This is one area IL-2 is so much better than DCS. The aircraft physics are always a joy to see in game, either from shooting at other aircraft, watching midair collisions, or crash landing, I have been playing for years and it never gets old.
Yeah, I remember I crash landed over a treeline in an A10 in DCS and the plane just explodes, while in IL2 at the speed I was going I might have a chance to crash land, it isn't a big difference in the end, but it looks and feels better the way IL2 does it
the first and second parts can be safely played and they do not age.

Crash physics way better than DCS - Flight physics way worse than DCS
i see IL-2 Sturmovik has some great colision physics and stuff, but i think they should consider soft body deformation physics too because sometimes it seem too stiff and it while it should actually bend and fold in on itself.
Quite sure it's very difficult to code soft body deformation for aircraft like the ones in we currently have
soft body collisions at such high speeds might just look weird (especially since aircraft tend to tear)
but they could make it so the nose of planes can get ripped to pieces, the cockpit could collapse, and the belly could be torn up aswell, wouldnt that be something?

Yes, BeamNG does have softbody planes and you can see why it is not used in flight simulators.
Soft body is the best for simulating crashes, but does not acurately model the dynamics of an aircraft when its actually flying. They feel kinda 'jiggly' and i think this is the limitation of soft body physics. You are balancing realistic deformation with realistic rigidity, so it makes sense for a crashing game and not much snese for a flying game.
If you think about it, Renzic is either the best or the worst IL-2 player. All of their videos is just crashing and bailing out, however, this one is only 8 minutes long, meaning that like every player they crash and bail out, he is only able to muster up around 8-12 minutes of crash/bailing out content per video.
Or he doesn't want to make a 20 minute video of him crashing

If you're talking about the one above the cockpit, if my memory serves me right, they're either part of navigation or part of communication. Either way, it's an antenna of some sort.

@@Rockethead293 but BeamNG isnt laggy and it has more going on, 10 car wrecks at a time and no lag.. and its on the ground, so theres also foliage and other details all the time, like shadows, wet spots. I just dont know, I feel like it should be possible and I would bet we see something like that in the future.
@@J4ME5_ Uh, planes are much bigger. And Beam isn't laggy? I have a ryzen 5 and a 3080 and sometimes still get 30 fps

Why do you always use German planes
Bro all of these “realistic” crashes are kinda unrealistic because in some of the crashes he has total control of the plane but decides to go down because his engine is emitting a little bit of smoke or other instances he just collides with another plane.
Most of the time they crash with “A little bit of smoke” the pilot is dead. Another factor to that is that control surfaces have wires running to them. It is not uncommon for AAA to hit those wires cutting control of that control surface. Also many of the crashes the crew have either bailed out or does not have the reaction time to pull off. In essence pilot error. Such as the Fw-190 in this video hitting the B-26 in a collision probably stalled his aircraft by pulling to hard. The Fw-190 has a tendency to almost go flat against your direction of travel in those cases, therefore if the pilot is unable to gain control back it is very probable you will collide.
