I knew you would love this! This is Anneke's song which she usually sings with Marcella on the harmony. Marcella skilfully changes her voice as she harmonises with Anneke and Floor in turn. As a side note, Arjen Lucassen who is behind the Ayreon project was the first to release a record which included Floor. :-)

Floor was extra inspired by Anneke because Anneke is Dutch like Floor. So the fact that she was a fellow Dutch woman made it even more relatable for Floor when she first heard Anneke sing as lead singer in Dutch band The Gathering during the early nineties.

If you see more songs from this live performance you will see that Marcela Bovio is one of The Ayreon Angels, the backing singers with Lisette van den Berg and Irene Jansen ( yes, Floor's sister).
For The Human Equation, Marcela was chosen by Arjen Lucassen as singer for the "wife-part" of the album and show.
Arjen wanted to give an unknown artist a chance to sing in The Human Equation and asked the fans all over the world to send in their recordings of their singing.
Eventually 4 remainded and he chose Marcela and had her flown over to The Netherlands from Mexico.
The rest is history as Marcela stayed and lives in Amsterdam and is part of the band Mayan and also does solo work. Last album: Dark Horse | White Horse in 2021 .

Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. About Marcela, she was basically discovered by Ayreon, she was a part of Stream of Passion, another Ayreon project where he played the guitar, you should also check them out.
And just like Floor took inspiration from Anneke, so did Marcela; she used to sing The Gathering (former Anneke's band) covers back in Mexico.
You definitely need to check out more of Marcela Bovio. Her work with Stream of Passion and MaYan is incredible. Out of the three ladies in this number, she is my favorite. Her passion and range is incredible. When she goes up into her head voice, all the hair on my body stands up.

some information for you Anna Maria "Anneke" van Giersbergen was the lead singer of the band The Gathering (1994-2007) She is presently doing an solo career but she has also done multi callaborations for example with Within Temptation.
Marcela Bovio is an mexican singer and violinist who is currently in the symphonic death metal band MaYan she has done backing vocals for Epica and is one of the founding members of the band Vuur. She also does multi collaborations as well.

To get Anneke's solo bearings, watch "The Gathering - Travel (TG25)" version. Giersbergen is pronounced close to how you would pronounce Gears-bergen in Engish. The second part of Arjen sounds like Jen in Jennifer.

Marcela is an interesting singer, having been brought-up in Mexico, she has naturalised in The Netherlands and appears in many of Arjen Lucassen's projects. Here she sings the Alto line to Anneke and Floor's Soprano melodies. This is a concertt which features much of Arjen's work and is entitled Ayreon Universe. The founder of Aereon, Dutch Arjan Lucassen, I've seen life more than 30 years ago in the speed metal band Vengeance. I've met in person Anneke van 'Geersbergen' (pronounciated) 9 years ago. Ayreon ( you pronounced it right the first time 👍) isn't a " band " as such rather a project by a Dutch composer / multi instrumentalist / genius called Arjen Lucassen . Such is the respect and esteem that Arjen commands he can call on some of the world's best vocalists and instrumentalists both solo performers and from some of the biggest bands ( usually metal ) .
Sadly because of logistics and performers own schedules it is very seldom that there are live Ayreon concerts - but there are some and most of the live stuff is available on UA-cam ( luckily ! )

I am a huge fan of Floor ever since I heard her sing on the German TV show "Sing meinen Song" (Sing my Song) last year and checked out her other projects and bands. To see and hear her participate in this Ayreon project was an extra treat for me. And I was also lucky to have seen Anneke support Floor on her solo tour in Germany earlier this year. It was amazing. 😊🎶👏🎸🎶😄

Sorry to correct you: Marcela's earlier band was Elfonia. Pretty well known in Mexico by some. And Stream of Passion was a project of Arjen and Marcela, after they had worked together. There is at least one more album from Stream of Passion, where Arjen is no longer included, stating "I'm not needed for this to go further."

Yay! You did Ayreon! I love this band (well, it's more of a "collective" of various musicians and vocalists gathered together by Arjen Lucasson, the mastermind behind Ayreon). Almost every album from Ayreon is a concept album, with the various characters parts sung by the artists that Arjen has selected. I'm pretty sure that everyone that he has asked to be part of his albums has said yes. I have seen 3 live shows (videos, not in person) and all three have been magical. For The Theater Equation show, they recreated the entire The Human Equation album with each singer acting our their parts on stage...it was amazing! Anyways, I'm rambling so I'll wrap this up by saying thanks for the Ayreon reaction and please do more! Cheers!

Ayreon is another wonderful project that Floor has been called to collaborate on for many years together with many other wonderful and talented singers and musicians. The Ayreon project was born in the brilliant mind of Arjen Lucassen, a Dutch musician and singer like Floor. The Electric Castle, which this is from, is a truly wonderful piece. Highly recommend Isis and Osiris, the opener. Arjen is one of the few people in the world that can take drastically different characters, and sometimes even drastically different vocals and styles of music, smash them all together into a rock opera, and have it not only work every time, but be amazingly epic.

You had the pronunciation pretty right and I am no linguist whatsoever, far from it, very far. But I did some digging.
Ayreon is really an easy phonetic representation of Arjen, many European continentals say a j as y, it comes from ancient Greek where the j was just a different script to define a Y or "ee" sound but as a consonant not a vowel.
The European continentals also make an r in more of an "air" sound too, so for Arjen you get Air - ee - onn, the "en" being a bit French-like.
I am no linguist, coming up for 11 years living in France, if they speak to me like a 4yo child I can get by, otherwise its a huge struggle and often my Franglais misses the mark. 🙂 In defence, I live in an isolated house and have no real contact from one week to the next, that and being old the grey matter is slow and unreceptive. The defence rests its case. . . . . .

Anneke is 8 years older than Floor. Floor just turned 42 on Feb 21 and Anneke turns 50 in March. I don't know what the Netherlands is doing but they have a large majority of the female lead metal singers. They are turning out some talented ladies.

Anneke van Giersbergen. Gearsbergen. The first e in Bergen is pronounced as the e in let. The second as the U in gun.
The G is not pronounced as the G in gun because it’s a Dutch G. If you cough you make a sound like uche uche. That sound of the ch.
