Did you say you didn't recommend going out at night anywhere in johannesburg? Are you sure you're from the US
As an African American, I visited Joburg this past March, and had the time of my life. The people and the country stole my heart. I really wish they dispel this propaganda about South Africans don't like us and the crime rate is high. Hell the crime in the US is higher. Anyway, I'm looking forward to going back the first of the year and soon be relocating there. Thanks for sharing your experience and much blessings and Ubuntu!
Thanks for the feedback
We will be waiting. Rainbow Nation
Thank you for your input which is really making me decide the same thing.
Actually, no, the crime rate is higher in South Africa than in the US. If you just look at the homicide rate, it is 6.4 per 100,000 inhabitants in the US, while it is 45.5 per 100,000 in South Africa. These are official UN statistics. I do appreciate the sentiment, and it is true that South Africa is a great place. But let's not kid ourselves about crime.
I've never heard of Americans being treated badly. We always love having you guys here
They say that about every African country. Somehow they've convinced themselves that half the planet hates them even though most people don't even have an opinion on them. I guess that happens when you've massacred an entire country's population right after instituting a far worse system of oppression than even the apartheid govt.
@ASouthAfricanGirl I feel the love every time I visit. One of my favorite cities.
There's so much miss information about SA it's just sad and a lot people are missing out on amazing experiences because of what they often hear from the media and perhaps few individuals, African Americans are celebrated in SA and by far most people you would meet as a black American would be fascinated by you because there's just not many that visits SA.
My wife and I were in America a few years ago. We connected so beautifully with African Americans, so many said they’d love to visit Africa and the connection is just so undeniable. We’re all brothers and sisters
100% 🙏🏿
Thanks for sharing! I’m flying in on this Saturday. Excited to have the experience.
My pleasure. Hit me up on IG if you have any questions once you arrive.

+-welcome home in advance
I am South African and it's new to hear we don't treat black Americans well. It's a big lie usually from people who have never been to South Africa
It’s a big Twitter sentiment that gives that impression
If you want the truth listen to "The Real South Africa" that's a UA-cam channel owned by Americans here in SA
Respect
Always love in South Africa. Rumors of Africans don’t like Blacks Americans come from apices that fear Africans uniting with Black Americans. These fears come from certain groups in the USA who can’t handle it and fear competition if the two join forces. Even racist Americans fear Blacks Americans leaving the USA. And, so I’ve learned, there are some warp minded Black Americans groups are determined to keep Blacks Americans from expanding links to Africa. Very very bizarre people with nothing better to do than invent lies and seed hate.
It's quite shocking really
the best content from an American about SA i've seen tjhus far...please come back
I appreciate that. Definitely coming back.
Before I i went to SA, I got the comments that its unsafe/ they just want your money. And I asked, as opposed to Europeans wanting you to spend money at their businesses in their country... Make that make sense. Anyway, never felt unwelcome or even unsafe. I currently live in the US and id pick SA over US crime any day. At least i know i wont get shot at the grocery store on a random Tuesday.
🙏🏿
Thank you. You guys make us appreciate our beautiful country. ❤
Don't forget about the police
From what I have heard, the crime rate in Johannesburg is lower than the crime rate in 50 of the American major Cities. In particular the murder rate, but that doesn't mean that the Johannesburg crime rate is not high. My point is that if you can survive in 50 of the American major Cities, then you can survive in Johannesburg, because in Joburg the crime would be lower overall.
Interesting info. Thanks
@@travelconnect1 I heard this from a Black American Statician who lives in Midrand near Joburg on a research visa here in South Africa. He says the crime rate in Joburg is not as high as 50 of American major Cities and he is from New Orleans.
Yes. There are high crine rates all over the world. Including the U.S.
Talk about . The crime rate is higher here.
Don't forget travelconnect1 said there are 6 million people living in Joberg
Your video was very thorough and provided a lot of info on Joburg. Great work!

Remember their winter months! Everyone thinks it’s warm year round. It was in the low 30s in June but warmed as the day went on.
Good point. I like the summer and winter months in Johannesburg.
Dope perspectives! I'm going to be there in December hoping to have the same good time! Bless up!
Thanks Chris. Enjoy your stay.
How's it so far?
I live in Jozi and have to say that this video is the best and most comprehensive I have seen as a guide to the city. The only comment I have to make is that the reviewer stayed at the Hilton, an American hotel chain. A Hilton is a Hilton in London, Paris, NYC, or anywhere else in the World. We have many 5* hotels and he would have got a more authentic experience had he stayed in a South African owned and run hotel.
🙏🏿
I agree. Great video. I was disappointed in the hotel choice for same reason stated. However, most Americans are not aware of brands beyond those in the USA so they stay where they know. The reviewer is also in Hilton’s loyalty program so it would be the default place to consider economically.
That said, USA hotels are usually very boring compared to African /local hotels.
What South African owned hotels do you recommend? I'd love to stay at one when I return to South Africa?
@@KatrinaInStride There are many in Joburg and other cities. This is a quick list from google search but should be accurate (call property and ask). One thing for certain, African owned properties tend to vastly exceed American owned. And, African hotels rarely show inaccurate pictures presented online. Always truthful.
@@bcs2k1 I don't see a list. I can search Google to find hotels but I am asking for hotels that are recommended by South Africans as good hotels that are actually owned by South Africans and are not owned by foreign holding companies. But I appreciate you responding. 😊
Nice, thank you for this video. Nice insights for sure!

Joburg crime is as bad as Chicago, Detroit or Memphis. Americans from those cities shouldn’t worry about crime in Joburg. Also, most of the crime happens in some townships and sketchy areas such as Hilbrow. Sandton and Rosebank are relatively safe at night if you’re not stupid.
Lol as bad as chicago and detroit? Lol bro the average South African doesn't own a gun or has ever seen a gun 😂 unless they saw a police officer walk by or some
@MosesMatsepane I wouldn't move to either of those cities either.
@@travelconnect1 My point was that people from those types of cities will know how to navigate Joburg.
I am also curious who spreads the Cap that we don't like Americans, it's the wildest fiction story ever created. I know West Africans have some sort of an attitude towards Americas, but they have an attitude towards everyone. Most Africans are super friendly towards Americans.
@@MosesMatsepane man Joburg is the most populous city in S.A. and has triple the amount of people than Chicago.. if Chicago has the same crime rates as a city with triple its population that should tell you all you need to know that its not the same thing, Chicago punching above its weight .. as for Detroit yoh won't even get into that one
And the gun statement was just to show that in America they have become more desensitized to a tool that can take away a life literally in seconds. And they even sell it in Wal-Mart the same place they get food. I on the other hand have never even seen a gun in real life if not from law enforcement and can't even remember the last time a person in my family experienced crime. And i live in Joburg, and I've lived in both the north and soweto. So both ghetto and the burbs.. while they literally have guns in the same place they get food.. cmon man
I think you meant to say Johannesburg is not as bad of those cities you mentioned, there are so many upscale areas to live in Joburg which are fine to live without any issues. I have travelled, worked and live in US and Europe and I can tell you without any doubt Joburg is one of the best cities to live as a black man.
I love our AA bradas n sista always have

Don't forget Club Altitude its five star 💫
I have to check that on out next time I'm in Joburg.
Big thumbs up! I subscribe. This video did it for me. The only thing i did not like was idiot smoking in that Tuesday spot. Why all these places in Africa allow smoking? I'm a mature trendy guy, and this city seems tailor made for me. I live in Lauderhill south Florida, from NYC. I saw Louis Vuitton in that mall. Is there Hugo Boss has well? The only thing that is lacking is the beach. I'm going to save up , and visit. Has well, as looking for a nice house as well. You will find me in that first spot, and that roof top restaurant. I can't understand why you did not stay. I know you mention the crime, but I would take my chances with all those honey that's over there.
Definitely one of my favorite cities. If you're looking for a similar vibe but with a beach. Check out my Durban, South Africa video. Let me know what you think after you watch it.
@@travelconnect1Well that just a train ride away. I've been doing my study's. I'm going to watch it now and let you know, but I might get confused. Lol.
Would you recommend a BNB or hotel room for 4 adults? 8- 10 days.
A BNB is more cost effective. But it depends on you. Either is fine.
@@travelconnect1 thanks.
Which City Bus Line Travel To Soweto?

Who the hell is spreading these malicious rumours of Black Americans being treated badly in South Africa? 😲
I think people are speaking their personal experiences, but they should not be confused with the experiences of the masses. Everyone should go experience things for themselves before believing what that here in some cases.
Oh wow! Just came across your channel and subscribed. Enjoyed the tour. What's your voew of xenophobia in South Africa 🇿🇦? Thanks
Thanks
People can be stupid at times. What kind of a question is this. You ask as if there's a place called xenophobia where you can go, watch and form an opinion. Xenophobia is a continental phenomena. It's not an SA problem and it's not a permanent occurance. The USA is also having its own xenophobic problems wherein the Haitians are not welcome in many black dominated communities. Maybe you have another name for it but we in SA have the same issues that the AA have with foreigners. I'm happy your question was ignored.
@@elvinnybonjovi10 I concur. I would also like to add that xenophobia is not just a continental phonomena but a global one. SA is the only country in the world that has been given a rep to this common phonomena. I am South African based in the USA and I can tell you that USA citizens are xenophobic too; but it is excused as frustration of citizens due to foreigners occupying and taking resources meant for them. It is funny when people ask about South Africa's "xenophobia" not realizing their destain for Mexican, Haitans, Jamaicans, Dominicans, Bulgarians, Polish and other foreign nationals is actually xenophobic.

If you do then you need to make a thorough research on the places you want to visit because of hotspots that are spread apart from each other you might miss some gems because johannesburg has tons of activities happening every weekend, but i can tell you for free that Soweto, Sandton, Rosebank, Melrose, Hydepark and Mall of Africa are some of the places you can visit.
It's 12 million people in the greater area made up of 3 metropolitan areas
Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Mogale City.
The OR Tambo airport is actually in Ekurhuleni.
Johannesburg is made up of 11 individual cities.
1- Germiston
2- Kempton Park
3- Boksburg
4- Benoni
5- Alberton
6- Randburg
7- Rosebank
8- Sandton City
9- Roodepoort
10- Midrand
11- and Johannesburg inner city.
All these areas combined are 12 million people.
Wow
Welcome brother, but who are the people spreading rumours black Americans are not treated well by South Africans!
It the US media
Is it black Americans
Or African immigrants in the US!
Black Americans contribute positively to the South Africa tourism industry and economy just like other visitors from Europe and Asia!
This was something I heard from a few black Americans. That's why I thought it was important to share my personal experience for others who might have heard the same.
So it's other Africans like you that you kill in South Africa ??? Just asking

Everyone in the comment section is saying different numbers. I'm starting to think know one really knows. Lol
Wait a minute is there still racial tension in south africa 🇿🇦? Im white from the states too. So my real question is Johannesburg like the southern part of the states or is it like california where theres a lot of diversity?
It isn't racial tension like you see in America per se...it shows itself in the form of inequalites, lack of job opportunities, etc (a big reason why affirmative action was started in America). How else could 8% of the population (whites) hold the vast majority of the wealth. I'm not from there, but this is what I've been told and saw in some places. Hopefully someone from SA can jumb in and educate us both more.
From what i've seen in my visits to SA...it is nowhere near as diverse as America. But i'm not from there...I've just visited a few times.
I thought all Africa was poor, and I got surprised when see buildings

Bro are you serious about if the lower the crime rate 😂. Can you compare Joburg to any US cities in crime?
Yes. If they lower the crime rate.
I wouldn't move to any U.S city with a comparable crime rate as Johannesburg either. Not unless I had a significant business opportunity there.
At least we don’t have gang violence, and racial killings. We wear our hoodies with no fear of being racial profiling, we get stopped by cops with zero fear of being shot for just being black. There are so many places to live in, in Joburg alone without crime paranoia. So get the crime stereotype out your head and live life
The crime in Joburg isn't a stereotype. It's a fact. Relax fam, I love Johannesburg and have visited many times. I just wouldn't live in any city in the world (including cities in my own country) that has that high of a crime rate. Personally preference.
I was thinking the same thing. But I guess when you live in the thick of it you become callous to all the crime.
Well, each to his own. Jo'burg is not my kind of destination. If you live in any US city, Jo'burg is just another one which happens to be in SA. There are amazing places outside our cities, but I guess will not suit city folk. If it has to be a city, try Cape Town next...
