  • Jesus called his disciples the "salt of the earth" in the Gospel of Matthew:
"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything but is thrown out and trampled under foot." (Matthew 5:13)
Salt is a key ingredient to so many of our foods. Salt makes food taste better. But if salt didn't have any taste, then it would useless and pointless for us to eat.
As the salt of the earth, Christian disciples make the world a better place. We serve God by serving others and unite ourselves with their suffering to walk together towards joy and peace.
Unfortunately, we can also lose our love of God like salt losing its taste. Without that love in our hearts, our effectiveness in the world fades.
Instead, stay close to the Lord. Let the love of God inspire you to make the world a better place.

Salt is a preserver - it's preserves life. Taste is only temporary...

Yep, and it's essential to life. Without it, animals get sick and can even die.
Back to preservation, the question is how. Salt kills and resists pathogens. Patho- = bringing about death, demise, decay.
The sins of the world, the deceits of the devil and the wickedness of the human heart are all pathological.
To be salt it to resist and protect against those things.

You should check out “The Cultural Dictionary of The Bible” by John J Pitch. There is an interesting explanation as to what the expression “salt of the earth” means.
Anyway, thank you for making this video.
