The music from Dear Evan Hansen saved my life! I still havent been able to watch it, because I cant afford to, but even with just the soundtrack and script, it was enough to truly affect me and make me feel not alone when I was deep in the trenches of depression and dealing with intense suicidal thoughts. It would mean the world to me to actually be able to watch it❤❤❤

My dream cast of a deh movie would include ABF as Evan and Mallory Bechtel as Zoe (emphasize on dream; someone pointed out in the comments that ABF realistically wouldn't be able to do it and Ben's already playing Evan). They look/still are young, and those two are my favorite pair besides Laura and Ben. -But having Ben as Evan is still amazing too because if I had to make another list it would just be the whole original cast-

RedHeadVixen 101 Those are some very good points. Honestly if Ben is in it, it’s going to be an amazing movie. His voice is one of the reasons I fell in love with the show in the first place. His talent is mind blowing. No doubt I’ll watch it and love it and probably cry the entire time haha.

Since everyone is debating whether or not Ben is too old to play Evan now, I’m thinking it’d be neat to make it an animated thing. I mean it’s very unlikely, idk any animated musicals other than Disney and other kids’ stuff but. It’d just be really cool. They could model the character designs after the actors but like younger, and if the whole original cast would voice act....👌👌👌

It was. It's in the archives. All modern Broadway shows are filmed, but they don't release the recordings. It's really frustrating from an accessibility standpoint.

It's not shot like Hamilton, but it's a hell of a lot better than the bootlegs those of us who can't go to Broadway are stuck with.

Everyone has their own handful of beautiful talent. You see everyone gushing over Ben platt? and everyone (including me) gushing over Jeremy Jordan? You don't see us going "oh, but jeremy is 10x better at x or y", we see eachother saying "oh my gosh i love them both so much!" We don't compare, we admire.

@@mawnmower YES. She was so perfect in the role. Both her bodily acting and the acting in her voice was absolutely perfect. I feel like she sounded the most age-appropriate. And even her singing had amazing acting in it! I want to hear her perform the two Zoey songs in the film, in the same way the novel has them. I feel like the film version should be a full-on musical. Maybe just four songs. Two from Evan (which can be musical-like), and two from Zoey (which can fit in realistically).
I like this toned down version of Jimmy Fallon. He actually listens and conversates with his guests now instead of forced laughing at every word and fidgeting / jumping around. Maybe he gets super distracted and nervous when he does his normal talk show in the studio in front of an audience? Maybe because he is talking into a single camera with no one else around, he is forced to genuinely listen and react to the person he is speaking to.
Dear Evan Hansen needs to be a film so us introverts with anxiety can watch it in the safety of our own homes. If I’m going to be depressed and crying I’d like to do that alone not surrounded by people

The world don’t deserve Ben platt
Everyone that’s saying that Andrew should play Evan there’s no way he could do it realistically. He’s going to Harvard in the fall with a lot of other opportunities. He just doesn’t seem to have the time and I highly doubt he will do it. I think if Ben shaves the mustache he can look a lot younger and if he can’t his boyfriend Noah who played Evan on broadway right after him or Ben Levi Ross who played Evan on the National tour are other great options with younger faces. I just think ultimately they will go Ben or nothing.

Ben is Evan. Case closed. Were other actors very, very good as Evan? Yes. However Ben IS Evan.... there is no doubt about it that he should be Evan in the movie, the amount of older actors who portray teens in multiple movies is huge! A little make up and he's sorted!
I think people always say that when they have seen an actor as the first to be that character - Idina Menzel for example, IS Elphaba for me, Kristen Chenoweth IS Galinda. Ben Platt is Evan Hansen :) doesn't mean others don't perform it as good as they do, but the first person you see as thst character will always be the benchmark for that character.

He looks around 30 years old. Evan is 17 years old. He can’t play Evan, dude, it would be ridiculous. Sure, in the broadway show it doesn’t matter if he looks way older, but in a movie it’s different, what matters the most are the looks of the actors, and their acting, yes, but they can find other younger actor as talented as Ben to play Evan. There are a lot of people in the world, and just because Ben Platt is really good at playing the character, that doesn’t mean that there can’t be any other young boy who portrays Evan as good as him or even better.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but can we PLEASE stop adapting stage musicals to film? They always turn out to be mediocre. Please just do a quality recording of the stage productions.

They did. With the original cast. It's in some library. It's a part of a preservation project sorta thing.
But anyway, a film adaption is PERFECTLY acceptable, since it would have the ability to do some thing BETTER than the play. Just like the novel does some things better. Each form has their strengths. The film adaption could borrow from both the play and the novel, and add some new ideas to blend it all into something that'll bring out the strengths of film.
I feel like the film version should be a full-on musical. Maybe just four songs. Two from Evan (which can be musical-like), and two from Zoey (which can fit in realistically, like in the novel). The musical-style songs from Evan would just be us getting a glimpse inside his head; no-one else in the film would notice his singing.

I know many people think someone else should play Evan (seeing as Ben is 26), but I’d honestly be thrilled if it was Ben. Everyone recognizes that he has insane talent (as all of the Evan’s do), but I think it should be Ben because he was the one who made so many people interested in it in the first place. Not just that, I think with a bit of makeup and the magic of filmmaking, he really wouldn’t look too old. It would also be incredible to see him play Evan one last time, one that almost everyone could see. Just my opinion though, I will be excited if a film happens, no matter who plays Evan!
