These microphones are used as a matched pair for a reason. Like recording acoustic guitars, overheads, cymbals. Sometimes I use them on shotgun snares, bottom/top. This form factor is also popular recording dialouge on the field, becase it has a smaller surface ,so it is less affected by the wind if you use them with a filter. Also it has a dynamic capsule and appreciates a nice dedicated preamp. Like a pair of Neve 1073spx ^_^
