  • Once again, my mum shares her knowledge and memories explaining how rationing worked during the war and how she and her family coped. She gave me a list of weekly rations for one person. You'll have to remember that one ounce is equivalent to 25g.
Bacon/Ham 4oz, Butter 2oz, Cheese 2oz, Margerine 4oz, Cooking fat 4oz, Sugar 8oz, Tea 2oz, Egg x 1 fresh with additional dried egg, Jam 1lb every 2 months, Sweets 12oz every 4 weeks, dried fruit and Meat at 1 shilling and 2 pence (1/2d) bought roughly 2 chops.
You were allowed unrestricted fruit and vegetables (in season and from this country) fresh fish (if you lived near to where fish was caught, bread and grain.

Absolutely fascinating, thank you very much for sharing that with UA-cam. Your mum interviews very well and is very interesting to listen to. Ps. I followed the link from escaping the matrix for good.

Hello Dilly and Mum, Thanks so so much for this, very very interesting, i did hear ( i may be wrong) that the ministry of food saw grain was more important for bread making and other human consumption than to feed chickens on the farms thus eggs being more scarce. I work in ounces here, i have an old set of scales with weights, then have a conversion chart for the modern grams, ha ha i love the old ways. ICE ON THE INSIDE of the house ! wow !. I never peel my homegrown carrots or potatoes, unless the potatoes have potato scab. i agree Dilly never waste a single scrap of food. i even put a little vinegar in the bottom of sauce bottles to get the last out. Sorry i missed this but thanks for the reminder, thankyou for taking the time for this, im going to put a link to this on my channel to take people to your channel and this video as i feel its very interesting for smallholding life . Take good care and stay safe

Thank you for your kind word and the link to your channel. I agree about loving the old ways. Often, new doesn't mean better (or progress for that matter). Keep on living the dream Gary, so I can live it through your videos. Take care
