  • The SS Point Reyes Shipwreck
Built in 1944 as a launch boat that took soldiers from air craft carriers to port in the Bay Area in World War II. It later became a salmon fishing boat.
It ran on Tomales Bay in the 1960s and 1970s. A local bought the boat and brought it to Inverness, CA, with plans to restore it. However, those plans never happened, and the boat washed up on a sandbar in Tomales Bay.
In 2016, the boat caught fire when some photographers were trying to get a backdrop of sparks behind the ship. Even though there was damage, the boat remained somewhat in a nice enough condition that it had remained a place where people would stop to see the boat.
It has long been a popular place for locals and artists who visit the area frequently.
On our visit yesterday, October 7, 2023, you can see that the ship has dramatically changed over the winter of 2022-23. The front of the boat has collapsed, where you used to see the name of the ship. I am forever grateful that we were able to visit the boat several times last year.

The landscape around that area looks amazing! It's interesting to learn about the history of that ship. Even if it was in rough shape, it's still interesting to see.

Looks a very tranquil location and loved the blue sky and reflections in the river. Always sad to see a boat abandoned and gradually breaking up. Always makes you think about its history. Thanks for the video!

Beautiful area and even though the boat is falling apart, it's still so interesting to see. A bit of a fixer upper 😀
