Even love for your mom/daughter has limits (depending on their narcissistic tendencies). If you give others the same respect/behavior as you receive then you will be surprised at their respect/attitude shown toward you.

I've been in toxic relationships before, and the communication was better than in this story. The author definitely had a twisted view of what a blind love is. At least to me. If I had a friend in his situation, I would have kicked his ass, pointed out everything in crayon drawings, and finally threaten to disown him if he didn't wake up. There's no way I could just sit back and watch the train wreck.
I have been stupid myself sometimes. Especially when I was younger, but I have always been someone who thinks things through, and likes solving puzzles, and observing people from outside. Probably why I only married once, and never again after that one ended.

This story was the most unhinged & unrealistic of all of these I've heard. No man is that stupid, least of all a combat vet, who is used to looking for anything out of the ordinary. We are trained to recognize things that stand out as a potential hazard. Once your life has depended on that sense for a tour of duty, in an active combat theater, it doesn't ever go away & it translates to civilian life. Furthermore there isn't a man on the planet that doesn't know what dried ejaculate smells like, the telltale scent of s*x on dirty sheets (visa vi undergarments too) & nobody would ever fleck off an unidentified substance from undergarments to taste it!
Even if he wasn't a combat veteran or he'd somehow managed to cage those instincts along with his adrenaline fueled blood lust; If he failed to notice the signs for YEARS then he really wasn't paying proper attention to his wife. How could you go years without realizing that your wife was buying new outfits & they were appearing damaged in suggestive ways? Especially if you help with the household chores? Heck, I've been married for 27 years now & there's not an outfit, blouse or dress the missus' owns that I don't recognize. I pay attention to what she wears because, well, I just like seeing her I guess? She asks me about her outfits all the time & you know what? I never lie to her. If I think it doesn't look good on her then I'll tell her - but then I tell her how I think it could be improved. Usually it's just a better color coordination or accessorizing; I've a weird out of place talent for that sorta thing. Even if I see that a pair of pants rides up in the back, gives her camel toe or gives her a muffin top I'm not afraid to tell her. Too tight & form fitting is not so much of an issue now this late in our marriage but I was always honest with her even early on. If something made my wife look sexy then I was all praise & I told her as much. She didn't go out clubbing with the ladies & when she did go out dressed to the nines it was with other married couples & myself. However she never dressed like a 304, with no undergarments, at least not out of the house! ;)
The wife in this was unrealistic as well. She was a kind & loving wife right up until the last few months; Yet she'd been screwing around on him the entire time after their first child was born? That didn't mesh well. Her sudden change into a villainous, conniving & spiteful woman was just too much. Even if she had become more jaded towards him, fallen out of love (or lust) with him, her underlying persona couldn't change that suddenly. Furthermore, if her underlying persona was that way originally he would've been tipped off by observing her interactions with others, stories from her past told either by her, her family or her friends. That would have prepared him to be even more observant & cautious. Even assuming he'd missed all these signs, because he's blind, deaf & dumb obviously the lunatic wife wasn't. If she knew he was a combat vet & was a medical professional she'd know all about psychotic breaks in veterans that saw combat. Acting this way towards him would have been like playing Russian roulette with herself.
As for how the story ended, I'll be honest, I wasn't happy with it. I love to listen to these stores where a cheating spouse gets what they deserve. I think it appeals to all of us on a base level of some kind. However this wasn't a good end by any stretch of the imagination. First, it ignores the fact that he'd gathered up all the evidence of his wife's infidelity. If they treated this as a homicide case then they too would have been looking for signs he may have been tipped off in advance & assaulted his wife. Even if they couldn't prove it though, still; He killed the mother of his children & lied about it. He'd have to be a sociopath or psychopath to just move on with his life like nothing happened & considering how emotional he was; He didn't fit the profile for either one.
