eggs, last week it was broken into and robbed. CCTV went up the following day, hoping to catch them next time!
