Excellent writing and story telling skills embodied in sweet melody. But that last verse in which she got the policeman to change his mind was just amazing.
Cayman Islands Were are you! They Don't make Music like this any more. Oh God this is when Soca was SOCA... Marchel can't Touch this. Batabano Carnival 1992 it give me the chill. I Start to Cry now :( What happen to Soca--- What happen to the music these days they don't make music like this anyone or what?
This song is a classic but timeless, it could be released 2015 and win road march. I miss all of the old soca and calypso too. The problem is today all of the new soca stars are trying to reach an "international" market instead of just focusing on what the West Indian community likes. The funny thing is my dad use to complain about soca in the late 90s and say it was rubbish, he said Super Blue is the one who originated modern day soca with all of his "jump up" music in the early 90s. Things evolve and change in life so I guess we shouldn't expect things to stay the same.
+unf2008 You're right. The authenticity and essence are done wid Soca music. "Outsiders" of cultural music gravitate towards the music for its purity and authenticity. Too much Ragga Techno BS calling it Soca music
+unf2008 I recently took an interview with a Trini artists "Jillionaire" and he said something that is a little out of context but fits nicely here. " I think that anybody that's going to complain about what the youth are doing are old and disconnected and should be talking about what the youth are doing." Fact is there is a lot of soca that is out there that is not machine generated, like music from Farmer Nappy, Kes (sometimes), and Olatunji. I'm an American living in Norway and I can find it I'm sure you can. The fact is, soca music was conceived by a group of artists that were consuming and internalizing global music. In an interview I took with Pelham Goddard, he said soca was created by incorporating elements from disco, R&B, funk and soul. so of course a dance music, soca, is going to incorporate elements from other global dance musics like EDM, dancehall, and trap.
Jedi Master Syknys I believe that soca influence is heavy in the EDM scene now. Go listen to a set from Major Lazer, Diplo or Skrillex. I have heard djs playing bunji and kes Before Beyoncé concerts. Soca is bigger than people think. We may not have a true international star but the influence is definite
Those were the best days, Super Blue I miss you. Remember when: P.S.A. grounds brass festival. Soca Monarch in the Stadium in its earlier days, when Super climbing on the boxes and Ronnie wearing those long trench coats. Those were the good old days
It is bcos of the African Rhythms under it. I have been trying to figure out why the old calypso and soca is so different from today. I finally figured it out. AFRICA!

Seeing Super perform at soca monarch in his day was special he would literally just show up n not say a word n the crowd went crazy lol I’ve never seen any other artiste command a crowd like him as well as his climbing antics def a master showman I love Machel as well but super is hands down my favorite of all time the goat in my books as far as soca n not calypso goes
Oh gosh machel. Machel is such an boss but yet he just can't be like super blue. Anyway no point comparing. I glad for all ah dem but I ain't play miss dese days. Big up old school. More life
+Surry Maharaj well... first you can thank Jamaican dancehall culture, not Machel, for the "machine generated shit" but really Machel wasn't the first to do it. Super Blue was. But I really don't understand why anyone would be cynical towards artists for changing their sound. If you haven't heard about it there is a phenomenon that occurs in business called the law of supply and demand. This means that a product, in this case the music, would not be profitable and would therefore not be put out on the market unless there was a demand for it. This means the that your sarcastic gratitude towards Machel Montano is highly misdirected. You really should be chastising the Trini public for buying into the "machine generated shit". but I recently took an interview with a Trini artists "Jillionaire" and he said something that is a little out of context but fits nicely here. " I think that anybody that's going to complain about what the youth are doing are old and disconnected and shouldn't be talking about what the youth are doing." Fact is there is a lot of soca that is out there that is not machine generated like the music Farmer Nappy, Kes (sometimes), and Olatunji and in fact the majority of Machel's new album Monk Evolution is not machine generated you just need to find it instead of wining about it what you don't like on a youtube video thread. I'm an American living in Norway and I can find it I'm sure you can. The fact is, soca music was conceived by a group of artists that were consuming and internalizing global music. +unf2008 This is a very intelligent comment. Factual indeed
