I remember when i started graphic design 10 years ago, 3D was a nightmare to learn as a GD student. You needed a very expensive computer and a unaffordable licence. Now we have this running trough a single browser and a supercharged version of Blender 3.1 that kills everything. What a time to live in.
It's AWESOME to create web experience with an online tool who simplify this... if you have few experience with 3D, you can easily play... Really appreciate your effort to demonstrate the future of this tool !!!!
Thank you so much for sharing a deep dive into the basics of Spline! Spline still doesn't have proper tutorials on their UA-cam page to cover the basics. This video was exactly what I was looking for! Cheers 😊
I mean, we love us some C4D, but we're super excited to see what the community can create with this program. And the price tag removes any risk to first time users.
@@schoolofmotion The death of cinema 4d and others is near haha, who the hell will want to work with them if you can do the same for free and without purchasing expensive computer?
Super helpful tutorial and functions explained in a really understandable way! I have some earlier 3D experience from using 3ds Max, and although Spline is basic in comparison, I feel Spline is still super competent and makes 3D very accessible. At least that's the case for me who haven't been using any 3D software in a while. Speaking of accessibility, I think the Spline people has done a great job on how to use the software and how to control things, and the depth of control you get so easily. And the fact that it's browser based is amazing, besides offering it for free!
Thanks for watching, David! And I totally agree - the Spline team is definitely making things in a way that is super accessible and theyre very responsive on their Discord too!
Great tutorial!! This is super exciting. Fable is also an interesting web-based mograph tool I’ve been checking out. I love how accessible Spline feels, can’t wait to give it a shot!
Not heard of Fable but thanks for making me aware! There's also another Figma-compatible app called Vectary that looks super interesting too! Gonna see more of these popping up all the time!
Wow, great stuff! I'm just learning Blender and there a lot of things (in my eyes) are made more cumbersome and less user friendly than in Spline. For the future it is certainly important to be at home in several programs and Spline, as well as Vectary seem a useful addition to the interaction with the web.
That's exactly how I felt when I first opened the app. Like this is a major advancement for the industry. Great tut EJ! One question - does Spline support FBX files with animations built into them? I've done some testing and I can't get it to work. Like if your robot were animated in C4D, could you bring that into Spline with the animation already completed?
I just love the way spline renders the objects, the colors pops nicely. What should I do to achieve the same look in blender? maybe it can be achieved using a shader? thanks!
As of right now the animation capabilities are limited but I hope Spline adds in more of that kind of functionality - particle sims are already in browser right now so that totally makes sense!
Hi, good video 👍 One question: both animations and interactions can be exported?? and how can I control these interactions from the website?? 🤔 Could You help me..? I would appreciate your answer
my computer turns off because the program is so heavy, even entering the web page the computer heats up. What devices are supported for this software? I would love to design with Spline
im trying to export from blender to spline but the materials are not appearing , the 3d model is the only thing that is appearing without any detail do you have an idea why this is happening and how can I fix it ?
i hate the name of this program... spline is already a function across 3d programs, this makes it so confusing to find tutorials or more information about this specific product! thanks for this video!
Amen, I felt similarly when Google's music app was called Play. What an idiotic name for it all. There's zero chance of finding actual help for issues with it when name is so common.
I have models in Blender, I export the materials thats been applied in Blender, but I can't seem to import in the materials that apply to my model, so my models look a little naff when imported.

Hey EJ, great overview video! The software has come a long way from its original iteration. Question, does spline save the 3d webpage data locally on my end or in their servers? Im wondering if there's a way to host the file on a dedicated server...
How do you decrease subdivisions when the slider shows 0? (The Spline website doesn't have a FAQ or support feature, so I apologize for relying on you for this query.)
What's the level of browser support for this? Eg: What percentage of end users (given all the browsers used on phones, tablets and desktop) will have a problem displaying this?
You can check out the requirements here, but it seems like you'll want to have recent browsers as the 3D capability is new. But that being said, it's less to keep track of than a full blown 3D app as far as drivers, gfx cards, processors..docs.spline.design/1b9c41c7c88b4ef68042471c08f17b18

I'm really glad to study 3d at this time and also I want to learn extended reality and the opportunities with those two are huge

I tried this with a Mixamo .fbx and it just brought the model in locked into a T pose.

hi can you import a spline file in AE ?
As of right now there's no easy way to export out a 3D file from spline - BUT you can render out a still or an animation that you can then use in AE.

You can't decrease the polygon count from your base mesh, you can only increase from there.
