  • How to make healthy seasoning from bacon grease right at home for free!
    I have been doing this for a while now and a viewer asked me if I strained the brown bits out so I just decided to make a video showing how I do this along with cooking a favorite breakfast in my new Field Company #12 cast iron skillet. Sit back, enjoy the bacon ASMR sounds, and see how this Field skillet handles 3 batches of breakfast foods! Thanks for stopping by & please remember to give a thumbs up and leave a comment or question below!

    I'm going to try this. Seems like a waste to throw it out

      I love to cook with it as well as season between meals. It is one of the healthiest fats you can use for cooking along with butter, avocado oil, lard, and olive oil.

    Do you sell your pots and pans on Amazon or Ebay, looking for something with value as we don't have anything like this here in New Zealand, except Chinese imports ...🙂🙂🙂

      I only have a few pieces left. I am not restoring any new pieces for sale for personal reasons. There are plenty of folks who do sell on eBay, some are better than other sellers. Make sure the description of the pan is thorough so you can get a real good idea of the pan's condition.

      That was one reason I held off buying them for as long as I did. That said, it really doesn’t seem to matter.

    What size is your burner? Mine are only 9.5" so trying to figure out if this 12 will work or not. Thanks

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  Рік тому

      It is 11 3/8" across and accommodates smaller pans as it is a 3 size burner. In this case, I use the largest size and allow for it to warm up before adding my cooking fat and cooking. Hope this helps.

    I was waiting for the tip on free seasoning and never saw it. I now assume that it's the bacon grease that was strained and saved? I've been doing that a long time. Congrats on the weight loss!

      If you access my playlist, I have several videos on how to season a skillet from start to finish. You could use bacon grease (I tend to use it for actual cooking as it works fantastic), but I use Easy Beezy or BuzzyWaxx for regular oven seasonings when redoing a skillet or seasoning a new one. Hope this helps and thanks on the weight loss!

    Great job on the weight loss. I am super carb sensitive. several years ago I lost quite a bit of weight on Atkins. I need to go back on, but for now I am letting my 91 year old mom who lives with me and craves sweets and a husband with cancer who needs lots of carbs run the food show here. I realized today I hadn't seen a video from you in a while. I always enjoy them!

    I strain my bacon grease through a double layered paper towel and it comes out nice and creamy off white and debris free. I do the same thing when reusing frying oil and it comes out perfectly clear and clean in the storage bottle. The paper towel flows almost as fast as screen strainer and a LOT faster than using coffee filters. The screen dies take out the chunks, but a a paper towel will remove even more. I keep my old grease in a plastic cottage cheese sized container and I can just put the paper towel inside the top of the container and just pour the fairly hot grease into the plastic containers for storage. Then put it back into the fridge to quickly cool.

      Agreed! No sticking at all. In fact they say NOT to build initial seasoning with bacon due to sticking but I've had no issues as the scrambled eggs proved! If I tried that in my stargazer, it might be one hot mess! lol

    What is the best vegan kosher option for seasoning CI pans? Palm oil? Avocado oil? Coconut oil?

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  9 місяців тому

      I am not vegan and use typically lard or Crisco, but I would say either avocado oil or coconut oil would work. The smoke points are high, so make sure you have your oven hot enough to bake on your seasoning! Best of luck!

    Why do you keep the bacon fat for and the burnt scrapings for

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  2 роки тому +1

      I keep the strained bacon grease to use for cooking and mini seasonings for cast iron maintenance. I discard the burnt pieces in the coffee can as shown in the video.

    I have a CI pan labeled Wagner which cracked. How do I prevent my CI pans from cracking, besides the obvious of not heating it excessively, not plunging it hot into water .

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  9 місяців тому

      Good question! Other than keeping the water temperature similar to the temperature of your pan, the best ways are to avoid dropping your skillet, or not stacking them on top of each other if moving them from one location to another. The vibration of your vehicle could crack your skillet. This did happen to me once as I was bringing skillets home I had purchased. If you are forced to do this, stack them between towels to absorb the vibration.

    1/18/24 Congratulations on your weight loss , that's awesome . I have one tip for you , when you cook bacon put it in a cold pan then heat your pan on 4 1/2 setting. 2 things will happen, 1 the bacon will be less likely to curl and it won't stick. I have several different brands of cast iron including Field. My bacon never sticks and after I drain the fat out I literally just wipe out the pan and it's clean.

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for the tip! Actually, I have started using my oven to bake my bacon. I put it between two sheets of parchment paper (the top layer to prevent oven splatters). It's super easy, the bacon is crispy just the way I like it and I can use my skillet to cook my eggs and other items! That said, it wouldn't make for an interesting video! lol Thanks on your tips, kind words, and for watching! :-)

      Nutritional yeast flakes that provide complex B vitamins for better absorption. It has a cheesy flavor and tastes great in eggs and other like dishes. I buy mine from Amazon (Sari Foods). Hope this helps.
