Pickups can make a world of difference. My first guitar was a cheap Silvertone Strat copy. Years later I replaced the cheap electronics and put in some Tonerider Classic Blues and the guitar sounds fantastic. 20+ years later and the guitar still gets regular use along with my expensive Fenders.

I completely agree 👍 many make the argument that there is some kind of magical properties to a maple neck that Fender uses verses a maple neck produced by another manufacturer or body wood that has some magical tones that you get from one wood or another. In acoustic guitars, that argument holds up, and I agree. With electric guitars, not so much. Like you, I have completely replaced the electronics with genuine Fender parts, and after years of playing this guitar, I wouldn't trade it. It looks great plays amazing and sounds terrific. What else do you need?

I put a Tex mex loaded pickguard in a squier classic vibe and was happy with the change. But I also changed to fender branded tremolo . It’s not as good as my American Strat but it closed the gap.If your on a budget like most of us try adjusting your pickup height you may find the tone your looking for for free, and who doesn’t like free 👍

I'm glad you found your sound. That's great. I did, too, with this combo

Cool...was looking at these for my Indio Cali Classic. Awesome 100 dollar guitar. Thanks for the review. I think I will get some of these.

Hi 👋, ya some love them (me & many) and some don't. I would say definitely use 250k pots, for these are very bright and crisp on their own. The .022uf caps work okay for tone but definitely give the bridge its own tone control, Position #2 comes alive with quack

I’ve been thinking about getting a set of tex mex pickups on a Harley Benton, and after many videos and discussion treads, im decided. i’ll do it

They are excellent pickups, 1 piece of advice I'd share is to use 250k CTS or Bournes pots. Don't go cheap here. I initially installed 500k pots, and frankly, the overall sound was way too bright. Tex-Mex pickups don't need any extra highs. Just sayin'
Good luck, and when you get it done, let me know how they sounded for you.

As long as you got a good body, neck ,literally everything else can be upgraded to the Max and have a sweet guitar. I need a guy named Stewart Dowling that won a guitar competition in Pittsburg on Sears and Roebuck guitar,so,ya

In one of my project strats or partscaster I used tex mex pups. Imo they have a nice stray tone but like you said it's not to glassy or ice pick sounding. There is other pups I like better but the tex mex gives you a good bang for the buck.

I put Tex Mex pups in my Squier Strat & they made a big difference & improvement of the sound. The ceramic pups that were in it sounded too chimey all the time.
    Great video & information 👍👍

Thank you, like I said in the video this is hotly debated among guitar players. Some love the Tex Mex and some are the opposite. In this Indio Cali Classic it worked out great, glad they worked out for you too!

I just ordered a set of Tex-Mexs for my Carlo Robelli.

Good choice! I would, too. I wished I had not sold my Carlo Robelli. It's a great guitar. The set I put in my Monoprice two tone blue rock! Transformed the sound.

They’re essentially the older American standard pickups round slightly hotter. Suitable for any Strat.

Hi Denny, I put a set of tex mex in a cheap Eart strat & it made a real difference. As you have demonstrated here they do sound great with gain too.. i tend to experiment a lot with pickup height too as I’ve found this affects tone. May I ask how far from the stings you prefer them?
Many thanks for your great video here
    Phil

I'm glad the Tex-Mex worked out for you, I actually have mine a bit father away than Fender specs by several mm's and experimented with even father away they worked okay as well
