I adore pigeons. I once saved a 2-weeks-old chick which had fallen out of the nest. It was fun to watch it grow into a beautiful bird and then live his happy life with a flock in a local park. Pigeons are quite often overlooked due to being omnipresent, unfortunately. Thanks for a great video! I hope more people will appreciate these interesting sweet birds.
I rescued one 3 months ago she was wet through cold and hungry I made her well again and have tried 3 times to set her free and she/he will not leave she has slept on my lap from the day we got it.i do love her.
ive have one right now sat on my sofa , its from a group thats visited my garden for a decade , it cant fly / its last flight was to my bird feeder , i saw a few others picking on it so i went and grabbed it , ive been showing it a bunch of exotic birds and animals it wont have seen before on yt 😂 , its not eating or drinking / i think its on its last day.
i love pigeons!!! i dont live close enough to any cities to see them often but when i went to philedelphia i had so much fun watching them!!! one day i would love to have a pet pigeon :D
My wife fell in love with a dove in a pet store so I bought it for her at xmas and it was a wonderful pet.very Friendly and goofy.loved playing with my wife's hair and had the run of our house except at night.our dog and cats never bothered him.loved xmas tree which we left up until summer for him.
I love pigeons, they are really clever to adapt so well in our dangerouse cities !. Full of people who despise them in general 😫. How nice to rehabilitate pigeons throu your delightfull video, they deserve it 🥰😍
I have started absolutely adoring pigeons recently, I feed them on my window throughout the day and go out into the streets to feed them by hand 2-3 times a day. I swear they are just so intelligent, I went out the other day like 15 miles away from where I usually go and there was this one pigeon that came and sat by me which was adorable, I didn't have any food for it at the time but it kept shifting itself closer to me so gradually as if it knew I was a friend
@@ripeager9338 i do the same, and now that I've got to know their personalities I appriciate them. They're greatful for those who feed them! Thx for feeding them 💓
Loved your video ☺My Dad had racing pigeons growing up. I've always known them as the thoroughbreds of the sky 😂they were well loved. I keep all the pigeon feathers I find, they are always beautiful & in perfect condition 😍
I've rescued many pigeons over the years but my favorite was one with the feathers pointed up on the back of her head. She was the only one that could go anywhere in the house and had no cage. I just built a corner shelf up high for her. Miss Tuftsy.😢
Pigeons are great! I didn't know about Cher Ami the war hero pigeon. That's a great fun fact. On Sundays we'll go to the park and feed the pigeons and crows bird seeds.
I love pigeons! They're intelligent beautiful, extremely loyal & in contrast of some that think they're dirty they're actually very clean. I feel very bad for their suffering in extreme cold winters so I feed them.❤
The most interesting fact I learnt was about their vertical takeoff and I came to this video because I saw a pigeon and was wondering if they would make good pets because I know they're intelligent enough to live in cities so I was just wondering and you guys answered my question with a lot more facts! Thanks so much! have a great day! 💜
I'm gaining the trust of a big grey pigeon I named Martha, he brings his mate and walked in on me cleaning a motel room the other day. I recognize him and he's always the first to show up. I work at the clown motel in Nevada and I encourage everyone I encounter to feed them some bird safe foods. They're really sweet and a flock usually follows me back home. Treat them well, they're new to life tryna figure it out just like us. They're just trying to survive like we all are.
Wonderful video about another often-disparaged bird that is simply smart enough to take advantage of all the opportunities humans provide. I agree, pigeons are beautiful and interesting birds, and I appreciate that you also pointed out the need for kindness toward them and all wildlife!😊❤
Informative & enjoyable to watch. During the past 2 years when commuters not in city the pigeons' feet were normal, before that always saw gross feet, missing feet waking on stumps (string & fake wig hair gets tangled in toes cutting them off). A Freind & I rescue songbirds that hit the glass skyscrapers in Newark NJ, Most birds that hit the skyscrapers perish on impact, or when fall to the cement pavement. TRT made a video named 'Window Strikes in the Business District' of us picking up Warblers. The pigeons do not hit ( maybe cause their home) but did rescue on two different occasions white wedding pigeons that hit, they are not use to being in a city -- surprised the hawks did not eat them as they are easy prey as not streetwise.
I've got an X-acto knife, a small pair of surgical scissors, tweezers and a dental pick that I keep for cutting the string and loose hair from around their toes. If you get to it early enough, it's fairly easy to get rid of, and the circulation in their toes returns, but the longer it stays on, the tougher it is to get it loose, and the more chance there is of him losing the toe. The bird doesn't understand what's going on and freaks out. He starts flailing and struggling, so the trick is to hold him very firmly, and speak to him very softly and gently, and that helps to cool him down enough so you can work. Whenever possible, if you can have a friend hold him while you perform the procedure, it's easier, and there's less chance of slipping and causing another injury. I have done this hundreds of times, and every time I do it, I can see the relief in the bird's eyes and in his walk. It's a bit of an ordeal for them while it's happening, but there's nothing like seeing them once they're free from that crap on their feet and toes.
People just walk as if there not there poor things I think there amazing little thing I love pigeons and should respect them if you like my comment put a like 😊
I was observing a flock of local pigeons the other day and noticed that one pigeon appeared to be a few millimeters bigger that the rest of the flock, but I couldn’t make a factual confirmation right away because the pigeon was flying high. Next week I saw the same flock feeding on the ground and noticed that suspect pigeon I saw before was not only slightly larger but it also had a smaller beak.
We as townsmans definitly gave to these amazing birds a bad fame. My perception of these guys has changed over time! They're so cool and hilarious just to observe, and the sounds they produce, and how male show off before females :) They are no doubts are pretty much intelligent birds.
I have a 2 year old rescue from London. Proper monkey feet job. Fed her from young chick. Jim. Now I have another. Fed from chick.canada mourning dove.frankie. doves/pigeons are amazing
i have 3 pigeons and i love them i clean up after them , there is no problem with this , they leave and observe me from a distance when i finish they always comes back because they know that i will not harm them.
My bobwhite quail did that all the time if they felt cold. They would also seek out sunlight with the same open-winged sleepy behavior if it has been longer than usual since they had a chance to catch some sun.
In Dutch, there is also no linguistic distinction between doves and pigeons; columbiform birds are "duif," which has the same root as "dove", and in German they are "taube". Unfortunately, Dutch sailors and traders, and the synanthropic mammals that they introduced, were responsible for the extinction of the Dodo, the largest of all columbiform birds.
My question is how to deliver by where to go that question #1 #2 how do they know the magadifireld of earth r they magent too? How the know where is home I always love pigeon since little and still do until I die awesome birds
Do pigeons make good pets? i really like them, and there are so many, it seems like a kindness to take one home. But that would probably have to be a younger one. Do breeders breed pigeons? thanks, i know this is a year later than the last comment, but if anyone knows about pigeons as pets, please let me know! many thanks!
Pigeons make great pets; I would suggest looking into adopting one, from either a pigeon rescue or a shelter. Sometimes domestic pigeons need to find a new home, like if their care taker passes away or if they are removed from an abusive situation. Other types of rescued pigeons include ones that were used for ceremonies (like the white "doves" released at a wedding) that have lost their way and don't have survival skills. There are many circumstances in which a pigeon may need a loving home, so it's worth seeing if there is a service in your area that helps make this possible!
Interesting facts here & there. Courtship by male throughout the year is bizarre, very unusual, ignoring seasonality. Pigeon milk may be key? 2 at most clutch size, but numerous. Extremely low mortal rates in chicks? I thought it was only hummingbirds (swallows under certain conditions in level flight) that produce lift during upstroke.
I lost my wife one year almost to the day that i found Steve...he was bleeding and his right eye was destroyed..probably from cats. He now lives in my bathroom and I called him Steve. He is very wise and talks to me with his wonderful coo's.
They won’t die if you take them from their parents. Smh, if you want to raise pigeons get so,e young, buy chick starter grow, a large tip syringe, warm some water mix into the chick feed until slurry, put into syringe into their mouth, you may have to open it for a few days, they will begin opening their mouth for your feedings. When their crop feels semi full they’ve had enough. Feed twice a day until they begin showing signs of wanting to not take food from you. At that point offer them food independently, if they don’t eat it they will let you know when they are too hungry which you will I’m turn feed them the slurry. Pigeons are super smart and you’ll love having them.
I 🩶💜💚🩶 pigeons and so appreciate your educating the human beings who weren't aware that pigeons and doves are from the same family: Columbidae. As someone with a pet pigeon, I’m happy to hear people care for them
💯
I unconditionally love them.🩶💜💚
I always say pigeons are the peacekeepers of the birds and they tidy up all the seed the others spill. I ❤️ them x
I love pigeons. My family always calls them my "friends," lol. Like if they see them gathered on the street they'd say, "Oh, there go your friends."

Great video. Pigeons are the fastest bird in a straight line. Falcons are only faster when they stoop from a height.
