Man, I haven't seen a vintage bottle in years! My uncle back in Poland had a bottle of the aftershave with the dark brown cap and would wear it camping. He was one of those guys who shaved with a straight razor and everything. A great video Chris!

Wonderful video! I agree about the concentration. I wear TABU by Dana, and I love it. I only need two sprays! It lasts all day. Very spicy, warm, and syrupy, love it!

I wore the 1977 vintage as an 18-year-old. It was a beautiful beast. I have a bottle of the Gentleman’s Line version and it’s good enough to still evoke fond memories of wearing the vintage version.

Brings back a ton of memories. Just how I'm picturing it in my mind -from my dad's drawer.
Amazing frag. You're in luck, Chris... the vintage version!

    Absolutely gorgeous fragrance.
I am just wearing it, and I have to admit it outclasses many expensive niche fragrances.
The current versions of the old Aramis fragrances are very well made and close to the original ones.

Great review! Got very interested in this after watching Maurice Roucel himself answer a question about which fragrance he wished he would have made. " many, one in particular is a lesser known fragrance. . Devin"
Fortunately it's cheap so I got a bottle on the way.

I have the new version. Brilliant. I get a little dunhill, a little polo, a little kouros. The pachouli is heavier than the original. But they did a great job with it.

I bought the modem version today, and it smells fantastic; reminding me of a lighter, mere refined Yatagan.
Do you think buying the vintage version is worth the price, or am I ok with the current one?
    Cheers!

    • @MehulPatel007

@@uzi_187 yes, it's danker, some say ranker, the artemisia, caraway, & leather is noticable, but cut with galbanum, pine, & oakmoss...this takes balls to carry

I think all of the Gentleman's Collection is considered EDC concentration and lasts a very long time. I wore New West in 95 degree heat and it lasted all day this last summer where some of my other fragrances with higher concentration would die off on 2-3 hours. Aramis always gives you that bang for your buck and good performance in my experience.

This one just sounds right up my alley, I've been searching high and low for this one...
However, I need some help people !
Since I've been seeing these two very specific "types", can anyone tell me what the difference is between (both vintage versions/bottles):
    - Country Eau de Cologne
    and
    - Light Sporting Cologne
In general they both look identical but I'm not sure as to which one is which ! Meaning also that I don't know which one to get...

    • @scentland4753
      @scentland4753  4 роки тому +1

Never heard of the Light Sporting Cologne. Devin definitely has vintage and re-bottled version, both called Country Cologne and fairly similar though obviously the vintage is the real deal

    • @micked_pirateclimber367
      @micked_pirateclimber367 4 роки тому

@@scentland4753 After some digging I was able to figure out what's the deal:
Apparently Devin has three concentrations, so to speak, in the order of:
      - Country Cologne being the highest and standard cologne we all know
      - Light Sporting Cologne is the middleman between the Country Cologne and aftershave
      - Country Aftershave obviously being the lowest
I came to the conclusion after I saw a listing on eBay of the Light Sporting Cologne with the box and on the backside of the very box were the three concentrations listed, with three squares beside their names and the respective numbers of squares filled in !
Of course, the vintage is the way to go !
Either when there was only "Devin" on the sticker or the one you presented my good sir, these two beinf the late '70s and early '80s !!!
Chris, thank you so much for everything and leading us on this one ! Cheers !!!

I know I’m in the minority, but I think this is one of the best in the Gentlemen’s Collection. I get a lot of pine and carnation on my skin, and I love it.

Bourbon+whiskey+Aramis Eau de Toilette ➕ It smells like Azzaro Pour Homme whips+Ralph Lauren's Safari for Men whiff. Classic, isn't it?
It has a masculine smell reminiscent of astringent, spicy, hard-boiled.
It's like Detective Philip Marlowe in Raymond Chandler's novel.
Over time, it also smelled like incense.
It has a nice, classical, calm smell that looks like an adult.

The warmth you mentioned in combination with the other notes makes something to irritated me on the reissue. Still waer it from time to time but its the least favorite from the gentlemans collection...while Havana beeing my absolute favorite.
