So I put the new Apple ProRAW pf the brand new iPhone 13pro into test vs a 6000 $ DSLR the Canon 5d M 3. This is not a detailed tech comparison, but a fun one.
I think with this fast moving technology we are eventually going to have to worry about all this money we have spent on our Pro Gear :)
Because even now the results of what a phone in your pocket can do is pretty darn impressive.
Give me your thoughts on this topic, tell me if you were able to guess the right camera.

I'd get really pissed off if I were paying someone hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a picture and they showed up with a phone, lol
I mean... a camera is a camera.
A good photographer can show up with even a kids camera and get nice photos
Good comparison though you missed a huge flaw with the iPhone. The image distortion is totally unacceptable, the model's face was squished then stretched, poles and signs were slanted and warped.
I was thinking that, especially in the first comparison photo with the model on the merry-go-round. But it looks like that iPhone image was shot on the ultra-wide from what I can tell - so the distortion is expected.
I agree. It's easy to see and it looks ridiculous. In general, that's my main gripe with smartphone cameras.
Hey Sean, is it possible for you to consider doing a comparison between the iPhone and a entry level dslr, maybe something like a d3500 with good lenses or something similar in pricing as a whole kit? Would be very interested in seeing a comparison like that!

The problem with making a poll on instagram is that all the people voting don't know anything about dslrs.
That’s the whole point.
Yeesh I was telling my sister who wants to do photography to upgrade to the iphone13 instead of getting a dslr, but after looking at these pics I’ve changed my mind. Not only did I guess correctly each time, the differences were much more jarring than I expected. Iphones are many eons away from taking truly beautiful photos and ones without distorted proportions.

Even with a complete set of lenses, it won't be over 3000$, not even 6000. This is just a lie.
And also, try and compare it with the 5d classic (200$) with a 50 1.8 (100$), that 300$ setup with blow the iphone 13 away
Very interesting comparisons. I want to get the new iPhone 13 Pro for its ProRaw capabilities and this videos helped a lot to make me decide. I shoot photos mostly with my Fuji X-T4 but according to this video, it looks like the iPhone 13 Pro can keep up with a pro camera and it’s good enough to post process those files for social media marketing.

Haha from the 2nd photo onwards, I figured to judge by the color of the sky. The saturated blue ones are done by phones.

The Canon shots are obviously more detailed and defined but the quality and aspect ratio will be very close to the same when uploaded to social media
I think the DSLR did better than the iPhone no surprise there lol but for the shots you can get with a phone it looks good

I found this very interesting. I shoot mostly table top. Products etc. I am experimenting with my iPhone 13 pro. In most cases after Lightroom I cannot tell the difference between my iPhone 13 Pro and my Sony A7ii SLR. And I was always a naysayer about phone photos.. Not any more :-)

5d mark iii is almost 10 years old and costs £6 - 700, why are you saying its a 6000 euro camera?

A more apt comparison would be with a Sony A7III camera or something like that, much more modern camera and still wayy less than 6000 euros. I just hate clickbait.

No, it's better due to numerous factors.
In fact megapixel count only really matters if you're cropping in.
Pretty much all DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras, even beginner $200 ones, are much better than an iphone 14 pro max.
They all have much larger sensors and much more high quality sensors, more accessibility to higher quality lenses, much better low light performance, much better depth of field, much better manual control and RAW, much better focus, among numerous other little things which add up to make a huge difference.
It's easy if you know what to look for! The iphone does the better image straight out the camera (Smartest HDR) the canon has the natural look (more shadows, burned skies and of course better zoom quality) now if you edit them it would be a 1000 times harder to see which is which
Plus, the iPhone has that weird distorted look which is typical of smartphones.
Unless you're not visually impaired then you can easily tell
WHY CAMERA MANUFACTURERS DIDNT UP TO DATE WITH TECHNOLOGY.....if they develope software, the expensive camera hardware is unjustified.....they could make cheaper, better, smaller cameras for us
They do. And the current modern cameras are way better the any smartphone. This 5D is more then 10 years old, also its about 1000 usd, not 6000.

Title is poorly named or deceiving, the Canon 5D mark III is nowhere close to $6000 anymore or even when it was released lol, it's still a professional camera but it's from 2012, I'm not saying the 5D mark iii isn't good, it still is but maybe you should've compared something you can get for 6000 dollars like the GFX 100, or say that you used a Canon 5D mark iii, or maybe compared it to a newer full frame mirrorless available at the time like the Sony A7R4

I think I need to be a photographer because that’s me on the ground taking pictures of friends and family but they wouldn’t donut for me,, that’s because i value my work lol
Nice video, but you forgot to mention one perhaps the most crucial thing about the iPhone. It will become out of date in 5-6 years from now because Apple policy says so. They will stop updating it, so you will be forced to buy a new iPhone unless you wamt to use outdated apps and such. So a very good phone that will wthstand a lot except Apple policy. And the same goes to warranty and service. Apple doesn't really care about you after 12 months AND the battery of the phone will dye pretty soon in comparison to a DSLR camera. Although the camera might seem great, the practicality of iPhone just makes it a nit silly, in my opinion. Therefore, I will stay with my DSLR even if I'm an amateur.
Got a 2018 iphone xs max here, still doing fine with full compability, in fact my iphone 7 (2016) also was doing great until I went up a few months ago.

Okay your Instagram followers are just hating on the iPhone because that Eiffel Tower yoga photo the iPhone CLEARLY looked better. It picked up the details of the tower so much better. And these aren’t side by side photos so lighting clearly was different. The sun wasn’t hitting the tower in the iPhone photo.
If we're talking detail, choosing the phone is a joke.

Phone cameras also stretch objects or people in the images. Just like his image of the model in front of the carousel, his faces is distorted.
Takes portrait photos on a wide 24mm lens and still calls him self a professional🙄
U can clearly see distortion on the iphone's wide angle lens and everything is stretched on the edges hahaha anyway i got all the images right... i put myself as a client who ask for professional photos and my insting was right haha

The fact that the iPhone can't beat the DSLR and Apple's efforts to invest in the camera while ruining the design just look shabby.
Huh? Of course its not going to be a fucking DSLR, are you insane? Its amazing the computational photography is getting so good most people can barely tell the difference and a lot of people even prefer the smoothing out and image processing stuff they do, but its not ever going to be better.
